Paying it forward

Since there's been lots of talk on this subject, thought I'd pass along this article for those who haven't seen it:

HOLLAND, Mich. (AP) - The City of Holland wants make a difference locally and across the country with its "Pay It Forward" campaign.

The southwestern Michigan city launched "Pay It Forward Holland" on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and it's been growing since then. The effort aimed at inspiring acts of kindness began with the distribution of dozens of $25 gift cards that are numbered so their use can be followed.

Since then, organizers have distributed more than 6,700 "Pay It Forward Holland" cards aimed at tracking good deeds. Requests have come in from 13 states.

The effort got going when Ramona L. Scott of Brooklyn, N.Y., donated $250 after reading media coverage about Holland's high quality of life. The city then started the Ramona L. Scott Paying it Forward Fund.

Thanks! What a wonderful way to encourage people to help others. My family was the beneficiary of a pay it forward! Knowing my brother, he's already returned it many times in other ways! Sometimes it seems so contrary to the new "American Way" to help someone anonymously or with nothing expected in return. Glad to see something even better!
