Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 2/21

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Travel Fit (50 min.).

Great news, Deb! I bet you both are so relieved. What exactly is dysplasia? Sounds like something is out of its proper place. We are getting rain here today, but I know it's snowing heavily elsewhere--Catskills is getting hit. We heard north and west, snow, east and south, rain. It's 38 degrees here, so the snow we had the last two days is pretty much melting into a sloppy mess, but at least it did not down trees and power lines. Max was hilarious in the snow, looking like a bouncing Tigger in his efforts to keep up with DH and the yearlings. DS is now ensconced in his apt. for a few days.

Josie, you lucky girl, you! I KNOW you are going to love those books. There was a long thread about them over at the open forum where everyone was exclaiming over how good they are. I cannot wait for the third.

Cathy, how many Firms do you have? I pretty much gave up on them after a certain point. I do have the Cardio Dance Fusion one though.

Still under a deluge of paper, Joan??

Hi to Valerie!

Good morning all..

Great news Deb, for you & DH. "Dys" means abnormal or difficult. here I believe it would mean bad or abnormal cell growth, but not a malignancy. Can't beat that! the waiting must have been difficult, to say the least.

Our unseasonably nice weather goes on. It was wet in the morning yesterday so we did some house things and garden stuff later. the dandelions are setting buds already. we have weeds that grow all year round.
I planted garlic. I didn't plant enough last fall so added some to make sure I have enough. we're going on vacation march 6th and need to get the camper out of hibernation. Lots of small things to do to it, it's new for us last summer so we're not speedy at it yet. I was supposed to pick up some furniture today but there were some mistakes made by customer service so it will get delivered here next week instead. Just a new headboard and frame for our bed, but I ordered it in early December. finally has shown up.

Tuesday I did a yoga class in the morning, then bike warm up, 30 on the treadmill, and disk 19, double wave loading for the first time. It took longer than expected with the waits between repetitions.

Joan, hope you can slide out of jury duty. not fair to be stuck forever with tax returns and then just as you can see over the top, to get that to look forward to.

Hi Ladies,

I will be working out with Kevin tonight plus 30 min of cardio. I only have one more class on Saturday and that will be it. I need to set up a new rotation for next week. I might do the pyramids again since those got me in great shape for a marathon before and I need all the strength I can get on my legs for the long ride.

Deb, I'm so glad that you and your DH received good news. My DH and I went to Palm Springs to a casino called Agua Caliente Resort and Spa. It is 2 hour from our house. My parents met us there and 2 of my brothers.

Garance, I ordered the books. Can't wait!

Hi Joan, Cathy and Valerie!

Josie

TGIF!!

Good Morning all,

I slept well last night and did not wake up until 5:00! :D. It's been a while since I had a sleep like that. We did not get all the snow that they predicted, maybe 3 inches... I am very glad though. We are now going to concentrate on what we need to do to prepare for the bathroom remodeling.

Garance, Dysplasia is what Val said, abnormal cells. However, not cancer cells yet. If left a while, they could turn into cancer cells, which is why we were so lucky that he had that attack and had to be checked out. You gotta love that Indian food! So glad your DS is doing well. Will staying in for a duration bother him?

Valerie, I too want to be where you are!! Although you would probably like this snow for snow shoeing..

Josie, so you are giving up your "Kevin" workouts? Are you still working out with a friend? You are sure lucky when you gamble. If I ever go to to that I am taking you along.:D

Joan, I hope you can get out of jury duty. They should postpone it for you because of tax season and this being your job. etc.. Did you call for a postponement?

Any plans for the weekend?

Take care...

Good morning,

Quick check in so you know I'm alive.

Deb Great news. :D:D

I'm still snowed under with work. I think I'm trying to get them done faster than prior years because I might have so many new clients. I'm still going to try to take an hour a day in March to exercise.

Today I take DM to eye doctor. Her left eye has looked red for some time but it may be just that the lower eyelid droops and exposes the inside of the eyelid. The bad news is the pain management doctor won't give her a shot in back. He's afraid it will cause additional swelling in legs. Unfortunately the pain in her hips is worse than the swelling in her legs.

Last year, 08-09, we had the winter that you in the east are getting this year. I don't know how heavily the weather forecasters focus on the el nino/la nina/ normal phenomena, but it pretty much drives the weather for north and south america. when it's el nino ( pool of relatively warm water in the pacific) or la nina( pool of colder water in the pacific) it determines weather patterns across the country for months. If I remember correctly, in 08-09 the east had a relatively mild winter. Our weather can differ so much from year to year that it almost seems like living in a different place. This year we got almost no snow, last year we were buried to the windowsills for months. we had so much snow in the miountains they were inaccessible. this year we can drive to almost as high as roads go. so the snowshoeing/skiing is better this year.

