Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 3/10

Deb, it's a lot of "set up" work but when it's done I relax and enjoy. it's a lot less driving once we get where we want to be. much more relaxing than moving from motel to motel and having to eat restaurant food.... never liked eating out. everything is "on board". usually need to resupply small things, like lettuce, milk, ice cream but so much nicer than motels. we both agree on menu choices, I do the prep work.
we stay in state parks, nat parks, BLM land, forest service, anyplace that allows camping. usually no big places with hook ups. to hike/ bike somewhere, we only need to go to the trailhead, and we usually plan for no big driving distances . Often early morning and evening are the best times to be outdoors for birds, animals, stars, and you miss all that in a motel.
that's the issue with motels... almost always a "commute", sometimes very far, both ways, and then looking for a place to eat. to me that takes all the spontaniety and relaxing parts out of vacation. motels are always loud, I can't sleep on their hot beds and awful pillows. we get up when we want, and eat what we like, pack a lunch and go hike or bike. IMO it's relaxing. I'll make my own coffee to have peace and quiet. but I love backpacking too, so the camper feels luxurious comparatively. off to yoga, more later.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did Cardio Leg Blast (56:18). My leg feels fine, so I will just pick up where I left off and leave off when I miss another workout on Sunday.

Very cold here with the wind chill. Darn, I wish it would be mild for our trip to Boston, but it looks like it's going to be barely in the 40s.

I guess it depends on the motel/hotel for me. We have stayed at a lot of Hampton Inns that were very nice when we flew around to see our son's soccer games in college. We're staying at the Constitution Inn for one night, then with our inlaws on Saturday night. The Constitution Inn is really inexpensive and close to Boston harbor.

Deb, I am still having a hard time getting up in the morning--the lingering effects of daylight savings, I'm sure. Yippee--I sold Yoga Relax on Amazon.

I've never been happy sleeping in motels. I can never get the temp low enough, and I hate the beds. those awful mattress covers over the mattresses..... I understand why they do it but don't know why they're so hot! I generate way too much heat and it becomes an oven. apparently I sleep a lot warmer than most. I hate the pillows. I get a stiff neck and a headache from the springy big pillows. I'm totally a feather pillow person. the worst invention has to be memory foam. the house we rented had a memory foam topper on the mattress, and I tried but didn't last 10 minutes. hot and weird sticky feeling stuff. ugh. I can sleep happily on the ground in a tent with my extra clothes for a pillow so I don't think I'm that fussy, but I want my temp to be cool.

I like to follow historical trails too... we have walked and looked at many parts of the lewis & Clark route in our travels. there will no doubt be trails and artifacts where we're going. lots of old west history in the area. I'm looking forward to petroglyphs! old cowboy stuff, and history of indians who populated the area before.
I totally lucked out this morning and was the only one who showed up for yoga so got basically a private lesson. don't know where everyone was. one regular lady is on vacation but if attendance is this low i'm afraid they won't keep the 7 am class going.

Good afternoon ladies!

No workout the morning. I am also having a hard time with the time change. I get up early as it is never mind losing an hour! I still got up out of bed at 4:30am and had coffee, played on ipad while watching news. Actually was very relaxing and peaceful.

Tonight will be cardio leg blast and perhaps 100 rep hip thrust. Been a while since I have done this 100 rep.

Garance..great that you are able to work out so quickly. Yes it is going to be cold this weekend. Dress warm! I love Faneuil Hall. Enjoy your time there.

Deb...yes I did buy the cables needed for Ipad. For my older TV I needed Componet Cables. These are the ones that have a red, yellow and white plug. At Best Buy they were sold in the TV wire accessory area and the price was $39.99. Newer TV needed the Apple adapter which was about the same price. I also needed a HDMI cable for the newer TV which I had on hand. Could have used the componet cables here too but HDMI gives a better picture. Hope I did not confuse you!

Valerie...I love camping and used to own a pop up camper. Fond memories.

Have a great evening!

Good morning and Happy Friday!!

I did Supercuts this morning, the whole workout, which I don't think I have ever done it in it's entirety. I only did 5 of those sit up/push up combo, and that was in slo/mo..Tough one.

Garance, congrats on selling that DVD...I have to say, I have never even viewed either of those Cathe yoga DVD's ...I keep thinking that maybe some year I will want to try yoga...I just sold 2 more DVD's, one Windsor Pilates set and a Kimberly Spreen Kickboxing one. I think I will go back to my rack and cull out some more :).

Valerie, I'm not too fond of hotel/motels either, ( unless it's the Ritz of course!), but never camped, and don't even like the idea of camping, so I am stuck with them. It takes about 2-3 nights in the same hotel for me to finally get comfortable enough to sleep.

Lori, as for the cables. we a set with the yellow/red/white ends, but how do you plug that into the iPad? and I would need to have the apple one for the new TV which is what I would be using to watch internet TV, or Hula..?

What's everyone up to this weekend?

Work, then a nice relaxing evening, no dog stuff to do! ( until tomorrow that is.)..

