Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 4/11

Valerie, the P-57 trainers will be on Regis and Kelly tomorrow morning. Maybe you can get an idea of the workout if you catch it.

Hi Ladies,

I think that I pulled my back on Sunday while grocery shopping. It was not bad until Monday when I bent over to wash my feet in the shower and I felt something pull on my right side. It feels worst today because I spent 4 hours in the car when I went to San Diego to pick my DS up. I will not be working out at all until Saturday and only if I feel better.

Valerie, I added a padded seat to the bike and that has helped.

Joan, Congratulations!!

Cathy, you are an Amazon! Your workouts sound very hard.

Garance, any new dishes that you might want to share with us?

Have a great evening.

Josie

so, Josie ....... you rode 100 miles on a bike, danced all night, and pulled a muscle GROCERY SHOPPING? too funny.... a high risk activity??

Garance, I'm here tomorrow and will try to catch Regis & Kelly. Thanks.

Friday!

Good morning,

Today I did Burn Circuit 3 from CLX. My lower back is stiffening up, I sure hope I did not do something nasty to it. Lots of compound moves in this one, squats and lunges doing some upper body move at the same time.

Any plans for the weekend? I have a Christening to go to, and of course the Saturday Agility class with Keegan.

Joan, I bet you are feeling on top of the world right now, All done and a vacation to look forward to. How is your Mom doing? As for the diet, I would probably watch what I ate from now until vacation, no sweets, etc, then splurge some while on vacation, hey you deserve it right?, and get right into it strong when you get back. Hopefully the splurge will not do too much damage.

Garance, work the other night, part of my area is a 24/7 operation, and I hardly get to see the 2nd and 3rd shift people. I went there late to meet with them. The bathroom is going well, we are at a standstill waiting for the shower/tub wall stuff to come in. I have having a corian type wall surround put in the tub/shower area instead of regular tile. I am so tired of grout...well, you know about that! I also had Epoxy stain resistant grout put in the floor tile, I hope it is all it is cracked up to be or I will be really angry. Of course I got a very light grey, it almost looks white.

Valerie, you are amazing with your 35 mile bike rides that are just second nature to you, like a walk in the park! Wow.

Josie, I hope your back is ok for your ride this weekend. How many miles will you cover this weekend?

Hi to Cathy,

Take care,

Deb, if there's anything DH and I learned this past year, it's diversify our activities. we try to make exercise simple. the bike ride is fun, doesn't seem like work. we do it often enough so it's just "regular" activity. I couldn't do 100 miles happily but 35 takes us about 3 hours including the drive to the trail and back. No big deal, and it's fun, not work.
boy, do I hear you on tile and grout. my master bath needs a redo and it won't be grouted tile again. not sure when we'll get to it though, big room it will be $$$$. Dorian sounds like a g0od plan.

I'm happy to say i don't think I'll get sore from the last leg disk. about time! I need to incorporate this into a weekly routine so I don't suffer terminal DOMS from doing it intermittently.

Good morning,

Deb there are compound moves in Brazil Butt Lift that bother my back the same way. For me it was temporary. I hope yours is also.

I read the newest JD Robb book yesterday and The Mayo Clinic Diet book along with a ton of shopping. I think I will try the Mayo Clinic diet . The first two weeks are very strict so will wait until after vacation but will try to follow their portion guidelines.

The diet is pretty simple- 4 or more servings of veg., 3 or more servings of fruit, whole grains, 3oz meat per day and low fat dairy. AND ONLY 1200 CALORIES.

The first two weeks you get no sugar (alcohol is listed as a sugar), no artificial sweetner, and no snacks except fruit or veg.

Forgot to post wo yesterday-20 min treadmill. Today is housemax but will still try to do something.

Joan

Hi Ladies,

I feel much better today, my back is at 80% now and I will be able to do my ride on Sunday. We are doing what they call "A Day on the Ride” It will be like a regular day on the ALC ride to prepare us for the week long adventure. It will be a 65 mile ride.

Valerie, Isn't it ironic that I would pull my back grocery shopping! My co-workers laugh at me because I wear high heels all the time, but when I wear flats I trip over and over again.

Joan, I have one recommendation for a good sea food bar at the Palace Station. They have the best gumbo and other sea food dishes that the chef prepares in front of you. If there is a long line, it is worth the wait. Do not eat inside their restaurant wait for the bar. They also carry a very good selection of wines. My DH and I go there every time we go to Vegas.

Hi Garance, Deb and Cathy!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Ellen Barrett's Barefoot Cardio (48 min.).

Josie and Deb, I hope your backs are feeling okay. Every now and then I will get a twinge, the last time doing Cardio Barre, but back problems are rare for me. I will be going to a memorial service on Sunday, but no other plans. Paper-grading again. Does not look like a very nice weekend, weather-wise.

