OMG the DOMS!!!

I know I posted two days ago about worrying about an onset of DOMS after a run. I'm just here to express the sheer pain in both of my legs, from my hips to my toes, no kidding!! I'm limping around at work. At this point, even the stretches aren't helping. UGGG!! I was in Boscovs yesterday, and an elderly lady dropped something on the floor, and all I could do was watch her pick it up, because I could've never bent down to get it.

Any advice? I work on my feet as a nurse all day, so unfortunately I can't soak right now. :(

Believe it or not, your job will do you a favor! Nothing worse for DOMS then letting the muscles be still...as much as you might want to do that! LOL I have a desk job and when I have bad lower body DOMS I get up and walk around as much as possible to keep the muscles from tightening up on me. The more you use them the faster you will find relief!

I don't think hip pain is a good sign. For me, that would signal something wrong... probably not having the proper shoes. Some DOMS is natural if you're not used to running, but it should not be in the hips.

Did you get fitted for the right running shoes before you started? If not, do it before you run again. It should make a huge difference.

Fleetfeet (fleetfeet.com) or something similar!

Good luck with your running!

When I worked with a trainer, every time I would mention DOMS in a certain area from our previous workout, we would work that area again and usually we did it first, it always seemed to feel much better. It's kind of like "hair of the dog" but for DOMS instead of hangovers. :p

Well, today is slightly better, mostly quad doms. I did get fitted for the correct running shoes, and they are almost brand new! I think my hip pain is the flexors, because i live in a very hilly area and did a few steep hills. I am going to wait till tomorrow to go back out, and think I'll do more of a run/walk till I get back into the groove.
thanks for everyones input!

I remember when I ran dealing with some extremely intense DOMS from long training runs/races. I was hobbling around for days on more then one occasion. I learned to wear it as a badge of honor! :D

Glad you are starting to feel better!

I remember being that way on my very first run ever. I was sooooo sore, my entire lower body. For days. It does get better after this, I promise! It only really happened to me once. And if I go an extended period without running, I only really feel it in my shins the next day. A little in the hips.

And I agree, probably being active on your feet IS the best way to ease them. Also, epsom salts baths. But you're probably all set by now!

It can also just be a sign of overdoing (depending somewhat on if the 'hip pain' is in the muscle or more in the joint).
