Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 3/20

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, I just didn't feel like it. That makes 2 days now, I need to get back on track. I think it's the rain, it's been raining for 2 days, still pouring right now, and its so depressing, All I want to do is get a book , go on the couch under a throw and read. Of course with a couple of dogs lying on top of me.

Lynda, Hope all goes well with your DH today, Mine is next month...not looking forward to the prep.. I like the body bar to use in place of a barbell....no weights to change, and it has soft sponge like padding. I have a 15 pound one, just want a little heavier. The Live workout, Barbell Upper Body is a really good one, I use my 15 pound body bar, a 20 pound one that I always keep preset with 20, and my Troy Lite one with 30 that I always keep preset too, The 15 is getting too easy and 20 is too much, ....for shoulder presses etc. I can start some of the exercises with the 20 but have to drop down to the 15, The 18 would be perfect.

Lori, glad you are feeling better! that sounds like a great plan with your DH ( name?)...working out with you. Will he do the Live workouts? wow that was some calorie burn! I need to look at the one you did, it sounds good. No, my cousin is moving a distance away...I am sad about that. Right now we live about 5 minutes away from each other, and that is so nice. We constantly go back and forth...it will take some getting used to. Her new house is about 25 minutes away. :( All those "emergency" calls to let her dogs out because she can't get home, or her coming here to feed Fritz when I'm away, are going to be a big change.

Diane Sue, how nice that will be for your granddaughter! That is great that she got you to start painting again. I am sure she will love whatever you do. Funny, no inspections of cars there? And you have to go to the DMV for you license all the time or only if you let it expire? We get a packet in the mail and just renew each time that way. Maybe I should roll out my hip? I guess I would like to see it done first, maybe check out Youtube. I am not that creative to have the kids make their own favors! That's sounds like fun though.

Hi to Josie, Valerie, and Judy,

Take care,

Good Morning Everyone,

Yesterday I did a Spinervals Fitness Series workout, 75 minutes, 19 miles and 569 calories. My heart rate was in the 140-160 range for most of it.

This is one of the 3 hour Spinervals:

http://www.spinervals.com/products/item142.cfm

I've never done a triathlon but I did long distance cycling and a few marathons and half marathons when I was younger. I've always loved endurance training.

Deb-It's been raining here since yesterday and it is depressing. It's hard to get motivated in this weather. There is a winter storm warning north of here. Northern and Mid Michigan is getting ice, snow & sleet. What a way to start Spring :( I'm looking forward to getting the body bar and trying out the Live Barbell Upper Body workout. We don't have car inspections in Michigan. We can do the annual renewals online.

Lynda-I hope your DH's colonoscopy goes well.

Lori-That's great that your DH wants to workout with you! I always wear my heart rate monitor too, I'd be lost without one. I love all the data.

Diane Sue-your DMV sounds like ours. I am so glad we can do most everything online here. I hated standing in line there. I remember when I first moved here and I had to go there to get my license transferred. I was there for hours, most of it waiting in line.

Hi to Valerie & Josie!

Judy

Good morning all...I'm back. did the last bit of the drive yesterday, from southern OR. went to a state park in OR thinking we'd mt bike there. it's not far from Portland and this week is spring break there. surprise surprise. the park was packed with families to the point we didn't think we could stand it. it also was going to rain. we were getting burned out anyway. so we got back on the highway and drove home. traffic is awful here. got home around 5:30 and unloaded and made dinner. Tired but not ridiculous. we will recover today, get mail, and go do something locally Friday when things dry out.
one other thing we did was watch Spotlight. Our laptop ran out of charge so we saw it in two segments and also listened to a podcast with the director and one of the "real" reporters involved in the story. an outstanding movie..no wonder it won best picture. I bought a copy just before we left as I was sure it would be good. this is not a 'popcorn" movie you can watch paying halfway attention. we'd planned to watch it at SIL's house but they talk thru everything so decided not to waste the time. I lose words with the Boston accent so I turned on the subtitles. Interestingly enough, we had a series of stories about a local priest and a $9.1million settlement paid out due to molesting children in 70's. it has a lot more impact when you follow the story and see where the priest was transferred around the local area, by the cardinal to avoid detection.... I read a story that detailed the settlements. scaled according to the exact abuse that took place. so "fondling over clothing" is worth an amount, with increasing dollar for oral sex, on up to actual intercourse.
also listened to several podcasts while driving. Alec Baldwin is an incredibly bright and well prepared interviewer. we dropped expensive satellite radio and are using the ipod for entertainment.

