Good Morning!

Cold again here, but so far not raining. The leaves are starting to fall off quickly now...:(. My computer changed the time on itself last night, I had to change it back. Why did they do this again? Does a couple of weeks really matter...does any of it matter any more?

Today is the day I bake the Amish Friendship bread that oru groomer friend gave me Thursday. I make 4 bags of starter out of my bag, and either keep one and give 3 away or give all 4 away...if you keep one, you bake 2 loaves every 10 days.

Today I think I will do one of the total body pre-mixes on Kelly Coffey's 30 minutes to fitness DVD...then use the upper/lower body splits for 2 other days this week.

Garance:
Good for you for sleeping in late yesterday. Your body is telling that you need rest. It's not too cold here...I think it got up in the high 40's yesterday. It's the wind and rain that make it feel nasty. What's up on the workout schedule for you this week? Cooking anything interesting today?

Linny:
I hope you rested yesterday after those 10 hour days! Any interesting plans for today?

Josie:
Sending you ((WIN! WIN!))) vibes in Vegas!

Have a great day!

Hi Deb, Linny, and Josie--

This morning I did Kelly C-M's legs, chest, and back on the 30 minute DVD, then added on one of Leslie's walks. Added up to about an hour with the warmups and cooldown stretches. I liked this quite a bit. I used 12 lb. dumbbells with Kelly and added some little 2lbs with Leslie. I felt pleasantly worked out, and I didn't feel overly stressed on my knees, which is what I always worry about with lower body work. Leslie is much lower key on this DVD--maybe because she is all by herself.

Watched Iron Man from netflix last night. I really liked it. Robert Downey Jr. is very appealing, and even Gwyneth Paltrow was pleasant as Pepper Potts.

I am making wiener schnitzel from one of my Rachael Ray cookbooks. Our pork cutlets. There's also an intriguing mushroom, bacon gravy with baby gherkins to go with it. Red cabbage, apples, and onions in a sweet-sour sauce as a side.

Tomorrow I will do the other half of Kelly with another Leslie walk.

Last night it POURED rain incredibly. Today is sunny and I will probably try to get in some more garden clean-up this afternoon.

Hope you had a great weekend in Vegas Josie, and some fun time with your children and grandchildren, Linny!

Question about the apple crumb pie

Hi...Linny:

When you make the apple crisp/crumb pie, I have frozen 9" pie shells...do you cook them first then cook them again with the stuff in them? ( can you tell I am not a baker?)

Deb

Hi Ladies:
Well I did it,cancelled my STS order. The more I saw previews the more I thought I would be over my head.I really could use the money for Christmas too.
Deb:Regarding the pie: I always made my own crust so I quess you would defrost in first.I did make apple crisp tonight and that lobster bisque(wish my DH loved).Today I went to see Pride and Glory with Ed Norton,it was pretty good.Went grocery shopping with DS and bought some pomegranate mix for margaritas, yum.I did work out today, did Lowmax.Haven't done that one in a while.
Garance:Did have fun yesterday at DD's house. My DS and I rode down together and we all went to a craft fair to benefit my DGD's chorus group. It was quite the mad house at DD's place. She has 4 dogs and her boyfriend had his 3 kids plus my 2 granddaughters running around. It was hard to have a conversation at times.I was trying to get to know older DS's girlfriend since they are buying a condo together. I think I may try Kelly's cardio kickboxing tomorrow. I did see Iron Man when it first came out,I thought it was a cool movie.I think its coming out on dvd within the next few weeks,so I think it will be a Christmas present.
Josie: Hope you're having a great time in Vegas.Win big!

It it Monday already?

Good Morning!

Well this is the last day of my little "vacation"..:(...I could really get used to being off permanently. I wish I could retire. Anyway, not happenin for a few years, so no point going there.

I will be doing an I-Tread after I get more caffine in!..We had a pretty windy night.. at one point it sounded like something was banging against the house..I did not get up to loo! If John was home he would have been out there "scouting around" as he calls it...not me, thank you very much! I can wait for day light to see if there is any damage. Kelsey was up 3 times with "issues"...last night...I am glad she woke me up all 3 times or it would have been ugly. I should probably make something in the crock pot today, so it is hot and ready when John gets home. I am sure he will be starving, and it is such "crock pot" weather.

Garance:
Glad you like the K-C workouts..she is a little different..I did one of the total body pre-mixes yesterday..it's still only 30 minutes, she cuts out the active rest stuff in between sets and just keeps going. I used 12's for some of it, but could not with the side lateral raises...I had to drop down to 8's....Your meal sounds delish! Pork cutlets or pork anything for that matter is my favorite meat!

