P90X diet and other ?s

I just recieved my P90X yesterday- I am so psyched, but I am reading through all the information before I start my rotation so I can try to get the most out of it.
A few questions though.
How many people are following the diet strictly? It is great that it is mapped out and with recipes.
How many people bought any supplements? They look like good supplements, but I don't think I am going to buy them since I am not a professional athlete and I will probably not see a major difference by using them. I do use protein powder and protein bars though and when I run out of mine, I may try theirs. I will continue my daily multivitamin and not go for theirs since it is 6 tabs!
next question, do I need a mat for the pylometrics? I have a carpeted area and have good shoes so I was just going to see how it goes with that alone.

I've used one recipe from it, but other than that, I don't follow their diet at all. I just try to eat a clean, whole-foods vegan diet.

>How many people bought any supplements?
Not me! I DO use a substitute for their "recovery drink." A chocolate soy energy drink (Power Dream) that I like has about the same macronutrient (protein/fat/carb) breakdown as their Recovery drink, plus vitamins and minerals, so I have one of those after I workout.

I would highly suggest using a mat. I have a wooden floor, but I use puzzle mats that I bought at Home Depot. I just saw that my local Walmart also carries them in packs of 6 (two packs would work best: I find that a surface that is 3 mats deep by 4 mats wide works well).

Thanks for the response Kathyrn. I will probably head to walmart to get the puzzle mats.
One more question. How many people did the fit test, took before measurements, and took before pictures.
I am actually thinking about doing this so I can see the results objectively.

I bought their recovery drink & protein bars. I'm a sucker. The recovery drink was a rip off. I drank it about twice. It tastes good, but to me it just seams like a whole lot of extra calories and it's not that high in protein - I think it had 10 grams a serving.

The protein bars were pretty good and reasonably priced, but I don't think they are really better than any you can buy at the grocery or health food store.

I tried the diet as written for two weeks. The first week I lost 3 pounds, mostly water retention. The second week, I gained a pound back. The third week, I modified the portion sizes to decrease calorie intake. Eating well supported my workouts but to lose weight required a balance and less calories. I also modified the meals a bit because I was spending too much time in the kitchen. I have not lost anymore weight. Actually, I'm back where I started. I like the recipes. I was working on a clean diet prior to starting this plan, but I've had a lot of set backs. The consistency of staying on this plan has forced me to establish a habbit. I will continue to work towards eating better. eventually I hope my body will find a happy medium. Everything in due time.

I didn't buy the supplements. I take a multivitamin and glucosamine. I use protein powder, protein bars and the recovery drinks.

I have carpet in my workout room. I do use a mat for plyo x.

Goodluck

Hi Laxlover2! I'm into my 6th week of P90X. I didn't buy any of their supplements. I do use, however, Emergen-C w/glucosamine as my recovery drink. It replaces all of my electrolytes. I also take a multivitamin pill & Ester C for my gums, teeth, skin & hair. I eat very clean 5 small meals a day. I don't see any reason for buying any of their supplements. P90X is not a weight loss program. Its very intense & you'll need to eat more. Also, please track your every day meals through Fitday.com to try to come as close to the ratios that Tony Horton wants you to for each phase. HTH, Kathy:D

I started a vegetarian diet a week before I started P90X. I have been strict with my diet and have lost 18 lbs. I am in my 9th week of P90X Doubles rotation. I give credit for my results to this rotaion and eating clean although vegetarian is not an easy diet for people to follow. I don't use the recovery drink either but I have a smoothie after I workout with fruit, 1T ground flaxseed, soymilk and soy protein powder. Sometimes I use whey protein powder also that I got from Beachbody. I know protein is good for muscle recovery. I have always taken vitamins so that's the same. I do Plyometrics on my carpet without any problem. There are also modifications if you have knee issues. Good shoes are important too...get ready for an intense workout rotation!!! Good luck...:)...Carole

vegetarian is not an easy diet for people to follow.

Why do you say that? It may be more difficult for some, if they don't like cooking, but it's not all that hard (I've been doing it since 1976).

Once again Kathryn just my personal opinion...I am getting the feeling you really don't like me....:)....Carole

Carole, it's not you I dislike, it's generalizations ("people") and lack of detail (what is difficult about it?) that I don't like. ;-)

I do understand that Kathryn, but people are human and sometimes don't say all the details and many people use generalizations...I don't feel it is right to nitpick them every time. Since you have done it to me a few times, I would like to ask you as one considerate human being to another....please stop nagging on my posts...thank you...:)...Carole

Carole, I didn't realize you were the same person from other posts (and I don't know what other posts you're refering to...I like clarification, so I'm sure I've "nitpicked"--as you say-- other posts by other people as well.) I will attempt to avoid responding to your posts in the future.
