OT -- Mogambo, I'm a Tarheel Mom!

Hey Liane (and UNC Tarheels fans) --

Just wanted to let you know the happy news that my son Alex will be a freshman at UNC-Chapel Hill in August. :) We just got confirmation that his deposit was received and he's official! We're so thrilled for him and so proud of him!

UNC has been on Alex's "Top Three Wishlist" since his first visit there his junior year, and he was thrilled to be admitted, especially because it's so tough for an out-of-state kid and an Atlanta kid to boot (a TON of Atlanta kids apply). When all the admissions letters were in, he narrowed his finalists to UNC, UVA and U-Michigan, and then it became just UNC and UVA neck and neck. He couldn't decide and I was no help -- I'm a UVA alum and my dad went to UNC. :) So a couple of weeks ago we went to UNC for an "admitted students day" and were supposed to drive up to Charlottesville that night for an identical program at UVA the next day. It was a perfect spring day in Chapel Hill and the campus and town were in bloom and absolutely spectacular. DH and I had a really fun day doing the "parents" program and Alex went off with the kids. At the end of the day when he met back up with us, he had this huge grin on his face and he said "We aren't going to Charlottesville. This is it. What more could I want?" Something in him had just clicked, and he hasn't looked back since. He is one happy Heel! :) And we're just tickled to death for him because we thought UNC was fantastic-- and this is no small admission for my hubby, a Duke alum. ;-)

Liane, I hope you'll give me all the scoop on places to stay when visiting Alex, and places to eat and shop and all that stuff! And I hope to meet you when we're up there!

Kathy, that's so great that he made a decision and knows what he wants! My niece has been going through the same thing and finally just decided on Swarthmore last week. It's a tough decision to make, and it's nice to be past the decision-making process. Congratulations!

BTW, Mogambo hasn't been on much lately, but she stops in occasionally and may see your post.

Congratulations again!!
