Good morning ladies..

Today CTX kickbox and quick fix cardio is on the schedule. But, I was thinking I might just pop in kickmax and do that without the leg drills at the end to make up for the two that are scheduled..

Anyway, time to start our day..

Be back later..

Good Morning, Kathy!

And everyone !!

I think I will do some cardio, but I'm in a funk mood, and don't really even FEEL like working out.

Hope today brightens for everyone, including me!

Enjoy KM, Kathy!

Good morning! I hope today is a better day for everyone. Hottie, how is that migraine?

Chris, I was thinking more about your situation, and I know I don't know very much about it, but I was wondering if you started doing those weekend night shifts when your boys were young, because it let you split the care with Greg. I was wondering now that they're older, would it be possible to get a part-time day time job that was five days a week to be enough hours? It seems like we keep hearing about the nursing shortage, and you would think if there really is a shortage, you would have more power in choosing your hours -- I know the shifts might not be set up like that, but if they were desperate enough, it seems they would try to make it work, no? But of course I don't know how far you have to drive and all -- maybe it just wouldn't be enough hours to make up the difference. Anyway, just wondered if maybe it's time to look for a new job since they basically have given you a big pay cut!

I did the Angie Miller kbell workout this morning -- feeling good after not really working out for two days! I think I'm going to be sore -- we'll see.

I think the fire is basically out -- haven't actually checked any status yet this morning, but it looked good last night. The winds definitely picked up in the night though, and it's supposed to be really windy for a couple of days, so, well, let's hope it's out!

cheers!

Hey Again...

I ended up doing Turbo Jam: Kick, Punch and Jam + the floorwork from Ab Jam. It was a good sweat, but not sure it got me out of my funk yet. Doesn't help it's cloudy and cool out. Ick.

Hottie: I do hope you are feeling better too!

Beth: It does feel good to work out after missing a few days. Is the KB workout mostly weight work or combines weight and cardio? .... Do you guys have a nursing shortage out there? There isn't one here. In fact, our hospital (which is the biggest in Western MA) has a hiring freeze and did not hire ONE single new grad this year. That is one big reason they can "get away" with cutting the Weekend Incentive Program. They originally came up with it about 10 years ago when there WAS a nursing shortage and they wanted to recruit/attract nurses. Actually, nursing goes in cycles. I know eventually a shortage will happen again, but maybe not for another 10 yrs! I would LOVE it if I could get a day position while the kids are in school That would be ideal. But nursing positions are not easy to come by, and the times/hours kind of suck, plus there not being any openings. ... Although I guess it wouldn't hurt to maybe put in an application at a tiny hospital that's right down the street from where we live. Maybe I could do per diem... IF they're hiring.

*sigh*. Guess it's time to get to the grocery store. ... I'm so down in the dumps. I need cheer!!

I may have mischaracterized the migrained as it appears to have been an awful sinus headache that screws me up similarly (nausea, sensitive to light, etc). we have cold like symptoms (me and joe). very very very annoying. both of us need to work a lot...his situation isn't nearly as stressful as mine but getting stressed out ain't going to help us! and evee doesn't understand why the humans are home (we came home early yesterday) and not spending time with her! ahh, if only she could make us breakfast right now. i did do the last disc of STS last night. I was super pissy though because I had to DROP in weights instead of increase them for a lot of sets yesterday. Wonder if its defeating the purpose. if I can do some kind of light cardio I may try to to break up some of the congestion. I need to go into work around noonish to create a start point for an experiment of mine but I may just do it and come promptly home. Joe's still in bed. :(

Kathy -- have fun with the KB! Wish I could sweat it out with you.
Beth -- I'm so glad to hear the fires are almost gone. Better than that 3 week fire we had to breathe. It's weird -- you don't want to work out because you haven't but once you did you feel great.
Chris -- I remember reading about the nursing shortage some time ago. I also remember reading how nursing schedules are super crazy and its a very seniority kind of thing too. This may sound stupid but are their private practice oncology nurses?

OH I can definitely see how you could mistake a sinus/cold headache for a migraine. Nice you got to rest up a little today. Hope you feel better! Lots of liquids and chicken soup! You rock for even TRYING to do STS when you feel so lousy!! Don't beat yourself up for not lifting as heavy...

Still funking here...

Joanne: Hope your dad is ok! Been thinking about you guys today too...

And Beth: I meant to say it's got to be a HUGE relief the threat of the fires is gone!! What a huge scare!!

Oh, and on the oncology nurse private practice, they do exist. We have a huge clinic associated with our hospital, where all our oncologists work. The nurses do TONS of chemotherapy, and it's a very busy, high pressure job. I've known a few nurses that went over there and didn't like it. But also a bunch that went there from our unit and love it. It's just not my thing. I swear, the more I think about it, the more I think I'd like to work at a Dunkin Donuts, or some "meaningless" job, instead of stressing about people's lives being on my hands!

Chris, there's a huge nursing shortage in California, and then to make it worse, the nursing schools can't keep up -- they're all full and hard to get into. I can see how it would go in cycles!

I can also see how you might get tired of having that kind of pressure-job. I know I wouldn't be able to handle it from day 1. My cousin's daughter-in-law used to be a nurse and now runs a company that supplies nurses to private individuals -- I think that's the schtick -- you probably know the kind of outfit I mean. She had some problem where she couldn't be on her feet any more, so she started with the company doing desk work and just worked her way up to running the whole thing.

That kettlebell workout I did is both cardio and strength, but the cardio comes from swinging the bell. I skipped overhead stuff, as usual these days, but was able to do almost all of the workout. So much of kbell has to do with your legs, so I feel ok doing it.

Hottie, you have finished meso 1?! Congrats!!!