Linny:
Thanks for the info on the pie crust.. I will let it thaw while doing the other stuff..Good for you for doing Low Max! I tend to forget I have that one, as step is not my favorite cardio...Too bad about the STS but you know what you can or want to do, and it's is a lot of money. I hope I am able to do it with modifications. The part I don;t like is that I will probably be buying more stuff to do it, like that pull up thing she is going to offer. Your visit sounds like chaos but fun chaos! How are you getting alone with DS's girlfriend?

Josie:
Did you win? ( everybody asks that to people that get back from Vegas!)

All:
Before I forget, the Cathe calendar is being offered now with a 20% future discount code if you are one of the first 500 to purchase..I have one haning in my workout area, where I log what I do each day so I went ahead and ordered the new one.

Have a great day!

Deb

Hi Ladies,

I came back with $340.00 dollars that I will be adding to my mad money pot. It was fun and short. I did not do any workouts this weekend .

I did SS this morning and increased my weight on some of the excercises. I can really feel it in my arms. I probably won't have time to do my cardio this evening because I have to do some errands.

have a nice day!

Josie

Hi Deb, Linny, and Josie--

This morning I did the Kelly 30 min. upperbody--bis,tris,and shoulders. I started off with 10s thinking I could surely handle that on bis, but she started with triceps kickbacks with 10s, which is too heavy for me. Anyway, I did the first round with 10s (very tough!) and then went down to 8s and when she used a 15, I used a 12. I added on a half hour of Leslie, so a little over an hour. I rather like Kelly's active rests when she does some very different abs exercises.

Deb, I used a frozen deep dish 9" pie crust when I made the apple crumb pie, and let it thaw out before adding the filling. I did not bake it before hand. It really turned out well--all coated with caramelly like ooze. Yum.

On another topic, I am wondering if I should order Cathe's calendar, because apparently if you do, you can get a 20% off coupon from shopcathe.com, which might be useful for some of that new equipment. What do all of you think?? Or am I just about to commit another act of buyer's remorse? I have argued myself out of rescinding my STS order, so I am staying with that.

The wiener schnitzel was really, really good. A definite repeat. DH will have leftovers tonight while I go out to a dinner and lecture. The lecture is on Bollywood films from a feminist perspective. The restaurant is incredibly expensive, but goes on the college tab.

The college is sending around a photographer to my office this afternoon for a photo shoot on the new offices. Apparently my additions to the decor--framed posters from Plath conferences, some of them featuring her art, a big easy chair with colorful shawls for when I just want to curl up and read, photos of my gorgeous men, and a small Oriental rug--are publicity worthy. I will also be photographed, so I tried to dress up a bit. I do love my office.

Wow, Josie, 340 dollars for fun!! Good for you.

Linny, I think you will like that Kelly C-M Step Kickboxing. It's very reminiscient of the Christi Taylor, but she does have some shorter premixes. The whole thing is like Christi's--70 min.

The calendar

Hi,

I did order the calendar, since I always get one to hang up in my workout area, and the 20% will come in handy if those things for STS are out by 12/15:rolleyes:...it expires that day.

Josie:
Wow those winning vibes we sent your way worked!. Which SS do you do? There are so many pre-mixes with A's & B's etc I could never understand how that one worked...

Garance:
You have to send us a link to wherever they post those pics of you and your lovely office!

Deb

Hi Deb,

I do the whole SS (53 min.). I do not like to do the pre-mixes. I try to give mysel 1 hour for my weight training.

The vibes did work. Thank you Ladies!

I will be going back to Vegas this Friday to celebrate our DD's birthday.
So, please send me some more good vibes.

Josie

Hi Ladies:
How come weekends go so fast?:( Back to work tonight.
Deb:Actually DS's girlfriend seems very nice.My DD thinks she's great and she has socialized with her more than I. Hope your DH had a safe trip, did you make the apple crumb pie for him? I made Chicken Marsala with Mascarpone cheese for dinner. It is in one of my Giada cookbooks. I'm with you on the retirement issue.I play PowerBall weekly and keep my fingers crossed.
Garance:Wow that Kelly cardio kickboxing had me sweating.I think its gonna take a while to get the steps down.I left like I was all over the place. My step is on carpet and every once in a while it would slide.I think it the vertical placing of step. Do you think they will post your office pictures?I'd love to see them too.
Josie:Congrats on your winnings.Sending you lots of like for this coming weekend. It would be nice if your DD won for her birthday.Good for you doing all of SS.I never do the whole thing ususally bodyparts here and there.
Well closing in on nap time.Have a great night~Linny~

Sleep Deprived on TUESDAY

Good Morning,

Well DH is back and so is his snoring!..very little sleep last night..also the little "K" puked in his crate some time after midnight and I had to get up and get that all cleaned and new bedding put in...around 3:00 I came downstairs to the couch..I feel like a zombie right now. no workout today.:(

Garance:
Did you get the calendar? How was dinner?..how did the photo shoot go?..is your cold gone yet? Wow am I full of questions today!

