Do I remember correctly that there was a group of Catheites using p90x on this forum? I can't seem to find the recent thread. I just received my p90x - oh my!!! A little overwhelmed to say the least! How are you all doing it? Diet, supplements, workouts to the letter? Can I just start using the workouts and not worry about all the other stuff? What about the Beachbody forums? I want to make sure it's worth it before I dive in. Thanks for whatever insight you can send my way...any chance we can get a p90x check in going??

I think the Rut Busters are done with the rotation. There are still a lot of tough gals here doing it, though. I just started Phase III on Monday...

I am not following the diet, I am folowing an eating plan from Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle...basically 20-30-50 or 20-40-40. In other words...clean eatin'! I am not taking any of their supplements or shakes, bars and whatever. I try to avoid all foods that come in a wrapper!:D

Hi There,

I am doing phase 1, week three of the Classic rotation. It is different but is a great program. I don't use diet supplements and I just eat clean, but don;t follow any restrictive diet. I am not training for competition just for fun and to get lean. I use protein powder on my oatmeal for breakfast, right after my workouts, but I buy Whey Protein at Costco. I still think that Cathe is more fun but P90X is a great program.

Hi Kerrie,

While I admit getting the whole P90X box with all the stuff in it can be intimidating, once you dive in that will pass.

I'm finishing up the first phase of the Classic rotation. I'm continuing on with my regular way of eating (it most closely resembles the Zone program of a 40-30-30 split between protein, carbs, and fats. I am trying to clean it up since I have been a bit lax with the sweets and candy for the past couple of weeks. So far, so good, my muscle development is noticeable after only 3 weeks. I'm not doing the rotation exactly as it's written. For example, I am substituting in other cardio workouts and other ab workouts (I can only handle Ab Ripper X so many times before it starts to bug) from time to time just to keep things fresh.

I'm not using any of beachbody's supplements. I take a multi vitamin cocktail, and add in glucosamine/chondroitin, alpha lipoic acid, and addition fiber in capsule form.

I'm not using the beachbody forums so I can't comment about that.

The only insight I can offer is to be prepared to be pretty sore the first few times doing the workouts. Even though I have been doing Cathe almost exclusively for 2 years and thought I was in really good shape, these workouts are challenging and you will feel them. Tony says to pace yourself and it's GOOD advice for these workouts. Have extra pain reliever around and realize that it's going to hurt in the beginning.

If a check in develops, I'll try to join in. Life is nuts and sometimes it's hard to comment to one more thing.

Hi Kerrie -

I finished the P90X Lean Rotation a few weeks ago, and definately noticed more muscle definition in my upper body, as did others who hadn't seen me in a few months.

P90X is a great program, but I did substitute Cathe sometimes for the "fun factor."

I started doing the nutrition program suggested for P90X, but for some reason had trouble sticking with it. I seemed to be very hungry when I started the program, but I think that's normal when you start a new program like that. Basically, I just tried to eat clean.

And yes, I experienced DOMS for quite a while when I started the P90X program, even though I worked out to Cathe regularly and considered myself fit.

Stick with the program. I think you'll really like it.

I did a P90X rotation last year, and will probably do one agin. I didn't get the supplements or other crap, but I did check out the macronutrient (protein/carbs/fat) breakdown of their "recovery drink," and found that a soy meal replacement drink that I use is about the same, so I drank that after all the weight workouts.

I did the "Classic" rotation. The "lean" rotation seemed rather incomplete to me, as each week you skip one body part.

My "90 day" rotation ended up being about 100-110 days instead: I added more rest days, sometimes did a supplementary cardio day. I ended up skipping Ab Ripper about as often as I did it, but I still had great ab results.

I visited the forums a couple of times to ask questions, but it seemed like no one with actual answers (or more than I could figure out myself) answered.

The first two weeks, I REALLY needed more sleep! About an extra hour a day. If you are considering doing the "doubles" rotation with extra cardio, I recommend not doing it until week 3 or so (though I think the extra cardio might not actually kick in until week 2 or 3?). Otherwise, you can overdo.

When I got P90X, I previewed all the workouts, and I was SOOO intimidated by Chest/Back that I put it on my shelf and "forgot" about it for several weeks. Then one day I decided to jump in, but I started with Shoulders and Arms, which looked let intimidating, but fun. That worked well, and I continued the rotation from there.

Thanks for all the info and encouragement, ladies. I'm going to do the fit test tomorrow - I'm kind of curious where I'm at - and will start the program on Sunday. I think I will do doubles since I'm a cardio junkie and twice a week in the classic rotation will not cut it for me. But I will probably not add the extra cardio until the third week, like you suggested, Kathryn. I'll check in once I begin and maybe we can get a thread going. I'm curious about how you all fit Cathe in and what substitutions you made. I'd like to throw in a run once or twice a week, too. OMGsh, what am I saying????

Hi Kerrie! I completed P90X Classic rotation last year but have since incorporated both P90X & HC's into my rotation. The Beachbody forums are fantastic! Three women you definitely need to check out their threads & participate in are: absmom (Dawn), Traci Morrow (foodnazi) & the newest one Dixie Belle (Lisa). Their results are nothing short of AMAZING! Dawn is the nutritionist guru & extremely knowledgeable. You should join in all 3 of these threads & ask any questions that you may have. You can ask the Fitness Advisors.