We get our licenses renewed by mail. I had to go into the DMV for a vision check last year probably due to my age but it's like so many things ... the lines are gone because of convenient online / mail renewals. no vehicle inspections here. what do they inspect for?

Lynda hope DH's procedure went well. I hate, hate the prep. I think they will have to trap me in a net before I do another.

Judy explain to me( just kidding) how you can sit on a spin bike seat for 3 hours!! I can do an hour but not longer.

Today was Cathe Live Step Express w/ blasts, 41 minutes, 321 calories, HR 133 avg/ 159 max. I wanted an hour so I Get Steppin (I think that is the name, it is the last step Cathe has done) starting after the first 6 minutes to skip the warm up and stopping after the 2nd combo and doing the stretch, 24 minutes, 172 calories, HR 135 avg/a45 max) Total time 65 minutes, 493 calories.

Deb, I always feel a little like rainy days and cold days are days to cuddle under a blanket and read. I understand, maybe the rest was just good for you. Funny about the dogs lying on you :) I think that there is no inspection here because we do not have the smog etc.. problem. No , I only have to go to the DMV if my license expires. To renew we go to a local tag agency to do it. That is easy in smaller towns. But, where we are one is down the street and if I go the right time there is usually only 10 or so ahead of me. We go to the tag agency to renew our car tag too and they give us a sticker each year. It depends on the tag agency whether or not they send out a reminder or not.

Judy, that Spinervals looks interesting. So you get to see scenery and the hills you are climbing ? I used to have a video workout called Red Rock that I did with my treadmill that had the scenery you would go through and the hills. It was through the program that hooked to the treadmill if I wanted to and it literally sped it up and slowed it down etc. for me. I had a Nautiless treadmill. I sold it to my daughter so her and her husband could run on them together since they already had one. We were downsizing and I have my Tread Climber. When you go to our DMV you take a number and wait forever till they call you. Then they fill out paperwork and you sit some more till they call you back to take a picture. then they make you wait for the license. It is crazy and seems so unorganized.

Valerie, I think that the inspections are for emissions and stuff that go into the air. Exhaust can be written up and fined in some places. I wish we could just get our renewal by mail. They take a new picture and check the address for any renewals and you get a whole new license. It sounds like you had a really nice trip. Nice job finding travel entertainment. I have purchased Satellite radio. We used to try to find campgrounds with internet. We always took movies with us. Of course now we can download. I recently bought my husband portable travel dvd player that holds a charge for 5 hours. I generally read when we travel. Sometimes I read out loud and my husband listens. I download magazines etc..

diane sue, I do the same. I get a newspaper/magazine and read something to us. podcasts are newer for us but I'm impressed, they work well. so many things to pick from. we also have music on a playlist . I liked Sirius sat radio as it worked in remote places, but they pushed up the rates again to $150 a year, so we decided to drop it and try something else. we can always sign back up if we miss it. I Iike music but my knowledge isn't "deep" .... I enjoy old, oddball songs that Sirius came up with, along with the standard well known oldies.
if there is a decent phone signal, I use the phone as a mobile hotspot and so we can do email, check weather, etc. need to watch data usage though, so it's fine for some things but not for movies. we use an old laptop for watching movies. it only lasts for about 2 hours. we used to use it for other things but have replaced it with the ipad. a player that lasts 5 hours would be great. we try to stay in less developed camping areas that are quiet and they seldom have internet service.

I had my last DL for 15 years. used to be renewed more often but I think it's a money saver for the state. we do renewals by mail, same as for car license tabs. I remember emission tests but it's been a LONG time since I needed to do one.

Good evening ladies!

At lunch was SB Arms. The ladies like this one a lot. I do too so it is a win win. This evening I could not wait to come home and do the Live PHAT 2 workout and I loved it better than the first. I liked the first but this one had more of a fun factor for me and it moved right along.

Judy...yes endurance training is your thing for sure! Great ride today. You amaze me! Diane Sue has motivated me to wear my HR monitor. So would you use the Body Bar in place of a Barbell or alternate usinging them depending on the exercise? I never thought of getting one.