Josie:
Sending you ((Win!, Win!)) vibes for this weekend.

Linny:
Weekends and days off fly by!. If your DS is happy, that is all that matters right? Maybe you and his friend will become closer soon. Have you gone to lunch with her just the 2 of you? or had some time alone to talk and get to know her better?..Cudos to you for doing that step workout with the vertical step! NOt sure if I could handle that. I have not made the pie yet. I made the Amish Friendship bread this week...( not sure if I told you all about that), and now I have 4 bags of the starter that I need to give away! I am hoping some women at work will want to do it.

Have a great day ladies!

Deb;)

Hi Deb, Linny, and Josie--

This morning I did the Kelly Cardio Kick Step-boxing vertical premix (39 min.). It was a bit easier this time around.

Linny, it's the Kelly C-M Cardio Sculpt Fitness that's like Christi. I agree with you on the vertical part of the workout above being a bit difficult to master. Try the horizontal--I found that one much easier.

If I were you, Deb, I would fix up another bed to retreat to when DH starts snoring. My DH sleeps in the guest room when either of us is sick, so last week when I had a cold, he was there and I was coughing as loud as I needed. My cold is just about kaput--just an occasional cough. No, I did not order the calendar. I'm still thinking about it, but if the 20 per cent discount only lasts until 12/15, I probably won't know if I want to buy the equipment, because STS isn't coming until Christmas (or maybe later!).

If the college puts some of the photos up at its website, I will let you know. He took an awful lot of pictures and I started feeling really awkward with all the snapping and directions--sit here, look to the side, put your U of Chicago mug there, stand in front of the window. Yikes!

The Bollywood lecture was very poorly attended because she was competing with Jane Swift--briefly governor of MA until Republican pooh-bahs thought Romney should run. I think they paid her off handsomely. Anyway, she was giving a talk titled "Lipstick Republicans: Why they drive liberal Democrats crazy." But my dinner was excellent and I had a Manhattan, so I was happy.

Looks like snow is headed our way tonight. TOO EARLY!!!!!

Win some more moolah in Vegas, Josie!

Hi Ladies:
Well made through another monday. They are the toughest for me,since I don't sleep from sunday till tuesday morning(yawn).Today I didn't sleep well,I wake and start thinnking and then can't get back to sleep.
Deb:I agree,as long as my DS is happy thats all that matters. My DH snores on occasion too.I couldn't live without my earplugs, maybe you need a pair.I hope you get some sleep tonight.
Garance:I'll have to look for that Cardio-sculpt fitness dvd.Since I do like Christy's dance to be fit. Please do tell us if they post your pictures.
Josie: Hope all is well.
To bed I go~Linny~

It's HUMP DAY!

Good Morning,

Another crappy nights sleep...no workout again! DH has sleep apnea, although he will not tell the dr about it, and I am the one that does not get sleep. He really needs to see the dr and let him know his symptoms. He is in complete denial!..I think he is afraid that he will have to use one of those c-pap things so he won;t do it.

Garance:
I agree on the calendar and the discount they offered. YOu would think that they would have the discount be good until at least Jan so that if there are things that are needed for STS, you could use it. There really isn't anything I want otherwise, at least not before 12/15. I get the calendar anyway so it was no big deal. We do have another room that I could go to, but I would still hear him. If I listen real hard, I can hear him from downstairs in the living room !...Some nights are not as bad as others. I think it depends on when, and how much he has eaten before bed. I do want to see those pictures too! Did you watch Dancing Monday night? I think after Cloris, Susan should go. I like what Carie Ann said about Tony being gone and having Cloris still there. I have not watched last night's tape yet so I don;t know who got voted off.

Linny:
wow you go a long time on Monday's without sleep! That is all part of that shift, I remember it well. I don;t think they make ear plugs that would block out this sound! I do have ones that I used for shooting, but I think I would still hear it...A lot is that he stops breathing for about 20-30 seconds, then gasps and snorts loudly and I jump out of my skin! Do this repeatedly all night and you want to scream!

Josie:
When do you leave for Vegas? Will you see any shows while you are there?

Have a great day!