Hi ladies. Not the best week for some of us, huh? Too bad we all live so far - we could all get together for some much needed "cheer". ;)

Chris, I'm so sorry about the job situation. So, basically you'll have the same hours, but a lot less money? That stinks. I know what you mean about sometimes wanting to work at Dunkin' donuts. My job is nothing like yours - no lives are at stake, but I get so bored with it and stressed at the same time. A job where you don't have to think much would be nice! Good for you for getting a workout - I'm in a funk and haven't worked out since Saturday.

Beth, so good to hear the fire is most likely out. The kids are relieved, I'm sure. That sounds like a fun workout.

Hi Kathy! Did you wind up doing Kickmax?

Hottie, sorry you are feeling so bad. I know, don't you wish the pets would help out around the house more? ;) Sometimes I wish I was a dog - much less stress! Let's see, when do I eat again? sleep again? Two of my favorite things to do. :)

No, DH did not finish cleaning up the basement Friday. :( I think I mentioned yesterday I had hurt my back somehow. I either did it schlopping wet clothes and blankets around the basement or sorting through summer/winter clothes and moving boxes around in the attic Friday night. I woke up Saturday and my side hurt a bit, but stubborn me was determined to do my CLX Burn 3 workout. Well, afterwards, I was in so much pain I was close to tears. It hurt so bad when I took a breath - not even deep breathes. I think even Caitlyn was worried about me. It was sore kind of in between my side and back, in the middle. I went to lay down and found one position it didn't hurt in, DH gave me a massage and I took some Motrin. After about an hour I was able to breath without pain. Very weird. Still hurt if I breathed in deep and up till yesterday I couldn't sneeze without excrutiating pain. Today if I breath in hard, I can feel it, but it's better. I'm kind of afraid to do a workout, especially anything with weights, after how it felt Saturday after CLX. I may try something low impact tomorrow.

My Dad is OK - they did one procedure yesterday and couldn't find the source of the bleeding. I guess there are so many blood vessels in the bladder and kidneys that it's hard to tell where it's coming from. They did put some type of seal in somewhere, not sure exactly where. Tomorrow he's having another procedure to look at the bladder more closely and they are going to try to break up the stones. I really hope this works. The poor guy has been through so much. He's been in there almost two weeks now.

Back to work....

Joanne

eek, I can't type when I'm sick! (not that I type all that well when I'm not sick.) I went into work to do the culture dilution and then came right back. I made Joe a super breakfast and we ate a good lunch too but I'm only eating because I should. I have no appetite at all. I managed to barely do 4DS KB. It was weird...sometimes the energy just pumped up there to the point where I was doing great and then sometimes I was breathing so hard and all the congestion was just pressurized. Glad I got some of it out though. I meant to say I did the LATEST disc from STS -- I'm actually with Kathy in the 2nd week of Meso 2. I think that's why I was so upset I had to drop in weight. Joe thinks I couldn't lift as heavy because I was sick and my body couldn't push the energy through. I'm doing little things around the house but we're mostly ... get this ... trying to save the world. Joe and I are just next to each other playing video games to heal up...something mindless (though not my game) but a little better than just watching TV. I'm almost done this one game too so I can finally cross it off my list!

Chris -- I don't suppose there are nursing exams you can tutor/teach for? I've been picking up extra cash by tutoring and I can ask for so much more because its in niche fields (AND I'M THAT GOOD). :) It's a lot easier to schedule around though its not *stable* money. I make about $100-200/wk depending on exam schedule. I know that's not enough but I'm not sure if there are exam prep places...I think they rip of the teacher like crazy but if you hold firm you can argue for higher pay. Just an idea. Or you could just live with either me or Beth. Beth has a guest house and I only a guest room but who wants those crazy microclimates up north! :)

Beth -- so which do you like more? The bosu or the kettlebells? You know, when I met Cathe, we had a pretty long talk about the bosu. She basically said that she didn't want to be "one of those" instructors that always was out with a new shtick and that asking her following group to buy yet another $100+ piece of equipment seemed counterintuitive. Now, I actually liked that thinking but I mentioned that I thought most of her audience would shill out the cash for it, and she agreed but she was pretty solid, not going to bosu! I was fine with that because if she's into something new, I seem to lose all control and must buy it now!

Joanne -- take Bayer! Bayer helps my mother's back a lot. I hope it feels better. Maybe a heating pad to help with it as well. I'm so sorry about your dad --I hope it gets easier for him. Actually, one of my students has kidney stones and its night and day the difference when he's in pain and when he isn't. I hope no one in my family every has to go through that pain!! ::hugs::

Ok, I'm going to try and take the Evee on a walk since she's been so good and we've been so bad to her. hopefully the outside air is better than lab air!

Joanne, your back! Oh no.... I think you should probably not do weights for a while -- that sounds very painful!

Yes, I think the fire is under good control -- it's been incredibly windy today -- that kind of wind where you just feel like you're going to blow away with it, so I can't imagine that's doing any good. Fortunately it is not blowing in our direction. The kids are so in their own world by now that they aren't even thinking about the fire. To be a kid! :)

Hottie, asking which I like more, bosu or kettlebells, is like asking which do you like more: pizza, or ice cream? :) They are pretty different. Kettlebells are probably much more versatile. Though I really feel DOMs in my legs after using the bosu, I do feel like it's more of a cardio tool. If you're debating your next purchase, I think you should try kbells before bosu, though if you do it right, you'll want to have some training sessions so it'll be a bigger investment up front. Interesting about Cathe and the bosu -- I found it interesting that she didn't want to make her customers get on the bandwagon of purchasing the next new thing when she has all that stuff from Altus. I guess, though, she is pretty good about always saying it's optional.

I guess I need to go make dinner.... have no idea when Larry is coming home, so it's tough to get the timing right, you know? Chris, nice job searching on craiglist. ;)
