Pentagenarians & Beyond: May 18, 2025

Today I did Boss Loops Glutes and Core. That was 54 minutes and 200 calories burned. My average heart rate was 112 and maximum heart rate was 139. It‘s so true that we are totally reliant on our power and technology. Apparently some downed trees were partially responsible for our problems. I learned from someone else that the police had the main road to our neighborhood blocked off and no one could get in.

This morning I went out to buy a new wall oven. Ours wasn’t heating properly over the last week and things were taking twice as long to cook. It needs a new control panel and another part. The repair is half the original price of the current oven so I decided to replace it. We’ve talked before about how things aren’t built to last or to be repaired. I use my oven almost daily so I want something that works!

Valerie, it’s frustrating when you try to live a healthy lifestyle and still develop serious problems. I have to remind myself that I would probably be in much worse shape if I didn’t do my best to be healthy.

Shannon, great job with PHA 3. That one is quite a workout.

Judy, great job with Peloton strength, Peloton walk, and Yin Yoga.

Hello to Cathy and Diane Sue.

had a good ride this morning, an hour and forty minutes. they have whacked down a lot of trees in areas we used to ride, leaving a mess thats not rideable. sometimes they create new roads and its easy to get lost. we are getting the feeling they are trying to discourage bikes. they dont allow electric bikes but a lot of people are ignoring the rule and will ruin it for those of us who follow the rules. this is a really good calorie burner.

judy it will be nice to have it all done and contractors out of the house.
i realize it's totally stupid to expect no health problems because you take good care of yourself, but its still so unfair when it happens! reality check time.
carolyn I ran into problems with a wall oven. mine has acted funny after power outs and due to the size of the opening I dont have any options but another of the same oven. good thing I like whirlpool.

Valerie, my first oven in this house was a Whirlpool and it worked well for over 22 years. When it went out 6 years ago I bought the Frigidaire. The new oven is a Kitchenaid brand, which is owned by Whirlpool.

carolyn i had the first oven , a whirlpool, for several years. (this house was designed to have a wall oven and a separate cooktop). thats GE. it was a combo wall oven/microwave. big mistake. the microwave went out with no way to fix it, so DH and I pulled the whole mess out of the wall and built a nice shelf above the slot for the wall oven and installed a separate circuit for a microwave to sit on the shelf. no way was I buying another combo unit! it turned out very nicely and has storage on sides of the micro for cookie sheets. Ive been thru probably 5-6 microwaves since we bought this house. whirlpool is the only oven that will fit in the existing opening without modifying it. I'm on #3 oven now. this one acted funny after some power outs but then settled down. I gave up on anyone actually fixing anything. I have a KA refrigerator. whirlpool and KA are so similar now. KA usually has a few more features for the higher price.

Today I did Raw Get Up and Move as a warm up & Glute Finisher with fabric loop bands 27 minutes, 134 calories and Jessica Smith Gentle Yoga chest and back 24 minutes, 43 calories. My arthritis doctor gave me methotrexate along with a prescription folic acid. He says if I have problems again, we will try something else.

Good morning, ladies. Yesterday I did Ilaria’s Bodystrikes 1 and LMR lower body balance discs. I always use Bodystrikes as cardio, even though Ilaria says she created them to strengthen and tone the legs. But she does include several balancing moves, so the two workouts complemented each other nicely.

Valerie – I’m glad DH’s BP is under control. My mom landed in the ER once too because of BP. She didn’t know she had high BP, and she thought she was having a heart attack. When I discovered mine, my sister laughed and said, “welcome to the club.” Our whole family has it. I suspect Puss would not be happy if you brought a puppy home, LOL.

Judy – Nice job with your Peloton workouts and yoga. You really do have a good, fast walking pace.

Carolyn – Good work with Boss Loops Glutes and Core. I had high hopes for those workouts as something different but ended up not liking them. Bummer that your oven died. It’s very frustrating that our entire economy has become a “throw away” economy. So wasteful, but it’s all about profits for the companies that make the products. You are absolutely right that we would be in worse shape if we didn’t do our best to be healthy.

Diane – I hope you get some good results from the methotrexate.

Hello to Cathy, and safe travels!

