Pentagenarians and Beyond W/B May 24

Hi...

Garance, Joan, ...another way I was thinking to add weight for STS squats etc, is to kind of drape ankle weights over your shoulders, before putting the bar on. I have 5 pound ankle weights that could add 10 pounds when draped over my shoulders. I haven't tried it yet, but will this weekend.

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, and Joan--

This morning I did 5 miles with Leslie (75 min.)

Deb, are you going to wrap those leg weights around your armpits? That sounds like something from I Love Lucy. How about gallon cans duct-taped on your arms? Sorry--I'm just trying to visualize, and I know my DH would start laughing at me if I did something like this. Hey--whatever works! I did order my weighted vest, weighted gloves, and regular weight-lifting gloves yesterday, so I have some extra weight for meso 3.

Joan, tomorrow is my cleaning day, but 3 1/2 hours is all I can do or I start to feel like a martyr and candidate for sainthood. Elliot sounds like a very smart 2 1/2 year-old if she can follow directions as well as children twice her age. My sons were more "terrible twos" than tractable--NO was their favorite word.

I guess we are going out to dinner tomorrow night. Since next weekend is graduation and the following weekend is the alumni weekend, there's no way we would be able to get in anywhere for 3 weeks, so it's this weekend or wait for 3 weeks to go out.

Hi to Linny and Josie!!

Hi Ladies,

I did not get a chance to post yesterday because I was still busy cleaning up stuff that came through when I was on vacation. Also, my DD started working in my departmet for the summer and I had to show her around. She will be working 30 hours per week at $12.79 per hour. She will need it since she now has a car payment to make.

Thank you Ladies for your prayers and good thoughts for my DS. He will be gone for 6 months and will be going to Iraq. His oldest DS is already acting up, asking if his DD is going to pick him up from school. I will try to pick him up more often and keep him entertained while my DS is gone.

Yesterday I went with my walking partner to her new trainer's gym, they told me that I could try it for 2 week for free, so I have nothing to loose. I still think that it is a bit expensive, but if in 2 week I see good results I might re-think joining . I have some madd money save up from my trips to Las Vegas.

I will be going to the same gym tomorrow and doing 1 spinning class and on Sunday I will just spin.

Deb, you can also wrap the anke weights on the bar.

Have a nice weekend!

Josie

Saturday

Good Morning,

I did not do any workout today, I knew my body ( more my mind) would resist, since Saturday is my normal rest day and I could not foget that! DH and I went out for breakfast instead....it's very cool here, and with the recent rain, I should really be out weeding...mmm..weeding, sitting here with coffee....decisions, decisions...;)

Garance, I lol when I read your question about wrapping the ankle weights around my arm pits.... I was thinking I could drape one over each shoulder, they are pretty long. they are the big black ones. Once draped, I would lift the 40 pound bar over and end up with 50 pounds for squats. I will let you know how it goes.

Josie, what type of training does this expensive trainer do?

Hi to Joan, Linny & Cathy..

Good morning,

Deb I like the idea of the ankle weights on wrist or arm. It seems it would be faster to put on/take off than weighted goves.

Josie I didn't think about wrapping around bar- good idea. I hope trainer helps but I found my trainer wasn't any different than a Cathe dvd. The only benefit was I always kept my appointment and exercised. She also made me do all reps but Cathe does too. Other dvd's I've used don't seem to make me finish the last 1 or 2 reps.

It rained in the night but I hope I can get some yard work done today.

I finished disc 10 last night.

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, Joan, and Cathy--

This morning I slept in--my day off, like Deb. Cleaned house all morning and will do some writing this afternoon.

DH is beginning to grouse about the weather. He wants to cut hay, but needs a 3-day window of dry weather, and he is not getting it. It's still very cool and rainy here and there might even be a frost on Monday night. Cannot seem to get into the 70s here.

Because of budget cuts here at the college, no summer jobs for children of faculty and staff. Josie, you are lucky to be able to find summer work for DD. The summer jobs here were really great for my sons. You will have to keep us up on the new trainer you will be working out with. I have never done this--always work out at home since the early 80s, when I used to go to a Jazzercise class 3 times a week.

Good luck, Deb, on your improv work with the ankle weights. I will have all of my new equipment by Tuesday according to the tracking number I received.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend ladies!
