Good Morning!

Today I did the first premix on Kelly C-M 30 minutes to Fitness DVD. I like the ones with abs being done during the "rest" times. We were going to see my Dad today but the weather in his area is bad and he said not to go. Maybe next weekend.

Garance, I had a brocoli cheddar omlet with homemade bread toasted..yumm..I also snuck a few bits of Dh's pancakes, and gave him the fried potatoes they insist on giving me! Not too bad. I did not eat the whole omlet either, it is way too much. Of course they put it in a box for me and I forgot it at the restaurant..always happens to me. Yes we probably may, get the STS by Feb 1, but I am not counting on it! Yes, it is time for you to start those dreaded 1RM testing. I tried to do the 5 star ones first, switching back and forth between upper and lower body parts. A word of advice, go as heavy as possible, eg if you use 8's normally try 12's. You only need to do 8 -10 reps and I found that I kept picking up weights that were too light and it wasted a lot of time. Lower body, eg squats were impossible for me to get to a heavy enough weight. I may just add 15 pounds to the weight I did ( 40) and leave it at that.

Joan, good job on the treadmill. I probably asked you this already..do you watch TV while walking? Yes I think it is common to have bladder infestions with a catheter...my Dad had to have one all the time for a while, and a visiting nurse used to come and check it out because of the possibility of infection. He had an operation so that he didn't have to wear it any longer, He still complains about how many times he has to get up at night to pee. Linny probably knows more about this stuff, being a nurse.

Hi to Linny, and Josie!

Off to do laundry and change sheets etc...yuk! I want to read and take a nap~

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, and Joan--

This morning I did Kelly C-M's Cardio Sculpt (70 min.).

That omelette sounds yummy, Deb. I will heed your advice on the 1rms. I'm not sure what to do about the lower body workouts. I just cannot lift over 45 lbs over my head, but I can definitely do that weight for several reps. Maybe I should buy one of those weighted vests?? On the other hand, I hate stressing my knees with very heavy weights.

The motion sensor camera is a big success. DH is thrilled. He gets rid of all the offal from the slaughters back on the land and it just "disappears." Now he knows where it's going--a coyote, an enormous owl with an incredible wingspan, some hawks, two bobcats. Totally awesome pics! Also some deer, but they weren't interested in the innards--obviously.

It's lightly snowing here, but a great deal warmer--24 degrees.

Sounds like your DH, Joan, is at one of the many flashpoints of this terrible recession. I always feel troubled giving out Ds to a student, so I cannot imagine what it would be like to fire someone.

Hi to Josie and Linny!

Good evening ladies,

Today was a rest day.

Deb - I usually listen to books on tape. The last one was one by J.D. Robb (Nora Roberts). I mainly read mysteries by women authors. The J.D. Robb series is set in 2059.

Garance - I got the weighted vest but now I'm thinking I may not want much weight for lower body either.

Hi Linny and Josie.

Monday and I'm tired

Good Morning,

Well no workout, I had to try to get some sleep. The emergency service called me about 9:30 to let me know that my Dad had pressed the button for service, and they were sending the EMT;s and an ambulance. I called his neighbor and she said he had called saying his chest was tight and she told him to call for the EMT's. They took him in, did tests, EKG etc and said he was fine and sent him home around midnight. Of course I did not sleep well after that.

Garance, very scary about the animals wandering around your house at night! Regarding the 1RM and lower body, I have a regular weight bench that has a rack for a BB on it that you can use as a squat rack if you stand with it behind it. Still, I cannot see me putting on more than 60 pounds, so I am going to use that and take 60%, 70, or 80% of it when it comes to calculating the amount to use for each Meso cycle. I am also concerned about knee damage, so I would not go any heavier than that anyway.

Joan, I like Nora Roberts too, but not that series in the future for some reason.

It's about 18 degrees here, a virtual heat wave!

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, and Joan--

This morning I did the horizontal premix on Kelly C-M's Stepboxing (48 min.).

