P90X frustrations

I was SO PSYCHED to start this program, and now that I have it's a very bumpy ride.

First, even though Beachbody shipped it December 19 (ON TIME!), my P90X arrived late - Colorado got hit by a couple blizzards and everything was delayed. DH chose the express upgrade, hoping it would get here by Christmas. It didn't, of course, so I got pumped up for a Jan. 1 start date. It finally arrived Jan. 3rd, and THEN I decided I'd better start on a Monday. (Thinking my Monday and Friday spin classes would match up better with upper body workouts in case I wanted to tack on cardio.)

I started Monday, and C&B went fairly well. I did, however, SNAP my green dyna-band in 2, trying to rig up something similar to the band option in the DVD. Luckily, the long end snapped toward the door instead of my head!

Tuesday (as soon as I placed an order for a pull-up bar and bands!) I did PlyoX, enjoyed it, but didn't feel like I had 100% energy. In fact, I've felt like that all week. I pulled a muscle in my shoulder after sleeping on the couch with DD Tuesday night (she's 5 and had a bad migraine), so Shoulders and Arms was out of the question. I ended up going to spin class yesterday and today, still lacking in some energy but my neck is better.

I don't know if my energy level is due to the 50p/30c/20f plan - those low carbs may be getting to me. I decided to shoot for 50c/30p/20f or maybe 40/40/20 instead ... but they really make it sound like if you don't follow everything to a T, it won't work. I've been going to bed early, which usually has me up and rarin' to go at 5am but even with extra sleep have not been able to get out of bed before 6:30.

I felt so great in December and loved every workout I did, I was so ready to do this!!!

Should I start from Day 1 all over again? Wait and see if I get some energy back? If I keep my calories at 1800 but change the ratios, will I still have results? Am I becoming obsessive and overthinking this??? :)

I need some P90X love ...

Dayna,

There are several checkins for people doing p90x rotations on the checkin forum. I participate in the X'ers one and if it wasn't for the check in, I think a lot of us would have been very frustrated too. The low carbs can cause low energy, plus the workouts in themselves are a shock. Some of us are following the eating plan and others aren't. I'm not. Some of us have had injuries too and worked through them in various ways depending on the injury and the severity. Come over and visit or lurk. You can get some tips on how we have positively survived the rotation. I think we all would say that we're getting excellent results and we've all had our good and bad days.

Hi Dayna,
I don't follow the eating plan and am still getting good results. I would wait until your shoulder is 100% and start from Day 1. Also wait to start until you have your new band. Don't sweat it -- Jan 1st is just like any other day of the year, you don't have to start then. Just think -- the further past January 1, that you start, the closer to summer you will be wrapping up and showing off your results!

Calm down, take a few deep breaths.:7

Life sometimes acts that way, just deal with it.;-) Now, when your shoulder/problems are much better, then start all over again. I don't know about the eating, because I do my own thing there.

I'm in the same boat as you, in getting started with my exercises. I caught a cold after all my preperations...blah,blah,blah will have to start all over again when my body will allow me to. I'm almost there. I'm excited that my cold is almost gone so I can enjoy my plans. Heck, it is still the beginning of January, and didn't waste too much time.

Hope that helps, and know you are not alone.

Janie

The idea is to die young as late as possible.

(breathing calmly in and out) Okay, okay I'm feelin' the love.

Catherine - I will "do my best and forget the rest!" I'm so used to "Double-knot your laces" and "Jump higher!" ... I have to memorize some new mantras.

Tracy - maybe joining the check-in is just what I need. Especially since P90X is all I've been thinking about for weeks!

You are right, Monica! January 1st is just another day of the year - how true. Thank you for letting me know you're getting good results. I'm usually more concerned with the fitness aspect, I need to focus a wee bit less on the diet. I love recording strength gains in my journal. It's much more rewarding.

Okay, Janie, I'm calm. And not "glad" we're in the same boat, but happy I'm not the only one! We'll start again and bring it, right?!

Hi Dayna!

I just wanted to second the recommendation to wait until your shoulder is better. I am in week 6 of P90X and I injured my shoulder around the second week or so (I've injured it off and on for years from lifting). It slowed me down and I ended up doing pulldowns until the first recovery week instead of using the pullup bar. I'm completely healed now but I did have to take it a bit easier for a bit. Better if you start off all healed than to have to start off making modifications. It's so exciting in the beginning anyway, like a new relationship. So don't be bummed that you still have that to look forward to! ;)

Good luck and HAVE FUN!

I had to start the program a week later than originally intended and it aggravated me a bit but I am now at the end of week 1 and LOVING it! It's worth the wait! Have fun! :+