Josie, I have been doing gratin recipes from Ina Garten's Barefoot in Paris book. Really yummy. I also did her bearnaise sauce to go with steak and her caramelized shallots. The desserts in this one look soooooo good, but I don't do desserts for just the two of us. Tonight I am doing a Lidia recipe--pork chops capriccio--with an arugula, red onion, and kumato salad with mozzarella balls.

Valerie, even if you missed the P-57 workout on Live with Regis and Kelly, they have a clip of it on their website that you can look at it any time.

Good luck on the Mayo diet, Joan. Sounds like a plan.

Hi to Cathy!

Caught the p-57 on regis & kelly. (geez, what a worthless TVshow !) Kelly is the best advertisement, she looks really in shape, but the program as shown was a kind of disorganized looking mess.
Garance, is the program itself more organized? Cathe's stuff is so professional and streamlined. guess I'm not sold yet.

Valerie I think you should look at www.physique57.com to see clip for a better idea. I don't do the upper body with this one. You have to ff if you want to skip an exercise because they don't have the chaptering Cathe does. It's the second video at the bottom that shows wo at about 58sec.

Garance I think you're right about Mayo diet. It's not the diet but having a plan. I took my mother out for lunch since she won't be getting out for awhile. We went to a buffet where I don't really like the food. They did have wonderful fruit and I ate an orange, cauliflower, broccoli, strawberries, grapes and pineapple and dessert:eek:. There was raspberry jam on the danish does that count as fruit?

BBL with wo.

Saturday

Good morning,

A rest day today, although I had one Thursday too. Keegan's agility class this morning and HouseMax, the usual. My cousin and I may make a trip to Sephora this afternoon, she needs something and I want to claim my birthday gift.

Valerie, I have the P-57 30 minute DVD, it is organized, better than what you would see on R&K TV show. I agree with Garance, go to the actual site and watch the clips there. Much better. I got the 30 minute one on Ebay, glad I did not buy the whole set, not really for me. Very hard to do and I guess I frustrate easily, kind of like I am with Cathe's step workouts, I don't do those either, although the P-57 is not the same kind of frustration. It is not dancie or anything like that.

Joan, the Mayo clinic dies sounds similar to South Beach, with the first 2 weeks being very strict. I like the one I am following because there wasn't that first 2 weeks where you could not even have a piece of fruit. This one is strict in other ways though, that a lot of people would not like, eg the "no wheat" part. Plus they do not really push the calorie counting part. LOL about the jam on the danish...

Josie, glad you are doing better, those grocery shopping injuries can be dangerous! Just kidding, :D

Garance, those dishes you cook amaze me!

Later....

Good morning,

I forgot to come back and post wo-50 min on treadmill and 16 min doing step with wii. I was busy downloading the shock cardio. It's probably only the travel fit I will ever use but they are free.

This afternoon we will go over to see Luke and Elliot. It's been a week since I've seen them. First I was too busy and yesterday dil had sister over.

I want to start planning meals for after vacation. Since I have Cathe's nutrition site I may as well use it.

I've decided to hold off on new workouts and review what I already have. I have butts & guts, kick max, GS legs, boot camp, and a few others I haven't used much lately. plus all the leg workouts from STS. Sometimes I just want something "new" but DH is getting cranky about any more new stuff and I don't want to promote an argument. the last plyo legs I got minimal soreness so I may repeat these. It's a good combo of cardio and weights that gives me a break from the treadmill, and with modifications, I liked them.

I haven't used our elliptical but DH has. He went thru problems with hip/lower back last fall, due to an overuse injury from too much treadmill and a built-in postural issue. He suddenly could barely walk and after a orthopedic and PT eval it seemed he has a very dominant side and doing the same thing over and over was causing a serious imbalance. I guess we all go thru different cycles to stave off boredom with the "same old-same old" but since then we've both been trying to change things often.

I get annoyed easily if I don't like instructors. kelly ripa is a great advertisement I didn't feel too interested in what I saw. I looked at the other web address, thanks for putting that up for me. maybe a present DH can get me in the future.

Garance, with Ina's recipes you will need to keep up signifcant workouts! Her stuff is good but rich. I usually modify the fat level way down. Her servings sizes always seem pretty large to me too. I don't do desserts much either, too complicated to size things down for 2. If I can freeze it, then maybe. Strawberries (local) will be along soon, love them.

LOL! josie, that is too funny. your rode a bike 100 miles and you think i'm an amazon?????????????????????

well, what i thought was a migraine the ohter day was something else. not really sure what happened. but, i woke up wed. w/ a very bad pain in the right side of my forehead, and then during the day it progressed down into my neck, so for 3 days i was in major pain. went to the chiropractor on fri., didn't help much. but, my dr. sent me some celebrex and that helped alot. still a little stiff in the neck, but not in the pain i was in.
