In case anyone is interested - I was in Costco yesterday and saw they had P90X for $99.99!

Thanks,
Kathy

There was a HUGE thing in the news and from Tony Horton about Costco selling pirated copies of P90X. i guess people were reporting to Tony when Costco was selling them. He was very PO'd.

Just and FYI..

There was a big thread on VF about Costco and P90X. As far as we could tell, Tony never offered any proof that the copies at Costco were pirated.

Tony made a bunch of claims that P90X DVDs are not available from anyone but BB, but we know that you can buy P90X from a number of other sources. He eventually did back down from his claim that Costco was acting unethically, said he was too hasty, etc. I never heard what happened after that. There were a number of people on the VF thread who mentioned they were accused of selling pirated copies by BB who got their selling privileges revoked by Ebay, even though they were selling legitimate DVDs.

There was a recent thread about a news story discussing counterfeit fitness items being sold that looked legitimate and one of the them was P90x. The 'expert' in the news story said the easiest way to avoid buying counterfeit items is to not purchase them from vendors & sites who are not authorized retailers. Ebay, Amazon, Craigslist & Costco are not authorized BB retailers, even for Coaches.

I'm very sorry that some legitimate home fitness users who wanted to sell their unwanted BB dvds were hassled for posting them on ebay, but given how many pirated copies are sold on ebay, I'm not sure how BB can tell the difference between a legitimate re-seller and a bootleg seller.

IMO, ebay can do a much better job screening for bootlegs. Descriptions of workout programs as the "overseas version" would be a big red flag to ebay, don't you think? Even their "feedback" system is not that reliable.

If he/Beachbody didn't authorize Costco to sell them, wouldn't they be pirated copies?

My thinking on the term "pirated" is that they are copies and not the original. I thought Costco has come out and said that is not the case. I think Tony went just a little overboard in his posturing about the whole situation. It probably drove more people to Costco:eek:!