Hope your dad is okay, Deb. Oh, don't worry about the animals! DH would never leave the stuff left from a slaughter around our house. We have 135 acres of land, and much of it is mountainous forest land. He takes the offal way back on our land and set up the camera there because he thought he would definitely get some pics that way. He was absolutely right. All we ever get around the house is some deer when it's too snowy back in the woods, rabbits, foxes running through the pasture, groundhogs in the summer--manageable vermin. I do think, though, that we have lost cats to predators--probably foxes. We used to get the occasional skunk and raccoon, but haven't seen (or smelled!) either in a long time.

I am wondering about the lower body work. It sounds like a lot of people are not going to try to go heavy on legs for a variety of reasons. I'll start testing, but only on upper body, and just wait and see how heavy I want to go on the lower body stuff.

Hi Ladies:
What a day! Worked 6:45 to 4:45 without a break. The joys of the nursing field.Still haven't spoke with Director regarding unit manager job.She was busy last week,so she told me to work days this week and we'll have a talk later in week. Most of staff is friendly and pleasant to work with.
Deb:Sorry hear about your Dad.It must be tough being so far away when something like that happens. We had quite the storm yesterday, about 7 inches during the day and then woke this morning with an additional 4 inches.I'm ready for spring.
Garance:Sounds like your DH is having fun with his new toy.I like to get one for the summer. We have a occasional car break-ins during the summer.Living near the beach we are more theft prone.
JoanC: Deb's right about increase infections with catheter.Just having a foreign object in the bladder can cause infection.Sometimed you have to outweigh the pros and cons of catheter use.Push the fluids especially cranberry juice or lemonade. Some doctors swear by cranberry extract capsules taken daily.
Josie:Hope all is well. How is DD liking college at home?
~Linny~

Good evening,

I got 5 miles on treadmill again today. Weight was up this morning so I will use tomorrow as "official weigh in". It can't be right because I got up late. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Linny - I'm glad staff at new job are nice. Mil is bedridden. When she broke her leg they thought she was not healthy enough to set leg. That was about a year ago. Now they use lift to get her from wheelchair to bed. Besides bladder infection they told her she had infection in bloodstream. She had iv with antibiotics, but while we were there they decided it was leaking and would have to start a new one. She said they had tried 7 times to get the last one.

It's Tuesday!

Good Morning!

Today I did the Biceps, Triceps & Shoulder workout from Kelly C-M with active cardio "rests" between sets. This one can be really tough if you use heavy weights.

Garance, I'm glad those "critters" are far away from your house.....There is a thread on STS forum just about not doing the 1RM for lower body. I have some workout sheets that someone e-mailed me that kind of put the exercises in a circuit type fashion so that you can go through them not doing the same body part close together. If you would like me to send them to you, give me your e-mail address.

Linny, it must be strange working during the daylight hours! Do you think you will stay with this place and the hours? Have you decided about the manager position?

Joan, WOW 5 miles on the TM is great! I bet your weight is water..Sorry to hear about the situation with your MIL.

Josie, how are things with you? Did your workout partner shape up? yuk , yuk!

Stay warm ladies!

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, and Joan--

This morning I did the back, legs, and chest on Kelly C-M's weight DVD plus 2 miles with Leslie (60 min. total).

I'll send you my e-mail, Deb. Sounds like a good idea for me. I saw that thread over at STS forum, and I will probably stick to lower weights than Cathe for lower body. I don't want to risk an injury.

Wow, Linny--10 hours with no breaks?? I thought there were laws against that. How's your DH enjoying 24? So far it's been pretty good IMO.

Joan, How long did it take you to do 5 miles on the treadmill? Leslie has a couple of 5 mile walk DVDs and they go over an hour. Her 4 mile ones stay under the hour.

Just finished watching Obama's inaugural address. Very impressed. Let's hope his actions are as good as his oratory.