Deb, congrats on doing all of supercuts. the last section with pushups/sit ups is the hardest, and a perfect place for the "slow down" button. 80% speed is perfect. I did yoga and cardio supersets yesterday. IMO yoga is best in a small class. I would not do as well with a DVD. you need to like and connect with the teacher.

That's the issue with motels/hotels.... takes forever to get "acclimated". I never can get the temps down enough, air is always stale. never have cross ventilation so even open windows don't help. mostly, I get sick and tired of people and their crap and vacation is my break when I get away from as much as possible.
wow, NEVER been camping? I never did as a kid but learned as an adult. DH and I backpacked a lot and that's the best way to get away from people but seasons limit it. we didn't buy a "real" camper until I was 50-ish. before, we tent camped in campgrounds. that can be rough and sour you on the experience. the tent itself is fine, it's the other campers who are loud and motorized who generally make it unpleasant. Nothing like trying to sleep while a bunch of jerks get loud and drunk around a campfire, or run their generator at all hours. barking dogs. screaming undisciplined kids. I'll be the first to admit camping can be awful.
some nice places it's not possible or practical. Even in a crowded obnoxious campground ( yes, many are. especially in nat parks) we can shut the door, open the roof vent and block out most of the problems. some parks it's hard to get away from crowds even if you're backpacking. California ... especially Yosemite in peak season comes to mind. Yellowstone is my favorite place but we never camp in the park.

Good morning ladies!

Did not do cardio leg blast last night nor did I do hardstrikes this morning. had some family drama the past couple of days. I have 4 brothers and no sisters. The drama with the men in my family is out of control. So needless to say been a liitle to emotional to workout. Tonight thought I have decided to just go with a heavy bag workout. I think this will do me good! I'll catch up on the other workouts over the weekend.

Deb...the componet cables I bought have the Ipad plug on one end and the 3 colored plus on the other end. Sorry I should have been more clear with this.

Have a great day!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did Hard Strikes premix with core 1 (45 min.).

Off to Boston this afternoon and out to dinner tonight. Looking forward to seeing our younger son and wondering if there is an engagement announcement in the offing. He has been seeing this young lady for quite awhile and he is doing very well with his job, so maybe......

I'm not much for camping either. When we went to Yellowstone, we had park accommodations, and they were really lovely, as were the restaurants. We would hike all day, then clean up and go to the onsite restaurants. Of course, you have to reserve all of this the previous year. Petroglyphs--yes! Borrego Springs at a place on the way. So eery.

Good for you on Supercuts, Deb. I guess I am still just learning about my ipad. Why do you want to watch anything from TV on such a small screen? I can understand doing that on the plane, but I like my 52 inch HDTV.

Lori, I will be two days behind on the Undulating Rotation, because I will miss Sunday. Where are you? I hope it isn't too cold in Boston. I do sort of get a kick watching all of the pub crawlers because this is St. Patty's day weekend, and there's a lot of real and faux Boston Irish.

Back Monday! have a great weekend everyone!

Borrego springs? petroglyphs? Never been there but I've heard of it. think it's in southern CA though. we won't be near there, much further east.

I've seen pics of the petroglyphs... think I want to see the ones in horseshoe bend canyon. there's also a scenic place called The Wave but it's pretty hard to get a pass from BLM. only 20 people a day allowed, and half of those are lotteried off months ago, 10 left for each day with another lottery. Love to see it, but chances are slim. more likely in the off season, like Dec or Jan. in hot places it will be busy already. and it's spring break lots of places too.

I'm off.. talk to eveyrone in a week or two.
ETA Lynda , enjoy your Boston trip and your visit with your son.

Good evening!

Ended up doing hard strikes followed by MMA heavy bag and HS heavy bag. Just what I needed after a couple of stressful days. Felt great.

Have a great vacation Valerie and Garance enjoy your weekend in Boston. I live about an hour away and work about 40 minutes away. I love Boston I just never get there.

Busy weekend with my church. Spaghetti supper is tomorrow and I am ushering on sunday. This plus laundry, working out and walking chester is pretty much my weekend!

Chat with you all at some point. Have a great weekend end!!!!

Good morning,

Well it seems like everyone will be very busy this weekend, travelling, church activities, etc. My weekend will be agility class this morning, then lots of errands and HouseMax.

Lori, stop by if you can, it will be pretty lonely around here!

Take care,

Not gone yet... Lori we had 2 pop up campers. one died in a bad crash, the other we finally traded in. they were nice... a good transition from "on the ground" tent camping to a little fancier way to get around. We tried camping out of the back of our truck but that had real disadvantages so didn't last long with that method.

pop ups are nice and compact and great that you didn't need a giant truck to carry them. we had a small truck and were constantly having mechanical issues because of the weight so we finally upgraded to a more expensive set up since we like to travel this way. It was so nice to have a heater, a cooktop, and a mini frig! seemed like luxury. our current camper is bigger and nicer but certainly not a motor home or 5th wheel. those still seem excessive to me unless you live in it full time, though a lot of people do. we have more room and the sleeping space is vastly better.
