Hi all! I'm approaching the end of week 6, and have been feeling quite fine. I've been very impressed with how gosh-awfully well I've been feeling, and especially pleased with the lack of food aversions this time around.
WEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLL!!!!!! Today I have felt especially fatigued, my blood sugar has been unstable, and I had nausea for most of the morning. And I suddenly have a massive craving for chicken wings and curly fries, courtesy of Pizza 73. In both my previous pregnancies I hit a stage early in the first trimester where I only wanted to eat high-protein, high-fat, high-cal foods. I think I've hit it again. In my first pregnancy I gave in to all my "cravings", and ended up rather unhealthy by the end of it all. The second time around I forced myself to eat healthy, even though those vegetables were utterly repelling. But then I miscarried at 11 weeks, my tastes went back to normal, and I went back to my regular weight in a few weeks of regular eating (geez, can I blame the vegetables? . So, I'm feeling a bit quandried.
Are these cravings I get a result of my body simply wanting more calories? I have read numerous places that your body isn't supposed to require extra calories until the 2nd trimester. But seeing as I'm a lean person, it's probable that my body might want to gain more weight to support the pregnancy, right? Hey, I'm happy to oblige
I should say that normally I eat very clean, and am actually repulsed by fried junk food. I haven't had chicken wings and fries in 3 years (but damn they sound good right about now!). I learned over the years that when I begin to crave the fast food, I'm actually needing more carbs. So I went back to my typical solution of eating a whole bunch of fresh pineapple, until I couldn't eat another bite. I'm still wanting the chicken wings. And I may end up with a mouthful of canker sores to boot. :-(
As many of you know by now, I fully embrace pregnancy weight gain - but I really don't support eating crap. I think it's self-abuse. So, here's my question: DO I ORDER CHICKEN WINGS AND FRIES FOR SUPPER OR COOK THE HEALTHY DINNER THAT'S ALREADY PLANNED?? What would you do?