Hi Ladies,

I could not get up this morning. I re-reset my alarm to 6:15 and went to sleep.
i don't know why I was so tired. I will try to do my workout this evening or just wait until tomorrow and do ME since I missed PUB today. Tonigh I will be goint to the gym and doing the elliptical for 45 minutes.

My DD is on her second week at LMU and so far she likes it very much. It looks like she will have a full schedule and a lot of homework.

My workout partner showed up late on Sunday and missed about 30 minutes of the workout and when she started to give me her excuses I just ignored her and continued with the work out. She got the hint.

I will check in later.

Josie

Good Afternoon Ladies,

Official weigh-in 167.5lbs. Up a pound and a half. I averaged 1644 calories last week ,the week before averaged 1505. It doesn't seem fair that 139 cal per day would make me gain 1.5lb instead of losing 1/2lb. I thought last week was my best week of exercising since I started again.

The 5 miles is really slow. This time it was 124 minutes. Last time 135 minutes.

Josie good job with wo partner. I hope she decides to start coming on time.

I'll check in later after wo.

Joan

Hi Ladies:
Finally had a meeting with administrator and Director, looks like I'll be taking that unit manager postion. My DH is thrillled to have his wife back on days and I know its better for my health also.I think it will be a good career move.Hope I can get used to working a 5 day work week.I haven't worked 5 days in a row since my mid thirties.Nurses that I have met so far are happy that I might take position(didn't tell them for sure yet).Tomorrow I will give my final answer, just have one more question about holidays if I get them paid since I will be salary.
Deb: Good job with the working out.I haven't worked out monday or tuesday. It's just so hard for me to get up any earlier than 5:30am to work out.Once I start this new position I don't have to be in till 8am so I should be able to work out more often during the week.
Garance:You're right about breaks. We are suppose to take a break after 5 hours of work. But usually meds are passed at noon and then I have been helping aides feed residents their lunch. Then its close to next med pass so its forgotten till my stomach starts to hurt.I watched Obama while I was feeding patients,he seemed kind of nervous saying the oath.
JoanC:Sorry to hear about your MIL's health.Must be hard on your FIL.Maybe you're gaining alot of muscle mass.
Josie: Glad to hear your DD is liking the college.I don't know what I'd do if my son moved to another state.I need to see him a few times a week. He's my baby.Hopefully your workout partner will smarten up.
Have a good night ladies~Linda~

Hump Day!

Morning all......

A very tired morning. DH had a cabinet fall apart and drop on his foot yesterday, so he could not take Keegan to training last night...guess who was elected to sub for him? Did not get home until 9:45..which is waaay past my bedtime. I could not get up to work out. Also punctured my little finger in class trying to keep Keegan from running after another terrier that was on the loose! I grabbed his collar and got stabbed by it! ouchie!

Garance, I hope those charts are helpful. They don't have the stars on them like the Cathe ones, so you don't know which ones are more important to do, but at least they are in a circuit type style making it quicker. I did not watch any of the hoopla yesterday.

Josie, good for you for sticking to your plans regardless of the tardiness of your partner. I hear you on the tiredness! It must be nice having your DD near you now.

Joan, I bet it is water weight...did you eat salty foods?

Linny, it sounds like you have made the decision on the job! Welcome back to the daytime world! Will you start working out in the evenings when you get home with the new schedule?

Have a great day!

Good morning,

I just spent 20 minutes deleting sts wo from my calendar. They have a thread that said you must delete sts from calendar so new wo manager will work correctly. I had scheduled so I could print wo cards. Everytime you deleted one it went back to Jan calendar.

Yesterday wo turned out to be 40 min on treadmill. I don't know why I feel so tired.

I will check in later.

Joan

Good Morning Ladies,

I did my PUB last night. My cardio partner agreed to come to my house and work out with me. She is also my barber. Her dad used to cut my hair before he gave her the barbershop. I only pay $15.00 + $5.00 tip. I tell my DH that he is very lucky because I'm a low maintenance person.

