Pentagenarians & Beyond:W/B 12/15

Just an update: I have Clostridium difficile. It's a bacteria found in your bowel in small numbers, but when you wipe out the normal flora with antibiotics, it takes over and causes something called pseudo membranous colitis. Very nasty.

At least now that we know what it is and have the right meds for it I can hope that I am going in the right direction. It took the ER docs to figure it out. I think the PA,s and NP,s from my GP's office would had let me drop over. They actually sounded offended when I called this morning for the test results and when they didn't have them I told them I was going to the ER. Also the hospital was able yo do th CT scan without all the BS about insurance.

Valerie, Just so you know, know not all Dr's offices are like this but I have lost all confidence in the one I currently go to.

Will check in tomorrow.

Deb, I started another thread when we didn't hear from you. I had already asked my husband about "C. diff "... that's what it's referred to commonly. it's not unusual after people are on antibiotics a while. I was afraid to suggest it to you and plant an idea since I am not a doc but.... I'd looked it up on WebMD and then asked DH. com on over to the new thread.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

Do you remember reading about the "poop transplants" in the news a couple months ago? this is the situation they were talking about... someone whose normal flora ( all the regular population of bacteria) in the colon has been wiped out. If it doesn't re-populate properly then "poop transplants" are sometimes used..... just to give you another thing to think about!
