p90x for fat loss

If I'm trying to lose weight, would doing a round of P90X be a good idea? I always put it off for a "one day" because it seemed like you needed to be in good shape already to do it. Then I tried CLX, and that seemed like the same thing, and most the people that like CLX are already in good shape. Same with STS. But P90X can probably bring my fitness level up the quickest to do these other programs, right?

I was thinking of doing the doubles rotation anyway since it focuses on everything I want to improve- strength, flexibility, and if I add in the extra cardio I'll have that covered. If I keep a mostly clean diet with calories around 1500-1600, would I lose weight with P90X or would I cause my body to hold on to it's fat?

IMO, P90X is better at muscle and strength building than fat loss, but you could try doing the doubles rotation, and choosing a higher rep count for the weight work where you have a choice (15-16 reps per set, for example). I think that might work for you (if you watch the diet).

I didn't lose weight but experienced fat loss and leaning out with the X. I really had only a few pounds I though I might want to lose at most though. On the other hand, I know folks who did have weight to lose and the X helped them lose it. I think it's worth a shot for sure. It's an excellent program! :)

I hate to say it, but the only way you'll know if P90X works for you is to try it. Different people get different result with weights vs cardio, etc. I will say to start with the Classic rotation the first three weeks as P90X takes a lot out of you if you do it correctly. Adding extra cardio may actually backfire on you by making you too hungry. (It may not - but let your body get used to the weight work first).

Lost Weight

I lost 30lbs doing P90X. I went thought the classic program and maintained clean eating (1700 -2000cal). I lost fat and looked a lot stronger. You don't have to be in good shape to do it. I definitely was not ;-)

In the begining you will not be able to do the workouts like they do on the video. Unless of course, you are already as fit at they are. But don't worry, they show you a lot of ways to modify the moves until you can workout as intense as they do. Just stick to it until you can go through the videos smoothly.

I would say work the classic program for 60s day as strict as you can. Really, the most important thing is that you eat as cleanly as possible and stick to it. I think the eating part just as important if not more than your workout.
