Off topic, sorry!

I have not been able to eat much the last few weeks due to so much stress on my job. I can't even eat at home after work due to being so nervous. I have no energy to exercise any longer and am losing weight rapidly. (I needed to lose 10 lbs anyway, but didn't plan or desire to do it this way). Would rather have kept the extra weight!

Obviously I have to get out of this job that I've been in for 17 years. I have applied for a job as a paraprofessional at a local high school (to assist the English as a second language teacher). Anybody out there a parapro and can give me any info on this career, pay, job satisfaction, stress level of job, etc.? I would love to talk to a school parapro but don't know anybody locally. I though maybe some Cathe fans might be in this career field and could tell me more about it.
Thanks,
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

I am a school counselor and I'm not sure what you mean by a paraprofessional. Here in NC we have teaching assistants - is that the same? My only concern for you is that you move to a school as a sense of calling rather than as a career move. Working for a school district almost always includes a good benefits package. HOWEVER each year schools are subject to budget constraints and in our state assistant jobs tend to get cut first (ie there may not be much job security). That said, if you have the potential to work with ESL you will probably find your skills very marketable - all districts are craving bi- or multi-lingual staff members.

Hope this helps.

Hi Joanna,
Thanks for responding to my post. Yes, I believe a parapro is the same as a teacher's assistant or teacher's aide. In North Georgia, we call them parapro's.
Thanks again,
Lisa

Lisa, are you in metro Atlanta? In other words, what are your geographic requirements? E-mail me at [email protected] -- I might have a couple ideas for you. (Remember I'm in Atlanta, too.)