Deb...thanks for the link on the body bar. The weather always affects my workouts. You'll be back at it! I just read your post about using the body bar. Now I get it. I will save my pennies...getting a couple would add up. Good price for 18lbs though. My husband's name is Bob and he will never do a Cathe workout. He just does his own thing. Recumbent bike or eliptical then some weights. I would love for him to do a Cathe weight workout but he won't. I am hoping some day.

Valerie...Welcome back! Seems like you have been gone a while. I am sure because I was so sick it feels that way. Sounds like a good trip. Great idea to use Ipod as entertainment. Very smart and cheaper! We have not seen Spotlight but hoping to this weekend. Funny about having a hard time understanding the Boston accent. When I am around people not from this area I need to remember to talk slower otherwise they have no idea what I am saying!

Diane Sue...years ago when I first found Cathe I was doing step and loved it. Now not so much. My least favorite workout. Unless it is used for blasts with athletic moves. We must have the same portable DVD player because ours holds a 5 hour charge and very few do! We hardly use it now a days anyways. We download everything now. When we travel we always make sure our ipads have plenty of movies and magazines!

Lynda...hope all went well for your DH today.

Hi to Josie!!

Good morning,

Yesterday we did all the shopping for Easter brunch. Raining again here....it rained all night. So depressing. The sun came out for a bit yesterday and it was bright and beautiful. You could not tell it was only 30+ degrees, it looked like spring.

Judy, great spin workout! 3 hours is a long time! I still can't get over not having car inspections. Here they don't inspect for emissions, it's all about the safety of the car itself. You can't even have a tiny crack in your windshield, and tires have to have a certain amount of tread or the car will not pass inspection. The Body Bar came yesterday, wow it seems a lot heavier than 18 pounds.

Valerie, welcome back! Sounds like you had a nice trip. John got Sirius radio for a free trial in the nw car, he sort of likes some of it, but they keep calling and calling to get him to sign up for additional time. The last time they called I told them to stop, it was bordering on harassment. He is not renewing, says it is not worth the $$$ since he doesn't use it enough. I can see how it would be good on long trips like you do.

Diane Sue, great workouts. Where does the sticker go that you get for your license? We have an inspection sticker that has the year and month on it that goes on the car's windshield. They are a different color for each year. That's how the guy knew mine was overdue, when he saw it from across the street. Our drivers license is good for 8 years. I have a portable DVD player that has a 5 hour battery, I bet we all have the same one. LOL.

Lori, good that the Ladies are back on track. LOL. Yes the body bar is just a barbell, with padding and no plates. I like it for front raises, overhead presses, basically anything you would do with a barbell. Surprised Bob will not try a Cathe workout, even STS? Those seem more like what a man would get into. I like it when Al is in the Live workouts. He is such a "regular" guy, if that makes sense.

Hi to Lynda & Josie,

John was going to go fishing today, but with the rain he probably won't. I want to set up the table, server etc for Sunday. I like to do this in advance. I need to bring up 11 chairs from the basement etc.

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

I wasn't very motivated to workout yesterday morning and I couldn't decide what workout to do. I ended up doing
KCM Plateau Buster, Combined Premix. I did a few of the moves twice and did her extended stretch for a total of 77
minutes and 425 calories. The only move I had to modify was the one that looks like a deadlift then an upright row. I
just did the upright row.

Valerie-that's a good idea to use your ipod instead of sirius. I switched to the talk only sirius thinking I could listen to
music on dvds but I could use an ipod for podcasts instead of listening to talk radio. I'll have to look into that.
For the 3 hour spin sessions, I usually take a short break and get off the bike at least once during the ride. I also have a little table next to the bike with extra water and gels if I'm doing one that long.

Diane Sue-for the longer rides I prefer the ones with scenery and that have a destination. The Nautilus treadmill sounds nice. There are some companies doing that for indoor cycling too. Zwift is one but it's not compatible with the bike I have so I can't use it:
http://zwift.com/

Lori-thanks! Your workouts are amazing to me! I'll have to look at the Live PHAT workouts, I haven't tried those yet.
I would use the body bar as an alternate to the barbell. That way I could have the barbell set heavier, 30-35 lbs, and keep
it there without having to take plates off. There is one point in Muscle Endurance where she switches from barbell rows to bicep curls with literally no break and I always have to pause the workout to change weights. Now I can just switch from the barbell to the body bar.

