Morning all,

I did a KCM total body weight workout earlier.

Keegan's chicken jerky is in the oven, also making his regular daily boiled chicken. I swear I cook more for that dog than for John and me.

Rainy and dreary here today, what a change from last week.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend. :D

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did Turbo Barre (74 min.).

Went to see The Hunger Games yesterday. I really enjoyed it as an adaptation of the book. Jennifer Lawrence is very convincing as Katniss. Not as enamoured of the actor playing Peeta, though.

Tonight we are doing the Comfort Sunday meal: First course: steamed pork buns from East Mountain Farm pork belly, with pickled shiitake mushrooms, hoisin and sriracha; Second course: Ramen noodle bowl with East Mountain Farm roast pork shoulder, housemade noodles, maitake mushrooms and wild vegetables; Dessert: lemongrass panna cotta with pomegranate gelee. As you might guess, that's dh's farm and his pork.

Deb, it's rainy and dreary here as well, but still pretty mild--in the 50s. We do need the rain, though. Is all that cooking for Keegan because of his medical issues?

Three more papers to grade and then I'm done until the next set comes rolling in after spring break.

I'm still alive. I couldn't figure out why I was so much busier this year when I haven't taken many new clients. I finally realized it is all the extra time I am spending wrapping my mother's legs and giving her the treatments. I miss exercising and posting.

Good morning,

I did a Cardio Coach this morning, and my HRM watch crapped out on me. It kept showing a 00.0 rating, so I guess I need a new battery. This one lasted 2 years so I can't complain.

Garance, I am tempted to read those books, even though I am not a fan of science fiction at all. I guess you have read the series? What did you think?

Joan, good to see you here. Is the "treatment" a temporary thing or will this have to be done all the time now? How are your eyes?

Work, then to the watch store, and the dog's class tonight. A late night for us. Working today and tomorrow then 5 glorius days off! I need a break. I hope we don't get the freeze that they are predicting.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did After Burn (54 min.).

Deb, I would not really classify The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay as science fiction. It is a futuristic world, but also a satire on reality TV and ultimately an anti-war series. Collins says she was inspired by the classical myth about the Minotaur and the annual sacrifice of seven maidens and seven young men to its cannibalistic hunger. Katniss and Peeta are selected by lottery (actually Katniss volunteers to save her sister) to represent their district as required tributes in the annual games, where the object is simply to survive in battle. It's watched on TV by the citizens of Panem. The districts that were rebellious in a war are the ones who must offer tributes. The heroine is really quite moving and feisty. I read them at the recommendation of one of my women students who said she was disgusted by the heroine of the Twilight series (which I have not read and won't), who was passive, weak, in constant need of being saved. They are really quite compelling books.

Hi Joan--glad to hear you are still among the living! Tax season again. How is your mom?

Good morning,

A late night last night because of class, so no workout today. I'm not sure if any of you have gone over to the Open forume. there is a thread about Sean O'Malley passing away. He is the Cardio Coach, the one that did the MP3 workouts that I have. So sad, he was only 40 years old. No info yet on what happened.

Garance, thanks for the info on the series. It's not really something I would get into.

Is Valerie away?

Well we had our "hard freeze" last night. It didn't seem too cold this morning, just low 30's. We'll see how the flowers that have bloomed make out.

Off for the next 3 days! Can't wait.

Take care,

We are still having beautiful weather. My snapdragons that survived the winter are in full bloom along with the lilacs.

I have started using a fitbit. You wear it on your waist band and it works like my gowearfit armband (bodybugg) It is so much more comfortable and no one comments on it like the big armband. I have gotten a few more stairclimbs and walking in place in front of the copier because of it. (There is also no monthly charge with this)

Deb my mother is fine just the swollen legs. There is no cure I will just have to wrap them forever. The contraption is kind of like fishing waders hooked to a pump. It covers one leg and over her waist. You turn on the pump and it massages the leg to get rid of the fluid. It takes an hour per leg but there is the time before to take off the wraps and get her into it and then afterwards to rewrap her legs. She is not walking into the kitchen anymore because of the wraps so I have to make and get her all of her meals/snacks. They really want her to do both legs every day but you have to wait 2 hrs min. and 6 hours is better so her heart is not overloaded with fluid.