We're changing our phone and internet service today. We're switching from Verizon to the cable company. Was my idea and will be MY fault if it works badly. we pay ridiculous $$ for a land line we barely use. Verizon didn't offer a better deal, and now they've sold off their land line/internet service to another company. Time to change. We thought about dropping the land line but we'dl need a second cell phone so costs are similar. we'll see how this works.
I'll try to check back in later today if all goes well. if not, everyone have a great weekend.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Step Moves (44 min.).

Deb, maybe you slept so well because of an untroubled mind. We are still getting a mix of snow and rain here. That storm just keeps backing up and swirling around, but we definitely escaped the worst here anyway. When are you getting the bathroom done--soon??

Joan, your poor mom! Is she in assisted care? Did you request a postponement on your jury duty? You can do that once for any reason here in MA.

Valerie, where are you going on vacation? We shifted to cable for everything--TV, phone, internet--and it works well, although if it goes out, everything goes, and then you'd better have a cell phone so you can call them.

Josie, do you have Slow and Heavy? That might work well for your legs, too.

How's the weather in Texas, Cathy? They say the system we have now came from there.

Hi Ladies,

We should plan a trip so that we can meet each other. What do you think? We can make it a spa retreat or a fat farm ;)

I want to ride my bike tomorrow, but it is supposed to rain. If it rains I will be taking my last class with Kevin and spinning.

Garance, I don't have the slow and heavy DVD, but I might order it.

Deb, I would love to go gambling with you and Joan, we can both teach you.

Hi to Cathy and Valerie!

Have a nice weekend!

Josie

Hi ladies,

Josie, June, July or August and I'm in on a trip.

Garance The only assisted living for my mother is me. She had trouble getting out of a sofa yesterday and I had to lift her out. I hurt my back a little so I iced it last night. Today I went out and bought a $1200 lift chair. It's a recliner and it sort of dumps you out of the chair. The swollen legs make it difficult to get up out of a chair and impossible for a sofa. At least she will be able to elevate her legs. She can't lift them.

We spent 2 1/2 hours at eye doctor today- mostly waiting. She needs surgery on lower eyelid to tighten it up. That is Tues. March 16, then an appt March 17 and March 22 for follow up. It's a good thing I don't have anything else to do.

Joan

Saturday

Good morning all,

Today is HouseMax, and taking Keegan to agility class. It is still snowing here...will it ever end?

Joan, maybe you should work out a 30 minute per day rotation, which would not be so daunting, at least while you are still doing taxes. Kelly Coffey-Meyer 30 mintues to fitness weight workouts are nice for this, then do 30 minutes of cardio on the other days. Your poor DM has gone through so much recently, and you too! M FIL was paralyzed on one side and he had one of those chairs that helped him get up and it was a god send for my MIL at the time. He could use it to get in and out of his wheel chair right into that chair by himself.

Valerei, we have everything through the cable service, phone, cable and internent and I am really happy with it. Like Garance said, the only drawback is if you lose power, you do not have a phone, have to have a cell handy and make sure you have a car charger for it!

Garance, are you doing HouseMax too today? We are scheduled to have our bathroom start when the contractor finishes the kitched job he is working on now...he says last of March or early April. I am glad because we will be showering in a make-shift shower in the basement and it will be COLD!. any dinner plans for today?

Josie, I would fit right in at at fat farm..LOL :D. Slow & Heavy is really different, suggest you view the clips before ordering. I actually bought it years ago when all was VHS, hated it, sold it on Ebay, then when I was really into weight training, bought it again on DVD and love it now.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning was Housemax. This afternoon is paper-grading, my least favorite activity I think in the whole world.

Deb, it's still snowing lightly here as well. WHEN IS IT GOING TO STOP?! It's not fun snow either--too wet and sticky. I just get tired of winter at a certain point, and I think this is it. At least I'm not in Hawaii worrying about a tsunami from the Chile earthquake. I have the SH on VHS. Have not done it in awhile. Are the DVDs really good?

Josie, I might be heading to LA next January because the MLA convention is going to be there. We also have a Canyon Ranch in the Berkshires that is supposed to be a great spa experience. Something to think about.

Joan, does your mom live with you? That ejection chair sounds like a real help for both of you.

We're going out tomorrow night for sushi, but tonight is just leftovers. Next week I am making a pork fricassee, followed by pesto (frozen from last summer) with baked plum tomatoes, and minute steaks with oven fries. Salad with the pork and steaks. I enjoy coming up with a weekly menu.

Hi to Valerie and Cathy!
