Ovulation Kits

I was wondering what you all think of these kits on the market to detect when one is ovulating. I know some of you are using the method prescribed in the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility (hope that's the correct title!), but I want to know about any thoughts you have about these kits/tests. Any info would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hi Teresa,
If you have a semi regular cycle, ovulation kits are pretty reliable, but it only shows if you are ovulating at the time you take the test not if you've ovulated or when you are going to ovulate. I threw money away on these kits as my cycles were so irregular, I always missed the time I was ovulating. You may want to try a kit one month along with temp. charting. Good luck.

As long as you follow the directions precisely, I believe they work. The test detects a hormone produced just before ovulation. The first month I decided to chart temps and use the OPK, I got pregnant (it was the second month of ttc). I was skeptical when the OPK indicated I was about to ovulate the very first time I used it but I decided it had to be working. And it did. My cycle is pretty regular, though. Also, I bought a drugstore brand, not the more expensive name brands. Good luck!

Thanks for the responses. We'll see if I found success with the tests. If not I am going to have to look into this temperature charting deal. I have no idea what this entails! Will I need the TCOYF book to figure it all out?? Obviously I don't have a clue!

Definitely I recommend charting your temperature and cervical fluid. I used the OPK to supplement my charting. There are a couple of places online you could check out: fertilityfriend.com and babycenter.com are two places I went to for info.