Hi Deb, Josie, and Joan--

This morning I did LIC (52 min.).

Yes, Deb, I think Valerie said she was going to Utah on a vacation of some kind. It's beautiful country. Wow, 40 is really, really young. How nice for you to have a few days off. I thought I would be having some relaxation time as well, but the three male editors of this collection of essays on Hughes have all these editing things they want me to do, one of which is to cut my piece in half to 8000 words (about 32 pages), which I am happy to do, but they want it asap!

Joan, that does sound like a very time-consuming job. You are a wonderful caretaker for your mom.

Hi Ladies,

The weekend ride on Saturday was great. The Sunday ride was cancelled because of rain so it went spinning instead. My DD and I did a 30 minute weight workout yesterday that hit the whole body, so I’m getting a little sore today. I will be going to my spin class tonight.

I will be on vacation all next week and I’m also off on Friday. I will be picking up my grandkids on Sunday. Can’t wait!

Deb, I did not hear about the CC death. Wow 40 is so young and he looked so fit!

Garance, I feel for you! Request like that happen to us all the time.

Joan, your DM is lucky to have you for a daughter. I would do the same for my mom.

Hi Cathy and Valerie!

Josie

Good morning,

Off for the rest of the week. Yay! We have a meeting this morning with our financial guy at 8:00, then I hope to get some things done around here. I have to put a list together.

Joan, your mother is very lucky to have you. You're a great daughter.

Garance, who are these 3 male editors? This is something you had to write?

Josie, Lucky you on vacation, it sounds like you will be having a great time with the G'kids. Even Cathe started a thread about Sean on the Open forum with a great picture of the two of them. People are still reeling about it. No word on what happened. Even a thread to find someone to adopt his cats. Apparently no one in his family can take them.

Did I mention that we have been testing Keegan's urine ourselves? We got the strips and have been doing it since last weekend.

So far for a couple of mornings, first "catch" has been 5.75, 7.00 and today was 6.00. Optimal for dogs is 6.5-7.00. I know, I'm obsessed. But I want to catch if he starts to swing too much on the low side, that could be an infection or crystals can start to form.

Will check in a little later. It's supposed to get back into the 60's today...yay!

Hi Deb, Josie, and Joan--

This morning I did the Upper body split on Total Body Trisets (56 min.).

Deb, the editors are three British men and literary critics. I met them at the Hughes conference in Cambridge 18 mos ago (wow, time flies!). Two of them are long standing Hughes scholars, while I am definitely a Plath scholar who has an interest in Hughes as a byproduct. I think they are a bit leery of me because of the antagonism between those who are Plath partisans and those who are Hughes partisans. I am wondering if they want my piece just because it will make the volume look less partisan to have at least one female critic in the mix. Anyway.....

Sheesh--everyone's going on vacation, and my spring break is almost over and now I have a deadline! Oh well, enjoy yourself Josie; I know you love those grandkids. Have any special plans with them? I saw lots of little kids at the Boston science museum, and they were absolutely crazy about the gekko exhibit and the room with the butterflies.

Hi to Joan!

Hi Ladies,

I did not workout last night. I was supposed to go spinning, but got lazy. I will be doing my weight training tonight at home and if I have some energy left I will go spinning.

Garance, I plan to take the kids to the Kidspace Museum in Pasadena. It is a hands on museum where they can touch everything and learn how everyday things work. I also plan on taking them to Palm Springs to visit my DB and play in the pool for a couple of days. You can check out the what the museum has to offer at kidspacemuseum.org.