For supplements I'm taking the Activit Fat Burning vitamins from Beachbody as well as their Performance tablets. I use Isopure protein shakes only occasionally. You should go through the nutritional binder thoroughly.

These workouts ROCK! I did strictly a P90X Classic rotation for 12 weeks & saw a lot more definition. But to tell you the truth, I don't think I could have done P90X w/out doing Cathe's workouts first. JMO. HTH, Kathy:D

PS: Kerrie, I substituted a Cathe kickboxing DVD in place of Kenpo (just couldn't get into this one). However, I did stick w/Plyo X for the 12 weeks (it grows on you). I didn't find Legs & Back very beneficial to my legs so you can also substitute any one of Cathe's leg workouts. Good luck! I'll check in w/you next week as I'll be starting on Saturday Chest & Back.}(

Thanks, Kathy! I love to hear about everyone's experience using p90x. I have looked on the Beachbody forums but they are so different from Cathe's that I'm having trouble navigating them. I'm sure I'll get used to it, and will keep an eye out for those threads you mentioned. So you like the supplements, huh? Honestly, I don't do anything right now - not even vitamins. I do try to maintain adequate protein intake through my diet and lots of veggies and fruits, but that's it. I'm thinking with the intensity of the p90x rotation, I may need to rethink that, huh? I just really don't do well when I have to obsess about every little thing I put in my mouth - the workouts are consuming enough! But maybe I will spend a little time looking through their supplements and see if anything appeals to me. Thanks again - I'll look forward to checking in with you all next week (it'll keep me motivated, too!)

Kerrie

btw, the tried the first 40 or so minutes of Plyo X after PLB today, just to get a feel for it. I liked it! It's a really different type of cardio. And I agree, I don't think I would have done nearly as well if not for Cathe's IMAXes and Boot Camp! Thanks, Cathe!!!!

Hi Kerrie! In order to view the threads, you have to click on diet & support on the home page. That's where all their different programs come up. Click on P90X & then scroll down until you find absmom, Traci Morrow & Dixie Belle. But be warned, on Traci's thread its already up to 33 pages!! LOL Traci has a challenge going on for everyone to be accountable for their eating habits & she's making sure everyone's working out too. Also, please register into WOWY & you can check out & talk to all the other people that workout at the exact same time as you. Its pretty cool!! Yeah I just knew you'd like Plyo X!! Kathy:D

i'm doing p90x... well... hubby and i are!

we are doing the classic.. but we still ride our bikes in the evenings after work and weekends... we set up day one so that saturday (usually the longest/hardest bike day) is p90x rest day!

we just finished week 3, phase 1... it's interesting.. i like the program and i'm looking forward to week 1, phase 2 and some different workouts added in.

my biggest worry was yoga cuz i never liked it.. so i never did it... it's my biggest dread factor.. not cuz i can't do it.. i can except for the crane! lol! i just don't enjoy it like i do other stuff! but i do it.. *sigh*

my second "fear" is boredom from doing the same workouts over and over for 3 months.. i'm one who mixes it up a lot with cathe.. but i'll do it.. only 2 months and 1 week to go!

if you are a cathe-ite you should have no problems.... i breezed through the fit test thanx to cathe (except pullups.. couldn't do one and still can't do one unassisted.. grrrrrrrrrrrrr) i actually did better on the fit test than hubby cuz i do workout and he had just been riding!

i tried their diet for 2 days... i couldn't get up to 50% protein without adding fat! since then i've gone back to the way i know how to eat.. which is clean eating/south beach.. but i took it back to phase 2 vice phase 3 i had been eating in... the one thing we added was whey protein.. hubby had been at me for a while to get some.. so we did.. i have to add more carbs on big bike weekends... but do good during the week with normal smaller rides (i guess we do a modified "doubles" but use biking instead of cardioX and started it in phase 1 instead of phase 2) when i check reports on my program... i'm somewhere around 40-40-20... but the 40 carbs are all coming from veggies and fruit, etc....

i don't buy any of beachbody's supplements.... (i already take one-a-days, omega 3, glucosamine/chondroitin and calcium)

i read beach body's forums.. but haven't made my own check in... i have posted maybe 5 times on others threads... i like checking in here, at ya ya's or VF better!

we did take before pics and will take 30, 60 and after photos!

p90x is definitly worth it.. even without the supplements and their diet (as long as you eat clean)!

have fun!!!!

cute work out clothes are good for AT LEAST an additional 10-15 calories burned!

Hi Kerrie,

P90X is worth it!

I did the exercise portion P90X Classic rotation from 11/04-2/05 pretty much as the guide said - I did sub a different kickbox workout for KenpoX. Like Kathryn's experience, my rotation probably went a lttle longer than 90 days as I was skiing quite a bit at the time. I really didn't follow the nutrition guide (HOLIDAYS }() or supplements. I was very happy with the results that I made regarding strength and muscle gains. I just atarted another Classic rotation this week.

Go for it, you won't be disappointed. :)
