organization help....

Hi Everybody...

I am trying to organize my life (good luck), anyway, I need an idea on how to organize and store magazines. Right now they are in my filing cabinet, but I need to expand my files so I have to move them. I thought about boxing them and putting them in a storage area, but then I would never use them, so I might as well throw them out. Any suggestions?

I use something like the ones in the link Michele posted, but I get them from Ikea and they're made of unfinished wood. Very sturdy. Then I cover them in really pretty paper and hang a tag off of them to say what they are, and store them with the tag showing, but not all the magazines. Depending on the size of the magazine, you can usually fit a full year's worth in one box.

Hi Linda,

It sounds like you're trying to keep all your magazines. I took a more drastic approach. I had way too many and they were taking up too much space. So, I sorted my magazines and dedicated a set amount of time each day/week to go through each magazine. I tore out the articles I wanted to keep and then threw the magazines out. I then got some 3 ring binders and filed the articles in the binders according to subject (home decorating, recipes, projects, etc...). There were a few magazines that I decided not to throw out because there was too much good stuff in there I wanted to keep so those I store in magazine files. But, the vast majority of them were just taking up space.

I don't know how many magazines you have so it may take a while to go through the magazines but it's not as though you're reading them all over again so it's not an extraordinary amount of time.

I did this exact same thing as Tracey on New Year's Day.

I am all for the removal specific articles and trashing the rest of the mag. Big time space saver. :)

I do sort through most of my magazines and pull only the articles I want and toss the rest, but I do have three that I like to keep because there is just to much stuff I like in them.

I agree. Though I'd substitute "recycling" for trashing.

And magazines that you want to get rid of in their entirely could be donated to your local library. (They either add them to their collection, or sell them for cheap to make some money).

Check out Flylady.com as mentioned above.