I had an appointment with my primary care doctor this morning, so no workout today. I hate these routine follow up appointments because they seem like a waste of time. Anyway, no problems. The lab tech was out today so I will have to go back for my labs.

Valerie, nice job with the ride.

Diane Sue, great job with Raw Get Up and Move warm up and glute finisher, and JS Yoga for chest and back. I hope the new medicine is helpful.

Shannon, great job with Ilaria’s Body Strikes 1 and LMR lower body balance discs.

Hello to Judy and Cathy.

A ride again this morning, this on road bikes our usual 15 miler. 1 hr 15 minutes. planning on leaving sunday so getting things organized. i like to take a lot of groceries along since after driving 11 hours we dont like to have to drive 60 miles the next day to and from a grocery store.

diane sue good luck with the new meds. i think we have somewhat similar arthritic problems.

Yesterday I did 40 minutes of upper body strength and 10 minutes of core work. Today was active recovery with yin yoga and stretching. I will be working tomorrow and Sunday and am planning on getting a lot of steps in. Next week we meet with the contractor for the ½ bath and will be getting ready for them to start.

Carolyn-Great job with Boss Loops Glutes and Core. I hate follow up appointments too, I agree that they seem to be a waste of time.

Valerie-It will be very nice to have all the contractors out of the house. I am looking forward to that. Great job with your rides.

Diane Sue-Great job with Raw Get Up and Move and Glute Finisher. I hope the medicine works for you.

Shannon-Great job with Bodystrikes 1 and LMR lower body balance discs.

Hi to Cathy

I got back yesterday. Got the car unloaded and things sorted out and dealt with then today I did Lower/Upper Balance Discs before I went shopping. Spent the afternoon doing a bunch of random stuff around the house that needed doing. House wasn't as bad as it could have been, and I've dealt with the stuff that really needed doing. Derek's cat is sort of settling in, but she's definitely unique. Nick is down to just the kitten he's keeping, and will be starting the move to his new apartment Monday.

Carolyn follow up appointments when there's no issue are certainly a waste of time and money if you have co-pays or out of pocket. It's really lousy that they stopped making appliances that last. Still clinging to our 30 year old fridge.

Shannon I ended up going through Little Rock and it was so different than 3 years ago, with a ton of construction. Just drove right on through that area. OTOH don't talk to me about Indy o_O

Valerie I hope you have a smooth drive on Sunday.

Diane Sue that's great that Harvey is adjusting and likes playing with the other dogs.

Judy looks like we'll get a few days of reasonable temps and a bit of sun before the rain comes back mid-week.

Excuse me, but doesn’t Mother Nature know that it’s not supposed to rain on my weekends? I’m stuck inside! Ugh! Yesterday I did STS2 Super Sets Total Body and Abs1 from Ripped with HiiT. I’m getting ready to do Rodney Yee’s Power Yoga.

Carolyn, I’m glad all is well, even though you had to endure that pesky follow-up.

Judy - Yes, it sounds like you will get plenty of steps in!

Valerie - is the kitty going with you?

Cathy- glad you made it back safe and sound. Are you talking about the construction between Benton and Little Rock? Yeah, it’s been going on forever. So glad I didn’t have to mess with it since I’m north.

Shannon, he is staying here and guarding the house. this is not a relaxed trip. we need to do a range of "house things" including spray the driveway. its a big project. the weeds, mostly Russian thistle aka tumbleweed grow fast and nasty. you cannot pull them out even when very small. they grow in gravel and everywhere else and get huge. also cheat grass and various other things but the main one is tumbleweed. hate to use it.... but glyphosate. we have a cart with a sprayer that we pull behind the car and spray the whole driveway, side to side 1/4+ mile long. DH sits in the tailgate and sprays while I drive. its an unpleasant job but if we dont, need an industrial mower to come later in the season and mow the weeds down. we are late on the spraying. its best to spray when they are young and small. it takes two people.
our next door neighbor is selling and moving and we need to visit with him. our other neighbors are expecting tomato plants from us that we will deliver . plus we are hoping to walk a little and ride a little. DH has to be back here for an appt on the 3rd. we decided this was not a good trip to try and include Puss so he will be bored but will have plenty of space to roam in the basement with many windows to sit in.
