Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 1/8

Good Morning,
We arrived here yesterday around four and I had a chance to rest. Valerie, it's so true that sitting in the car all day is so exhausting. It's a seven hour drive but the weather was good. Today we will plan out meals that will appeal to the children and to me. My son-in-law left this morning and my daughter leaves tomorrow. She will only be away for three days. It's always an adventure to have the grandkids without parents :).

Deb, that's great that the dietary changes have helped your cholesterol. I am sure that other improvements will come.

Valerie, too bad about the refrigerator but at least you were able to salvage some of the food. When we lived in military housing in San Antonio we went away for Christmas and returned to a rare south Texas ice storm. The pipes in our house froze and everything flooded. It was awful.

Judy the first workout on Cardio Quick Fix is very easy. Adding workout two makes it more challenging.

No workout planned for today. Wishing everyone a wonderful day.

The appliance people called mid afternoon and said they could be there in half an hour yesterday, so we said "YES". Really pleased with it!. even someone else doing it takes a while.... It looks great. it's a stainless steel whirlpool side by side. not enough room for a French door or I'd have done that. so far I love it. I just moved all back from the garage fridge /freezer. I didn't lose anything obvious from the fridge. I had pared things down because of our trip. Deb, the water on the floor came from the bucket of ice cubes. we turned off the water supply to it, but hadn't tossed the cubes. we had a puddle but not a lake.

we never figured out the issue with the airbag chimes. they are so incessant ( I HATE them) you have to stop and turn off the car so you can think and read the manual. going crazy from the dinging! there is no listing under "A" for airbag. no... it's under "S". of course, how silly of me not to look under "S". they are "Seatbelt restraint system" airbags so to look them up in the manual it's under "S" I changed clock time when we crossed time zones and the little flashing airbag icon is in the same spot. thought I'd hit the wrong button. but no. seatbelts on, doors all shut and no reason. hadn't moved anything. all I could find was a note about someone in the backseat pushing on the back of the front seat so that is my best guess for setting off the alarm. maybe our luggage shifted a little.

those are some great prices on bras!. I am still surprised they have gotten so expensive Wacoal especially. seems like good pricing is for last seasons color that didn't sell well, or for odd sizes. extra smalls never need to pay full price for anything. that is right about the countdown timer... it helps me push harder if I know I have a specific amount of time left. open ended things.... I back off of because I want to be sure to finish, so knowing how much time is left lets me go harder. same with knowing how many reps from the beginning.

the delivery killed off my workout yesterday. I haven't done anything in a week. today for sure. I need to grocery shop too.. the fridge is pretty empty. Carolyn I think a long drive is exhausting especially when weather or traffic is an issue. I get so jittery I can't sleep well after.
Places where freezing weather is not common have a hard time. people in the northwest are blindsided when we get a stretch of cold temps. houses are not built with enough insulation like in severe winter areas. water damage is terrible.

Judy hope your discomfort goes away. I will have to do cycle Sweat again soon. maybe without the countdown timer I went easier on myself than I should have.

No workout today. I felt something coming on yesterday and by evening I was coughing and sniffles. I woke up with a terrible sinus headache. It is more croupy today so I am resting. I made a large Cranberry Avocado Salad with a poppy seed dressing from Paleo leap for lunch. It was just right. Not overly sweet. You had an option of to use some honey or not. I used 2 Tablespoons in the dressing. It is topped with sliced almonds. It called for white balsamic vinegar?? I used white wine vinegar since I only have regular. I have never seen the white balsamic vinegar before.
My husband and son fixed the dryer. Yeah!! It was the pulley and a good thing that I bought the whole repair kit that had the belt, pulley and rollers. So it cost 26.00 and they replaced all of those parts. It is 9 years old. Hopefully this and cleaning all of the lint out of it will give it another 9 years.

Lorie, I saw some cute bras and sports bras in different shades that were marked way down. Of curse black and regular colors were about 3 times as much money. Once I get the basics I would like to add some cute colors. I am 4 weeks post surgery, 5 weeks on Wednesday. It won't be long and I should be able to get a little upper body work in. Sometimes rest is the best thing to keep us healthy and will keep us well. It sounds like you have had plenty of walking.

Deb, I am so sorry that yesterday was not a good day. I understand, Indian reservations have their own laws and ways of doing things. My follow up is the 25th. I am counting the days :) They left me with these little pieces of surgical foam that I am still stuffing in the front of my surgical bra. I am thinking I should call them next week and see f they want me to continue wearing them. I wish the doctors assistant didn't cut them down to 4 inch choppy circles. They show through clothing so if I go out and am not wearing a jacket, I leave them at home. Otherwise I keep wearing them. They were for some repair work I think to add some compression. I am pleased to have found such a good price on the bras. I was dreading the expenditure for all new ones. I went back and found a Calvin Klein one for 26.00 that was wireless so
ordered. I accidentally ordered a Wacoal one in wired. I will have to wait to wear it.

Carolyn, I keep corn dogs and fish sticks around along with Horizons macaroni and cheese for the younger grandchildren. They tend to be hard to feed. The two year old will devour fish sticks and chicken nuggets. I buy gluten free healthier ones from Sprouts. Wednesday dinners my 5 year old grandson sometimes will eat if it is something like the enchiladas. Chicken and rice seems to work most of the time but they tend to want to fill up on the rice. Good luck with that:) I have found my 8 year old granddaughter is more open to new things if she gets to help make it. Grandchildren are always different with the grandparents than they are with the parents.

Valerie, I never think to turn the water off to the refrigerator when we are gone. That is good that you did that. I am glad that you didn't lose too much and that you got the new one that quickly. That is great. That is really odd on the airbag. Hopefully you do not have it go off again. S instead of A is just silly. Who writes those manuals anyway. It is like they think it would be funny to confuse, or maybe hoping you won't find it and spend money taking the car in. I got nude colored and black in the bras right now. There were some that I would have liked to have but they did not have my size. I was a bit limited on that and some only came in colors in my size like purple and leopard that were available right away or not sold out.

I did Sweat cycle, the main workout. I could not get my HRM to work and stopped mid ride to switch to another, but it didn't work either. not sure what's up there. I burned supposedly "2" kilocalories and had a max heart rate of 110. hmmm, not likely.

maybe I'm not increasing resistance as much as you guys are ... but I think this one is easier than the others and the music doesn't make me crazy. I don't like all of it, but better than the others. so funny how we can all have different takes on the same workout.

diane sue, I've never ever had a corn dog. no idea what's in one. They never looked like real food to me , like you'd be eating some sort of stage prop. I've seen but never eaten. I have white balsamic, got it at the regular grocery. in with the standard vinegars. I like it better than the regular balsamic. I think that's too strong tasting and always cut it to maybe 1/4 of what's written. white wine vinegar is a good sub. Yes, who writes the manuals???..... chimes are driving you crazy and won't stop. they never list anything under anything that makes sense.
