Pentagenarians & Beyond W/b 11/17

Good morning,

Hump Day over, now the weekend, which I will be having to drop in at work, both days.

A huge project came up earlier than we planned ( our usual end of the year inventory for our largest warehouse client). We had planned to do it in December, most likely over Christmas, and they told us yesterday they need it done by Sunday night! Not happy, since I am supposed to start vacation after Friday, but happy that we will not be doing this over Christmas week.

Judy, I agree with Lynda, I don't think your FIL would do well in an apartment at this point. It would be "unfamiliar" and may be more stressful for him. Assisted living sounds like the next step. Is there one close to you that you can visit and see what it is like?

Valerie, I do hope your sister is better, and your brother is great for all he has been doing!

Garance, yes, KCM is good for the shorter workout format. I don't really hear the music much in any workouts I do. I do remember how you really liked that Pure Spice workout...would be great if she did another....it's odd that she hasn't I have one of hers, I think it's a core workout, a little bit of dance moves, but not really a dance workout.

Hi to Josie!

Take care,

Sorry you have to work this weekend Deb :( but you're right, it's better than having to work Christmas. In my old career I used to have to go in on weekends and holidays quite a lot too.

There are several assisted living facilities near us, one that is less than a mile away. The problem is that FIL is refusing to leave his house. SIL wanted to take him to an assisted living place for a tour last year and he refused. He thinks he is independent and doing fine (he isn't). Unfortunately he had a driving assessment that was ordered by his doctor, and he passed  That just served to confirm to him (FIL) that he is doing fine. What it confirms to me is that the state of Michigan is incompetent. DH took him to the assessment, fully expecting that FIL would lose his license.

FIL is being very difficult at this point. All I can really do is offer moral support for DH/SIL :(

Hi Ladies,

I have been busy getting ready for Thanksgiving. My whole family usually comes to my house.
On Tuesday I went to a hard core class, Wednesday I went spinning and today I will be going to a class called body pump. I'm very sore from Tuesdays class:). I will start baking when I get back from the gym :)

Valerie, some people are very stubborn and unappreciative. Your brother is so sweet to take care of her.

Deb, I remember when you had to do then inventory last year. At least you can enjoy Christmas this year without any interruptions.

Judy, you are doing the right thing by staying away from the drama. It should be a decision between the siblings.

Garance, I read the article about the diet. I need every carb I can get once I start my long rides on the upcoming weekends. After last Sunday's ride a was craving a cheeseburger ;)

Lori, I plan on starting T-25 in January. In the meantime I have been doing the ab interval.
That one gets me sore every time.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did All Out Low Impact Hiit +core 1 (49:22). I wonder if I will ever tire of this workout. I just really like it, and especially the warmup song.

Ahh Deb, that is really not fun that you have to work. Weren't you taking off all of next week originally? If I remember correctly, you have Christi Taylor's Dance Fit, which is really easy dance stuff on the step, intervals with 5 lb. wts, and ends with a little bit of hi-lo and a core workout. It's a bit long, but it was one I used a lot because the music was good.

Valerie, your brother sounds wonderful. If your sister didn't even recognize how awful her house smelled and looked? She must be in total denial of some kind. I agree with Josie--very unappreciative.

Judy, I agree with you and Josie on this one too. I had two Much older sisters that were always in some kind of feud and I would never take sides because I thought it dated back to their childhood dramas.

Josie, do you do anything Latina for Thanksgiving? I am thinking of doing a pumpkin flan as a lighter alternative to pumpkin pie, which our friends are bringing.

Hi to Lori!

Garance,

I don't make any Mexican dishes for Thanksgiving but I do for Christmas :)
We make tamales and buñuelos.

Josie

My sister is a little "off". I don't mean to be unkind, but she's never gotten along well with anyone. something seems to have happened to her over the years though to make it even worse. Her house sounded like a total PIT and she seems mostly unaware. my brother has a rough demeanor but he's a kind caring person underneath it all. I'm done with it for a while! unlike Judy, I haven't been able to avoid the 'drama" lately. more later

ETA.. I hear you on the carbs, Josie. endurance activities really require carbs! it amazes me when someone eats something like jerky!

Bummer on the scheduling Deb. both weeks are tough for extra added work loads but to pop it up on such short notice seems especially unkind.

Judy that is odd that FIL did OK on drivers testing. Does he actually try to drive anywhere? my husband's grandmother used to sit in her driveway in her car with the motor running or not..... I suspect it reminded her of better days. but she didn't drive anywhere. it must be really hard to give up independence.

Good Morning!

I got up at 3:50 with the dogs and decided to do X-10 Circuit Blast...I had to do a lot of modifying, it was tough and this is supposed to be one of the easier from this disk.

Well the project is going a lot better than we thought and it may be done tomorrow morning, or sooner if we are as good as we were yesterday.

Judy, I am sorry about what is happening with your FIL and DH/SIL. :( I did not go through this with my parents, but my cousin has with both my aunt and uncle. It is very hard. I hope they work out their differences, and in the end your FIL is in a place that is safe.

Josie, great workouts!

Garance, yes, I am supposed to be on vacation next week. I may work Monday, not for the project, but I have to interview some people for a job posting in one of my departments :( Timing is horrible. You're right! That is the DVD I have. Do you have that one too?

Valerie, I think your brother was great to do that for your sister, she should appreciate it more, but it sounds like in the state she is in, she is not thinking clearly at all. Is her physical situation better?

Hi Lori!