Deb-that's interesting about the car inspections. I think there would be a lot of cars failing inspections if they did them in
Michigan. I'm going to place my order for the body bar today.

Hi to Lynda & Josie!

Judy

I'm glad we don 't have car inspections ... our windshield cracked a couple days after we bought the Outback. it's below the sight line so it just "stays". I got hit by a pebble on the freeway. before I got home, the crack "ran". years ago. our other Subaru is cracked too, and our truck just got a chip. we'd be replacing windshields monthly!
We like Sirius as there is no radio most places we drive, or if there is, it's all commercials. so we had it for our truck. never bothered with it for the car. we use the ipod there if we do a longer drive. I used to like talk radio and the ipod is the closest to that, plus commercial free. I don't think there's any good talk radio anymore. Deb, when we decided to drop Sirius, they pestered us until DH got pretty rude and told them in no uncertain terms to stop calling. they were obnoxious.

well, I sure feel like a wimp..... pausing to change up weights saves my life sometimes! DH and I use the same 2 bars, and he always gets them heavy. He uses STS, and has a favorite disk that he uses over and over. I like Al in the workouts too... he does seem like a nice regular normal guy. I usually set up my bar ahead of time. changing the weight takes me longer than Cathe. I try to keep the floor clear of dumbbells too, so I don't trip over any, and putting them back on the rack is an interruption too. so I pause often. too much junk on the floor in a limited space.

anyway... feeling wimpy. haven't done anything in 3 days. I was so tired yesterday I just could not do a workout. today is back to normal and we will go on a mt bike shortly. I slept a long time and finally feel caught up. Sleeping in all kinds of different places & conditions while traveling wears me down. one night will be fine, and the next I won't sleep much, so I build up a deficit.

Judy still amazes me .... 3 hrs on an indoor bike. even with a few breaks. something about riding outdoors fixes your position and the scenery changes, well, I can't trick myself into doing it with a DVD. I still max out at an hour. just can't sit on a seat any longer, padding or not.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did Live Strong Upper Body with Core (55 min.). This one is tough! 3 supersets for ba, then sh, then ch, then tris, then bis. I tried to do Cathe's weights but ended up going down on the second or third superset. Ends with a nice core workout--standing abs, then floor, and planks. I felt really worked out after this one.

This was the third colonoscopy for DH and in the past, he has not had any trouble with the jug, or bouncing back after the procedure. So he went into this with hubris and ended up really humbled. The jug this time was awful for him, and whatever they gave him for sedation pretty much lasted the rest of the day. In the past, he was a rule breaker and would be off on a tractor haying when he was not supposed to be using any heavy equipment. He had 3 small polyps, but the GE doesn't think they are precancerous. He is feeling back to normal today, but now he knows better not to plan on doing anything after the procedure. I don't think he will do the jug again either. I'm so glad he didn't have anything planned for the rest of his day yesterday and could just conk out.

Deb, settling down with a good book on a rainy day is one of the perks of being retired. Enjoy! I found a new mystery writer I like a lot--Charles Todd. You might like these because the setting is post WWI England, and the characters feel like DA--at least in this first one I am reading: No Shred of Evidence. You will be busy this weekend I am sure with your annual Easter party.

Judy, I don't know how you do such long spin workouts either. Great stamina! It is surprising that Michigan does not have emissions testing for cars, since they are the base for GM, Ford, and Chrysler. We have annual emissions and safety tests and license renewals every 8 years. They always have an eye test before renewal and a new picture.

Valerie, I thought Spotlight was excellent too. It's too bad they don't have an Oscar for an ensemble cast like they do for the Golden Globes, because it was really the cast as a whole rather than single performances that stood out. My other favorite film was The Big Short, and the script for this one was really witty--and strange because how can the housing disaster be funny. Steve Carell was outstanding in this one, along with Christian Bale, as usual giving one of his method acting performances where he just seems to turn into the person he is portraying.