Deb

Hi Deb, Linny and Garance,

I will be leaving on Friday around noon. We are driving this time and will stop in Barstow for some shopping. There is an outlet out there and we usually stop and refull and eat there.

I usually do not go to the shows because they sit you like sardines and there is a 2 drink minimum that they serve you as soon as you sit down. I do not like this at all!

Linny, I could not survive without having my 8 hour sleep every night. I would be like a zombie.

Garance, I'm waiting for the pictures!

Today I did PP and felt great, I'm going to increse the weight next week. I will be doing stairs tonight and I did walk for one hour and twenty minutes last night.

Have a great day ladies!

Josie

BRRRRRRR!

Hi Deb, Linny, and Josie--

This morning I did Lauren's kettlebell workout (45 min.).

I had to put on my down coat this morning. It's freezing here--in the low 30s with plenty of wind to whip through you if you are not wearing down. It's too early.

Deb, maybe if you record DH and play it back to him, it might scare him into doing something about the sleep apnea. If my DH were doing this, I couldn't sleep because I would be afraid for him in addition to being awakened by the noise. What is it about stubborn men, anyway?? Whenever my DH has an ailment, I am the one who has to somehow figure out what to do about it. Last winter it was chilblains, which he gets because he is always taking off his gloves in the cold. I bought him some of those gloves for this winter where you can pull back the fingers if you have to do something mechanical, which is what he is often doing. I knew about chilblains because they appear in a lot of literature.

Well it's back to paper grading again for me. Another set of papers. I am going to try to do a few every day instead of my usual procrastinating self. They should be pretty good after all the tutorials I did with them on their drafts.

I won't spoil DWTS for you Deb. I agree with you on Carrie Ann's remark about losing Toni, only to keep Cloris another week. Maybe I should start voting?

On the calendar-discount issue, I thought I might be interested in the weight vest, since the ladies over at the Open Forum seem delighted with it, and it would save about nine bucks. But I don't know--I'm feeling wishy-washy.

It's Thursday!

Good Morning!

I can;t believe another night of horrible sleep! Mostly due to the dogs this time, but DH was also doing his "thing"...I finally got him to say he will call the DR and ask about the sleep problem...now I have to keep on him to make sure he does it! No workout again.. This is not a good week for workouts and my eating has been horrible!...that awful Halloween candy that DH keeps bringing in and we don';t give out candy! We give out toothbrushes..being a dentist and all.

Josie:
You have a fun weekend planned! sending you ((WIN_WIN)) vibes! I guess I didn;t realize how those shows in vegas are, never having been to one!

Garance:
Yes it's really cold here too. I put winter type coat on yesterday too. Brrr..Your poor DH..."chilblains"...I have heard of this term but never knew what it was. They appear in books like from the past? something that was common or is common to those that work outside a lot? I am so glad Cloris is gone...next should be Susan, then Maurice, then the football player ( forgot his name), then we are at the point where it could be anyone I think. I feel wishy washy about buying anything for STS right now too...I keep asking myself, "will I really use that?"

Linny:
I hope you got a good night's rest. Today is your Friday correct?..any fun plans for the weekend?

Have a great day!

Deb;)

Hi Deb, Linny, and Josie--

This morning I did the horizontal premix from Kelly C-M's Cardio Kick Step-Boxing (50 min.).

Yep--Cloris is gone, and I think Susan should definitely be next. On the other hand, I thought Maurice and the football player were really good on the hip-hop routine for the group, so I am witholding judgment for a bit (like who cares what I think anyway, and I don't vote).

Sorry to hear about the sleep deprivation, Deb. I think it makes you hunger for comfort foods--like candy. No one ventures up our quarter-mile driveway for Halloween, so we stopped buying the stuff a long time ago. No temptations for me there. I do grab a couple pieces, though, from our Dept. office almost every afternoon. Our administrative assistant has a big bowlfull on desk at all times.

I am so bad. After saying I was going to do some paper-grading, I ended up frittering away my whole afternoon. Just when I was going to settle in (sharpened pencils poised to attack!), an old friend from San Diego called to tell me that she had just been made a grandmother, so I talked for about an hour. Then a student came in for what was supposed to be a brief conference, and she chatted endlessly for another hour. So I said WTH and decided to do some reading. So much for talking the talk. I promise nothing this afternoon, but I am hoping . . . she said wistfully.

What do you think of the weight vest, Deb?

Hi Ladies,

I woke up feeling tight all over. I did not get much rest last night. I will be walking with my cardio partner tonight and tomorrow I will be doing SS in the AM.

We will be leaving to Las Vegas aroung 1:00PM. Thank you ladies for the well wishes.
I will do my best to win.

Have a great weekend!

Josie
