Okay, I promise to let this go after this...

TeTe

Cathlete
I brought up the murder of my friends in another post, and after doing so, I looked to see if there might be another tribute to them (sorry, but when I think about them, I do things like that).

Anyway, I found this song that's on the new Drive By Truckers' album and, well, it kind of breaks my heart. It's about Bryan and Kathy and Stella and Ruby. And I just want to share it with people.

The day they were killed was Jan 1, 2006, and they were having friends over for a chili party. Well, when people came over, they saw the police and firemen and found out that something awful had happened.

Anyway, here's the song. (click the arrow and wait a few seconds) http://www.last.fm/music/Drive-By+Truckers/_/Two+Daughters+And+A+Beautiful+Wife

TWO DAUGHTERS AND A BEAUTIFUL WIFE
When he reached the gates of heaven
He didn’t understand
He knew that folks were coming over
Or was it all a dream?
Was it all a crazy dream?

He saw them playing there before him
What were they doing there?
It felt like home, It must be alright
Or is it just a dream?
Is it just a crazy dream?

Memories replay before him
All the tiny moments of his life
Laying round in bed on a Saturday morning
Two daughters and a wife
Two daughters and a beautiful wife

Meanwhile on Earth his friends came over
Shocked and horrified
Dolls and flowers at the storefront
Everybody cried
Everybody cried and cried

Is there vengeance up in heaven?
Are those things left behind?
Maybe everyday is Saturday morning
Two daughters and a wife
Two daughters and a beautiful wife
Two daughters and a beautiful wife

My heart breaks for them, their families, and friends. I desperately hope Bryan, Kathy and the girls are now enveloped in nothing but peace, love and each other. <3

I recall hearing about this when it happened....it makes me think that I would have a hard time working in the criminal justice system--I would lose complete faith in humanity.

I am so sorry about your friends, TeTe. I remember you talking about it a couple of years back.

What a beautiful family and life cut so tragically short. Thanks for sharing the memory of Bryan, Kathryn, Ruby and Stella with us.

(((((HUGS)))))

I hope you know that I did not mean to diminish the hurt and heartbreak in the other post and that I do feel that these sociopaths who committed these horrible acts need to be punished and society needs to be protected from them.

Oh, not at all Carola. I can see so many sides to the issue, and, believe me, I went through the entire gamut of emotions when this happened. The bottom line is: nothing, but nothing, the judicial system could do could make me or any of their other friends or their family feel better. It would never take away the horror of what we knew had happened to them and what they had endured. And nothing would bring them back. (I had heard that said on TV so many times by family and friends of victims, but I didn't really get that truly gut wrenching feeling of what they were talking about until after this happened.) I remember not caring whether or not the murderers got the death penalty. But, when the trial started, and I read the confession letter, and found out more of what happened, I leaned more toward it than I thought I would have.

When it was all said and done, I realized that I had to stop thinking about them (the murderers). I didn't want to hate them, or think of a revenge for them, or think about what would happen to them. They'd already taken too much and I just couldn't give them any more power. I'm just glad that they were caught and stopped, put away, and will not be able to do something like this ever again.

Thanks for the good thoughts.

I can't believe I haven't heard of this before. It sounds so much like the "In Cold Blood" murders that Truman Capote wrote about. Teresa, they were friends of yours? How horrifying. :(