Diane Sue, great workouts as usual. Maybe Oklahoma doesn't want emissions tests because it is a fossil fuel state. I wonder if Texas does?Your Senator Inhofe doesn't believe in global warming. Like Lori, I really loved step workouts and have gradually cooled toward them. My favorite Cathe workout for a long, long time was Rhythmic Step, which has a lot of fun choreography, and in my salad days, I could do the IMax workouts, but I have also lost my affection for all that impact.

Lori, that's great that Bob wants to work out with you. My DH Kim is on his feet all day most days and pitching 40 lb. bales and 100 lb. feed sacks, so he gets a workout just being a farmer. I couldn't do what he does I'm sure.

Have a great holiday weekend everyone!

Lynda thinking the "jug" is Golytely. that's what I get..... the giagantic jug. there are a lot of different preps..... DH has had the Miralax prep since he has a normal colon and it works for him. that's what they gave me the first time, but it was not up to the task. As they do the procedure, they may amp up the sedative drug to keep the patient comfortable.... like when they clip off a polyp or go around a bend. My colon is a twisted mess so I need more sedative to keep me quiet. not a good thing to have the patient twisting all over. I remember a lot about the first procedure at the beginning, but they dosed me heavier because I was unable to stay still. I remember her telling the anesthetist to give me more. whatever......... I am TOAST for most of the day. I sleep for a few hours after I get home, or on the way home and feel like a limp noodle. DH does OK, a bit goofy for the first hour or so after, but then pretty decent. Me, not so much. My colon is such a "torque" they need to really load me up to get through the procedure, and it takes a long time to completely clear. plus there are different drugs used, and not everyone responds the same way. I can remember spotty parts of the day, some clearly and the rest a fog. I have no fm hx and both procedures were benign so I don't think they will talk me into another. He should be fine by tomorrow.

we did a mt bike today, about 90 min. I needed to get to Costco later and traffic was a mess so we did a shorter ride than we planned. still, the ride id as workout.

No workout today. I went to help my daughter out because she was sick today and had one daycare child along with her children there. Her husband had to go in to work and I am the alternate for her with the background check and everything done. Then home has been crazy since we are doing this kitchen remodel work. My son in Law and grandson came over and was helping my husband. We had drywall and sawdust all over the kitchen and floating around. So it was cleaning this evening. Tomorrow I will get ready for the Easter family get together and do some cooking prep. It is late and I am tired. I was up till after midnight last night watching movies with my granddaughter. We watched Mocking Jay part 2. And a whole season of Dark Matters. I stopped at episode 8 out of 13. My husband and her watched all of them. I will get a workout in in the morning.

Valerie, we once used two ipads and the portable dvd player and had battery power for 13 hours of viewing before. My husband and I are different in our likes for music. We did buy a set of 70's hits dvds from Time Life once and listened to them on our vacation. He likes real old stuff like Bing Crosby or Robert Goulet. I like a lot of different stuff. Of late though I tend to choose calming stuff. Some just makes me feel irritable. We both like Harry Connick Jr.. We have went to see him perform.
I added a padded seat cover to my spin bike seat after I rubbed skin off doing Pedal Power once. I would have been in serious agony if I had went longer than that.

Lynda, I go through times where I want to do more of one type of cardio or other. I favor step and kickboxing though. I am not a huge fan of floor cardio stuff but am liking it more than I used to. Maybe it is that the lower impact ones and some of Cathe's choreography makes it more likeable. But, I try not to get hung up on one type of cardio. I am sorry that your husband had a much worse experience with the colonoscopy than he had anticipated.

Judy, that zwift program looks really interesting. My spin bike is just a Schwinn that I got a deal on off of Amazon. Not a real fancy bike. When I got it I wasn't sure if I would like it but I really do. My daughter had given me her recumbent bike and I did not like using it at all and got rid of it. Someone had told me Amazon was having a deal and the Schwinn one was only 87.00. I looked at the same one since and it is way higher. It was nice having it after the knee surgery.

Deb, it is supposed to rain here tomorrow evening and into Sunday. I hope it stops early. They are saying around 1. I am planning on grilling this year for Easter with all of the kitchen work going on. Last year we had ham which would be more traditional here. The sticker goes on the left corner of the license plate and changes color each year. This year they changed it a bit. I had to hunt for the month on it. Generally it was fairly big lettering. We usually cut it a bit with a razor blade because they sometimes get stolen. That way it falls apart if someone tries to remove it.