Tonight I will be doing a couple of miles on the elliptical and then take the spinning class.

Joan, I also gained 1.5 pounds this weekend. I thought that I was eating right and woriking out enough to have lost another pound but it did not work. Maybe it's my menopause.

Linny, Congratulations on your day job!

Josie

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, and Joan--

This morning I did Kelly C-M's double kickbox on her new Kickbox dvd (53 min.). I probably should add on the core to this one, if only to see what it's like. Ballroom dancing tonight.

Thanks for the 1rms, Deb. Maybe this will spur me to start doing them.

Gee, all of you sound a bit tired. Winter doldrums? Menopause? Not enough sleep? Stress from work and worrying about those close to you? Sounds like a combination of all these. I almost feel guilty for my sabbatical which has made me complaint-free. Or almost. The weather has been too cold for my taste. Now after crowing a bit, something bad will probably happen.

Linny, that's great news about your job! Since this position is also close to your home, maybe you will be able to work out in the morning and get it done for the day.

Josie, it sounds like your DD is going to be really busy with classes. Does she go anywhere on spring break, or--given where you live--is that just redundant?

Joan, I also wonder whether you aren't just hanging on to some water bloat. Keep up the good work, and maybe your weight will go down suddenly.

Hi Garance,

Since she just turned 18 in October. She will not be going anywhere for Spring break.
We will not be financing any trips to Cancun any time soon. She has a curfew of midnight on Friday and Saturday. I know that she had a lot of freedom when she was in D.C.
but, in L.A. it's a diffrent story.

Josie

Good evening everyone,

Garance you're right. I feel like the end of tax season instead of the start. Usually the adrenaline keeps me going nonstop until April then I am a slug for a month. Kickbox dvd and ballroom dancing, send me some of your energy.

I did finally do GS Back, Shoulders, and biceps.:D

Tomorrow is supposed to be in upper 50's or lower 60's. After mammogram will take mother out to lunch at casino.

Linny or Linda which do you prefer? I agree about son in another state. My baby is in Portland, OR and I usually only get to see him once a year.

Josie I'm trying to believe we can't have gained that fast and everyone is right about water gain. I may start weighing in on Friday. I don't know that I eat that much more over the weekend but it may be more salty.

Deb Hope dh is ok - no broken foot from cabinet.

Joan

Thursday, and almost the weekend!

Good Morning,

I got up late today so no workout. I am really becoming a slug! At least I have stayed away from the sugar treats so I feel ok about that. I have not weighed in though, almost afraid to get on the scale.

Joan, I am not sure if I have STS on my calendar or not..I think I tried printing workout cards a while ago so maybe I do. I will have to go over and check it out.

Josie, this partner sounds more reliable and she can cut hair! What more can you ask for??? LOL:D..yes The Big M as I call it can wreak havoc with your metabolism. I hear you on the Cancun trips for kids..I have been there 3 times during spring break and they are wild..I watch them and think, "what would their parents think if they saw this?"...

Garance, I am so envious of you , not having to go to work! I guess STS ships Jan 27. Just in time for my Florida trip. I will have to put off starting it until I get back.

Joan, good for you for getting that GS workout in. I think you can give yourself a break for tax season, it must be crazy for you. My brother works at H&R Block and sometimes works 12 hour days, sometimes 7 days a week. It ends April 15 and he has the whole rest of the year off. 50's and 60's sound like heaven to me. We were lucky to get into double digits yesterday.

Linny, are you getting adjusted to your new schedule?

Have a great day!

Good Morning Ladies,

I did PLB this morning and will be going to the gym for my cardio. I will do the elliptical for 45 minutes.

Deb, I have been to Cancun during spring break and it was crazy and the things the kids were doing was just discusting. And most of them were under age.

Joan, I don't know what else to do about my weight other that just be happy that I'm at least strong and have no injuries.

Linny, How is the job going?

Garance, Hi!

It is suppose to rain for the next 3 days and it is 60 degrees here in LA.