What's everyone have planned for the weekend? We have a play tomorrow, (and agility class of course) hoping I only have to stop in at work for a bit.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Flextrain (56:36). For some reason, this one just seems to fly by. I think it's the way Cathe goes from easy to hard (e.g., after two rounds of rows with a 25 lb. dumbbell, she plops us down for band work and I am refreshed for another round.).

Deb, I just mailed off my X10 to a buyer today. Did.Not.Like.This.One. Yes, as I said, I did Dance Fit once a week for quite awhile. Maybe in the new year I will pull it out again. I like Cathe, but feel like I need some variety of instructors. Good luck on getting that project done tomorrow. This weekend DH has a holiday market on Sunday, I have shopping to do for Thanksgiving, and we are going out to another comfort Sunday meal. I was going to see 12 Years a Slave, but I think I will wait until Monday, because I have heard that it's pretty emotionally wrenching. Cap highlights this afternoon--blondied up for the holidays. By the way, I think we are getting an Arctic blast on Sunday, so get out your faux furs and down jackets!

Anyone with Amazon Prime watching Alpha House? It's probably an accurate representation of the craven dopes we elect for the Senate.

Valerie, I hope you get a break for awhile from the drama and your sister gets the help she needs.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Good afternoon ladies!

Cold is coming this way is right Lynda! Ugh.

This morning I slept in and it felt great! Last night was athletic training. I think I am doing burn set bis and tris tonight.

We have no plans for the weekend. I started reading Catching Fire again this week and I am about 50% thru so thought I will see 12 years a slave. I read the book so I know what to expect. Looks like I may be working Monday and Tuesday of next week. Just to much going on here.

Deb..Glad to hear you should be done with your project tomorrow. I am a fan of the x10 workouts. Have you tried the low impact one?

Lynda...I love flextrain too. I agree it just flies by and I feel I get a really great workout with this one.

Valerie...your brother is wonderful for doing all that. I too hope she gets the care she needs and quickly.

Judy...So sorry with all that is going on with your FIL. This must be so difficult for you and your DH.

Josie...I like the Ab interval too...not while I am doing it thought but once I am done I feel good about it!

Have a great weekend!!!

Hi Everyone,

It is freezing here tonight! Looks like cold and snow in the forecast for the weekend.
I tried the Workout Blender for the first time today. I put together a full body workouts using sets from all 3 Gym Styles workouts. I loved it! Makes me want to start downloading more workouts. I may download a few more this weekend.

Josie-it sounds like you've been getting some great workouts in!

Lynda-Pumpkin Flan sounds great!

Valerie-FIL doesn't drive much now. Only to the Meijer store, about 3 miles from his house. DH takes him every where else he needs to go. It was surprising that he passed the test.

Deb- Great job on the X10 workout! Tomorrow we are taking Echo and Chino for their first vet visit. Chino might have a little upper respiratory infection, as he has been sneezing. I'm hoping to get a spin workout in too. We're having our Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday, at FIL's house. DH & SIL spent some time talking about things tonight so hopefully there will be minimal drama on Sunday.

Lori-sounds like we're having the same weather. I have Monday off, but will be working Tuesday and Wednesday.

Have a good weekend,

Judy

Happy Weekend!

We finished the inventory yesterday so no reason to have to go to work this weekend! However, I have an issue that I have to take care of Monday, so my vacation is messed up with having to go in for that.

Garance, I like Flex Train a lot, however I have not done the entire workout, only premixes. One of the step DVD's ( I think PRS #2) sold on Ebay, I mail I out today. I had to relist 2 of the others, you can't give them away on Ebay, there are so many listed there from this series. :( I should try on Amazon, but is seems so much more complicated to sell there than on Ebay. I saw a preview for that Alpha House show, I may try it if it's free on Prime.

Lori, haven't tried the low impact x-10 yet, but will do that one next. Too bad you need to go in on Monday and Tuesday, I feel your pain. I had plans to meet my friend for breakfast on Monday, hopefully she can change to Tuesday now.

Judy, you and Lori are making me want to try the Workout Blender! The only thing that stops me is that I don't want to buy the same workouts again in downloads...I guess I am too cheap! LOLI would like to make total body, 30 minute workouts from some of the Cathe split session type, like Pure Strength, Slow & Heavy etc. though, like you did with Gym Styles. Good to hear that DH and SIL may be working things out. Hope you have a nice dinner tomorrow.

Hi to Valerie & Josie!

Agility class, then we are seeing one of our plays at the local theater, one about Buffalo...a comedy from a writer that we have seen before, his plays are great!

Take care,

Good morning ladies!

Being lazy this morning. It's 9:00am and I am still lounging! At some point I am planning LL&A and a Ride premix.

Deb...great that you finished the project. My next week is all messed up for me at this point. Looks like I will now take off Wednesday thru Tuesday. Not what I planned but it will do.

I LOVE the workout blender and get tons of use out of it. I have bought a few downloads that I already have the dvd's for but not many. And only when she has a great sale...like this week...40% off $40 or more. In the future I may buy only downloads. I am eyeing Butts and Guts....would love to take some of my favorite segments and add to LL&A or GG. Very tempting!

Judy...great idea with the total body. I have the gym styles as downloads. This will be my next project.

Josie...sounds like you have a really nice family gathering. This year is so relaxed for me. Going to my son's girlfriends house. This will be the first time in ages it has not been at my house. I am actually looking forward to the break.

Lynda...going to check out Alpha House. Sounds interesting. Feeling cold and not liking it at all!

Valerie...any word on you friends if they are able to come for Thanksgiving? Hoping yes. This will give you a nice break form all the turmoil you have been dealing with.

Have a great weekend all!