Lori, the Phat workout sounds good. They remind me of some of the earlier Firm workouts that were upper and lower moves with no rest.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, I think I will start over on Monday.

Judy, for not being motivated you sure did a long and good workout. :). Judy, that is what I do, I have my Troy barbell set at 30 pounds all the time, use it for deadlifts, and sometimes squats if the workout calls for heavy weights. I can't imagine cars without inspections....I guess NY just needs another way to make money.

Valerie, I had the same experience with Sirius, their tele-marketers are rude and relentless. They have not called since I spoke with them the last time. I had to get pretty rude too. I did get those new collars that Cathe has for the Troy barbell that makes switching plates faster, they were worth it. I can understand why you would need a couple of days rest after that trip. Just riding in a car or truck for hours is hard on the body, even if you don't feel it when you are doing it. That's what I have for next time, the Myralax stuff! Is it different in some way from the Golitely?

Lynda, will have to put that upper body workout on my list. Glad Kim;s test was good, What do you mean by "the jug" referring to the colonoscopy? the drink the night before? How can he avoid it next time? Is there an alternative offered? This time they are having me do some pills and a half gallon of something that I have to drink over a few hours. I am sure it's horrid stuff....ugh...I will look up that mystery writer. Thanks! We only have mechanical car inspections here, no emissions as far as I know. I think what Kim does daily can be considered a workout..LOL :).

Diane Sue, I can see why you would need a rest day! That's great that your daughter has you as the alternate. How funny, our sticker goes on the inside of the windshield, lower left on the driver's side. This way they cannot be stolen. We don't change plates ever, unless you just stop driving all together and then you have to turn them in or you are fined. The plates you get are forever, just move from one car to another.

Lori, going to do one of those Phat workouts next week.

Josie, do you have the Peanuts for Easter?

No class today, lots of chores on the list.

Take care,

Good morning ladies!

Last night I did low impact sweat 2 and that was it for the days workout. I am still coughing and blowing my nose if you can believe that so makes it hard to do long cardio workouts yet. This cold is crazy! This morning going to try out Live Boot Camp Blast. Should be able to make it thru this then going to followup later in the day when Bob wants to workout with SB lower sculpting workout (he is not a morning person!) going to start using his name instead of DH!

So a friend of mine gave me Tony Horton's 22 Minute Hard Corps to review and try out. I haven't even looked at it yet but will do so tonight at some point. She is in the Army Reserves and has been for 20 some years. She deploys for a week every few months and is gone for this week so I have them until she comes back. I am curious to try one or two out.

Deb...you'll get right back into it. Surprisingly taking the time off that I did I was able to get right back into the weights. Thought I would have lost a ton of strength but does not seem so. The cardio has been tough but I am sure due to some congestion. Had a three month trial for Sirius when we bought our cars. I never listened even when it was free. Bob liked it but did not want to spend the money. I think you will like the Phat workouts. I liked 2 better than one. The first one uses a barbell so this may interest you.

Judy...funny you were not motivated but still bumped out a 77min workout! Going to save my points for a body bar. Not sure if I should go with 18 or 20 though.

Lynda...I have had only 1 colonoscpy and did the same thing afterwards..rested for the rest of the day. The strong upper body is tough indeed! I have mentioned this before but I am so glad you, Deb, Diane Sue and Judy are doing Live! Valerie and Josie...I know it is a metter of time before you two do! I am almost finished with the 2nd book of The Passage trilogy. When does the 3 come out? I think May. Going to start reading Harry Potter and should get through the first book then will finish up the 3rd passage book before continuing on with the HP books. I am late to the game with HP but have always wanted to read these.

Diane Sue...good your daughter has you to cover. I bet you enjoy it too! Kickboxing/heavy bag is my favorite workouts. I have a heavy bag and use it for pretty much all of Cathe Kickboxing. Easy to use instead of holding handweights. Once in a while I need to modify a bit due to the bag but not often.

Valerie...shopping is always tough before a holiday! Ugh we need to do this too and not looking forward to it. :(. I love your DH uses STS. I am going to show that to my husband! We purchased a really nice dumbbell rack a few years back to help keep the workout floor clear. We are very happy we did so. Keeps things nice and organized for us.