Deb, I’m glad that Keegan is doing fine.

Hi to Joan and Cathy!

Josie

Good morning,

I will be meeting my friend for either breakfast or lunch today, we haven't decided yet. Still need to do some other things on my list while I have the time off, it's just so easy to find something better to do.

Garance, I'm not going anywhere either, just here for now.

Josie, have fun!

Easter is coming up soon, have to make sure I know what I am having for the family brunch, etc. I have to buy some candy, jelly beans, etc. I hate having that stuff in the house.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, and Joan--

This morning I did Cardio Supersets (41 min.).

What happened to our beautiful spring/summer weather? Cold and rather grim here today. Palm Springs sounds heavenly, Josie! I will check out that museum.

Hey, Deb, not to nag or anything, but what happened to your five times per week exercise plan? Yes, I'm glad that I can just turn away from all the candy displays at this time of year. Peeps, chocolate bunnies and eggs, jelly beans--NO! I remember the Easter baskets for my boys. I did enjoy coloring eggs, though. When I came home yesterday, we had a whole flock of real peeps--live chicks, mere fluff balls. Max loves chicks and gets so excited watching them.

Back to re-working my paper. Blech!

Hi Ladies,

Today is my Friday since we have a day off tomorrow. It is Cesar Chavez day! I will be spinning today and resting and carbo- loading tomorrow in preparation for my 100 mile ride on Saturday.

My grandkids are coming on Friday and their DD will be here too. They are going to be so happy to see him. They don’t know that he is going to be here ;)

I will not be making any Easter baskets here. My Peanut #1 has so many cavities and is at the dentist right now. I will also be taking them home on Friday the 6th 

Have a great weekend!

Josie

Good morning,

Hope to get a workout in this morning, ( thanks for the "nag" Garance!, I need it).

Woke up to a pukey dog today, lovely. Later I am supposed to go to the Outlet mall with my cousin to look for new shoes. Also have to stop by the watch store to get the battery replaced in my HRM watch.

Garance, how do you turn away from the candy? Just don't like it? Plans for the weekend?

Josie, have fun with the GK's!

We cleaned the upstairs freezer yesterday, and I cleaned out a dresser/chest I have. It felt good to toss a lot of stuff, and put some in the donation bag. ( the clothes not the stuff from the freezer. LOL).

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, and Joan--

This morning I did AT (56 min.).

Josie, I will be thinking about you and your 100 mile (yikes!) ride tomorrow as I am getting some cap highlights. I would say "have fun," but in the words of one of my favorite characters from The Princess Bride, "Inconceivable!"

Deb, for me the problem with candy is that it's too hard to stop, so it's best not to have one piece. When I indulge, it's usually ice cream, and even so, I get those 100 calorie Klondike bars. DH, on the other hand, has a big bowl of ice cream every night.

We will probably do Comfort Sunday again, and this is probably the last one of the year, since the restaurant business picks up around this time for Easter, Mother's Day, graduation, alumni weekend, summer tourist season, etc.

Have a great weekend!

Good morning,

Agility class this morning and more HouseMax. I shredded a lot of old VISA bill statements yesterday, next are the old checking account statements. Made lots of room for more filing. I hate paper.

I went to the Outlet Mall yesterday and bought 2 pair of shoes and 3 tops. The sales were amazing. Loft was the best.

Garance, I did a 40 minute treadmill circuit workout yesterday, I was happy, but am sore today, and not in a good way. We stopped at one of the strip plaza's where they open up a candy store temporarily for Easter...the candy we usually buy is up to $14 a pound. Are they kidding? we didn't buy it. I would be the one eating most of it anyway. We'll end up getting some, but not that particular brand. I like those Klondike bars too. My Dad used to have a huge bowl of ice cream every night, and he was thin as a rail. Why didn't I get those genes?

Off to do more shredding, or something else on my list. Do you make lists of "to do's" ?

take care,
