Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 4/10

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did double Dancetonic (60 min.).

Deb, yes, they recommend the shot over 60. According to my Dr. 30 % of older people get the shingles, and in some, not all cases, it can really be debilitating (post herpetic neuralgia). It's a live virus, so you should stay away from people who have never had chicken pox, especially children, because you might actually give it to them. It's also only about 50 % effective--you can still get the shingles even if you get the shot, although it is apparently less painful if you have been vaccinated. I think I will be going ahead with it after I talk to my ins. co. It's not covered by Medicare, so there is no virtue in waiting. One of the reasons I want to get it is that I've been watching my FIL suffer from shingles. The cost of the vaccine is $222 here.

Going to a fiction reading from one of my colleagues (Jim Shepard has a new book), followed by a reception tonight. DH also wants to go out on Sunday night because the chef at Mezze's has some pork dishes from one of his heritage pigs.

Same with me Valerie--DH ate all 4 boxes of gs cookies.

Have not looked at my KCMs yet, but I will this weekend.

Good point Lynda, I forgot it's transmissible to children.

Shingles was miserable! I wasn't that "sick" but I couldn't stand clothing over where the rash erupted. thinking of putting on panty hose was unbearable. it lasted about 2 weeks and disappeared but I do NOT want to repeat the experience. especially since it could be much worse. I remember being VERY sick with chicken pox too.

actually some sun today, but cold. all plants are weeks behind normal for the year.

Happy Weekend!

Nothing much doing here, except the usual HouseMax and agility class. Easter only a week away, so I need to organize for the brunch I am having for my family.

Garance, hope to start a rotation using the new KCM's. I was thinking of doing the upper split, lower split, the Kickboxing twice and treadmill twice. We'll see how it goes.

Valerie, with running 2 miles, biking and all the riding you do outside, how can you say you are lax on cardio?

Hi to Josie, Cathy & Joan,

Have a great weekend all!

Yoga in the am, but it's yin yoga and not strenuous like the other class I take.

Did disk 14, legs yesterday. It's all standing work in tri sets. none of the fussy floor work that I don't care much for. and as usual, my butt is talking to me this morning. I KNOW I can't go 2 weeks without getting sore but I did it anyway. Deb, I need a little picture of me kicking myself to stick in here. I even increased the weight from the previous run, knowing I'd get sore regardless so what the heck. I'm going to push the weight on the leg disks in meso 2. I know I can do more except for a couple moves where more weight would imbalance me, like paper plate moves. I use 8 lbs and I will stick with that. especially for squats and lunges I am going up.

I am trying to lose weight and I can't eat much less so need more cardio to get some burn off. I'm back to getting hungry in the middle of the night so that's a good sign. I used to do cardio on days I did upper body workouts but haven't been doing it as often. in spring we get hiking, skiing, or cycling days where we do 4+ hours at least 2 days a week. this spring the weather has been so pi$$y we haven't had many of those days. so until that time, I'll add in low level cardio, treadmill or elliptical to pick up a couple hours. my version of 10,000 steps a day.
