P90X, Barry's Bootcamp and Cathe

Hi, being in Europe I've never tried or seen the P90X series or Barry's Bootcamp, only read references to them. I was wondering what people thought of them and which one they preferred or which one they felt was the more challenging, and how they compare to Cathe? thanks in advance for any feedback.

I haven't tried P90X, only because it's probably way to advanced for me at this time. I did Barry's Bootcamp, got wonderful results and felt great. It was challenging and wasn't drawn out, 30 min. of weights, 30 min. of cardio. I especially liked it because there wasn't alot of twisting and turning. I felt it was low impact, although some modification was needed, as all workouts usually do need some modification.

I love Cathe's workout style. She makes working out fun and tough and always tries improving her workouts so that everyone is basically happy. She is wonderful, and as soon as I have a little extra money, I am going to buy her newest series. I probably won't have monies in time for the pre-order sale and will end up having to pay full price :( but I have a really good feeling based on previous dvd's that it will be worth it. I sometimes use other instructor's dvd workouts, when I need to change it up, because Cathe also recommends cross-training your body, so it doesn't plateau.

Well, there's my 2 cents, hope it helps:)

Well, it depends - what are you looking to accomplish? P90X is all about building muscle. If you want to lose weight, it's probably not the way to go, but if you want to gain strength and definition - then that's the one.

BBC is more eduranced based and less heavy, so if you're looking to maintain muscle but lose weight, then this is a good choice - and I'm not sure what Carrie meant about BBC not being high impact - if you do the cardio - it's all very high impact. But short. I guess you could modify, though. I find Cathe's leg work more challenging, but I can see BBC as a good plateau buster. Something completely different to confuse the body into shedding pounds.

Cathe offers more of a mix. All three can be challenging - but if you like the high quality sets and matching outfits, etc of Cathe's workouts, then stick with Cathe. Both P90X and BBC are like working out with the boys - regular clothes, darker gym settings.

I have all three and use them at different times.

I don't own P90x. I own and love most of Cathe's workouts. I can do the Imax's without modification. BBC non treadmill cardio is tough, tough, tough in my opninion. I would actually prefer to do an Imax over some of the BBC non-treadmill cardio's b/c I had to really do a lot of self-talk to finish the second half of some of them. I like, have used, and will continue to use BBC at various times. I find them as challenging as Cathe. With BBC you could heavy up the weight and do less reps to gear it more towards strength b/c they are off count anyway. The production is nothing like Cathe, but has a live, gym feel and I like that a couple of the participants look like they are going to die themselves at various points of the workouts. I will keep BBC and find it very beneficial, accomplishing a lot in an hour or less. One drawback is it's very short on stretching.

Quickly replying while my dh packs the car for the drive home....

As long as you can pass P90X's fit test, you can do the rotation based on your goals. The fit test can be downloaded online. Weights are selected based on what you can lift for 6-8 reps (increasing strength) or 12-15 reps for definition. The Lower body workout is high reps/bodyweight or low weights. They show modifications for cardio, assisted pull/chin ups, and bands instead of weights.

My dh bought the X back in March 07. Surprisingly, I passed the fit test since I could barely do any of Cathe's advanced workouts!!! I decided to do a classic rotation with him.

During Phase 1, I lifted 12 to 15 reps. Then I decided to not waste my time and lift to increase strength. I'm so glad I did. I got much stronger. Cathe's advanced workouts are much easier!!! That's saying a lot coming from someone who couldn't even do the warm up in Basic Step Jan. 2007!

I didn't gain any weight. I may have lost a couple of pounds, but I ate a ton!!! My thighs and waist measured smaller. I can see the difference in how my body looks. My legs looked great! (But, my tush didn't look as great as it does from some of Cathe's lower body workouts.) I know my body fat% went down as my breasts are slightly smaller.

I'm taking a break from the X and using Cathe instead. I used Cathe's endurance and circuit workouts to prepare for the Roadtrip. Soon, I'll use Cathe's SL and GS series lifting as heavy as I can until her new series is released. I'll probably do another X round in November with my Xer checkin buddies. You're welcome to join us!

I was going to do BBC. I forget why I decided to pass on getting it. I think it was because I had a lot of Cathe dvds I wanted to do. Also, I'm not a huge fan of puke my guts out cardio. For some reason, I got that impression. I'm probably wrong about it.

Okay, dh is tap tapping his foot.

i finished all the dvds of barry's bootcamp and was a little disappointed. i only felt doms in my tris, nowhere else. the cardio was very tough but i didnt like how he uses so many risers on the bench. i do p90x 13 week rotation then cathe one month and alternate. i give his upper body and core an a+++ and cathe a+. cathe is better for lower body and cardio except for p909x plyox.