Happy Easter to all! Hi to Josie!

we did a 6 hr hike/snowshoe. I'm whipped!. it was not a lot of elevation gain as it's on a decommissioned road but when the forest service closes a road they pull the culverts and "tank trap" the road. lots of up and down short pitches. it was lovely out today, lots of grouse calling, and we found bobcat tracks.

Deb, Miralax is benign compared to Golytely. You can buy it OTC as a regular laxative. Costco has it in a 2 pack. the quantity in the bottle is WAY more than required for a colonoscopy but it's cheaper to buy it that way. Yopu can weigh the right # of grams from the Costco sized bottle.

Golytely is an older product and involves a HUGE HUGE jug of liquid that has a funny "off" odor. I found biting into a slice of lime before drinking a glass ( from Katie Couric) helped me get thru it. the Miralax prep, as done out west here, is a fixed amount of Miralax dissolved in a quart (or two) of Gatorade. usually you need a small bottle of magnesium citrate too. It's a lot less fluid and the Miralax doesn't smell funny or have any texture to it. People seem to "like" it.... or get along with it better than the Golytely. I had the Miralax the first procedure and it didn't work for me. I was trying to follow their ridiculous( for me) low fiber diet. I knew better, but I kept thinking they were more knowledgeable than I was. Wrong. I won't and didn't do that again. regardless, most people seem to find the Miralax prep effective and not terribly unpleasant. Golytely...well.... not so great. It is a very large bottle of slimy fishy smelling liquid.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I took a rest day and today Chris and I did a short bike ride around the neigborhood. It was sunny but cold. Then we did some grocery shopping and I am getting caught up on cooking and laundry tonight.

Deb-I'm not sure if I will workout tomorrow or not. I might wait until Monday to start again too. I've felt like I needed a few days off or at least a few easy days and this seems like a good weekend for that. I have those new collars for the Troy barbell too. I love them! So much easier than the old ones.

Lynda-I agree, it is odd that Michigan doesn't get into emission testing. I found this on the Michigan DMV website:

I noticed the difference in air quality when I moved here. I'm used to it now, but I had a hard time running and biking outside at first.

Valerie-Wow! a 90 minute bike ride and 6 hour hike! That is way more than I will be doing this weekend. I'd love to do some hiking once it gets warmer here.

Diane Sue- That is a great deal for a Scwhinn spinning bike. I'd like to try Zwift if they would offer support for my bike. That was good that you could help your daughter. I hope she is feeling better soon.

Lori-I'm sorry you are still coughing :( Chris finally seems to be over his coughing. One of my Facebook friends is doing Tony Horton's 22 Minute Hard Corps. She seems to like it. I'll be interested to hear what you think of it. Next week I will start catching up on the Cathe Live workouts that I haven't done yet.

Hi to Josie!

Happy Easter!

Judy

I have been busy getting ready for tomorrow. I try to make dinner as easy to put together as possible so I can just enjoy everyone. I needed to make some olive oil mayonnaise and then put together one of my favorite salads from Well Fed 2. It is sweet and salty broccoli salad. It has bacon and raisins in it or there are options. I used the sugar free nitrate free bacon, and dried cranberries today with walnuts instead of the pecans. I generally blanch the broccoli because I think it tastes a bit better that way. The dressing is just olive oil mayo and some white wine vinegar. I make this a lot and will have it for lunch.
I am going to make a big green salad as well and I put together Hammer and Chisel Avocado Cucumber Dressing. Maybe this will help with the chips and Easter Junk )
I need to preview and plan those live workouts. I keep putting in ones that I have done part of before realizing I cannot do the whole thing. Anyway, today I did Live Low Impact Cardio and Strength, cardio only stopping when they got 3 risers and added light dumbbells for upper with the lower cardio, 23 minutes, 145 calories. I then put in Live Strong Total Body and realized after I was in to it that I had done it before. I skipped some parts and did a lower part twice. I used 25's for the deadlifts as my heavy weight but when they got to the 1 arm row there was no way. I started with 15 and lowered to 12. Then the lateral raises and pull overs I had to skip. This ended up being 45 minutes and 274 calories. Total time 68 minutes and calories burned 419. I responded to everyone once and tried a second time and I keep having the internet go out and it comes back with part of my workout. I am just going to go to bed and try this tomorrow maybe or Monday :) I hope that you ladies have a wonderful Easter Sunday :)
