O/T: Opinion of Livingroom Color

I took a picture of part of my livingroom that has just been painted "chestnut". I swear sometimes I think the color needs to grow on me and other times I just think I love it. Is it too dark? Needs a border which we are getting, but what do you all think of the color? Be honest. The picture is in my August file.

The curtains are white with red roses and the contrast is amazingly beautiful. The border I want with some kind of berry twig vines behind a very light beige background, etc. I haven't gotten the border yet...maybe tomorrow.

This is only my opinion. Chestnut usually goes with the southwest theme.
My sister is into it.
Darker color should be used in large rooms. Smaller rooms will look tiny with dark colors.
Most of my house is in wood tongue and groove. At least you can change the paint.
Spice it up with some lighter colors. If you decide you don't like it.Change it.
You could sponge some colors faux painting.
All kinda stuff to make it a little brighter so you don't have to repaint.
Do you like it????
That is what matters.
My taste is country modern.
Frilley , flowery and girly.
I like burgundys mauves country blues greens purples.
I like wood and ceramic. Some like other things.
I have stone grey and white carpet in my living room wood walls and burgundy furniture.
I live in an old skii resort community. I like cosy.
But newer not old furniture. Just woody.
Some like victorian. My sister likes old chandaliers. I think they are ugly. I made myself stained glass ones.
Good luck.

Charlotte, hat sounds lovely.;) I love color and I think the browns are a seldom used but fantastic choice. I think these shades really add warmth to a room.

Anne,

Thanks for your opinion as well. The room is very large. I was thinking about the faux painting you mentioned as well. I will see what the border does for the room. Adding a border makes a big difference as well.

Charlotte, I think it is a really nice color (I am very into color, too). If you think it is too dark, then I would suggest maybe using some very light colored throws/pillows on the furniture.

Faux painting always sounds like a good idea, but it is a lot of work and you may tire of it quickly (I did, ugh).

BTW, what arm workouts are you doing, girl, and how often???? You look awesome!

Cheers,
Marie

It's very pretty. I love the look of those rich colors, and the border you described sounds like it'll really tie everything together.

As much as I love the darker colors, I personally can't live in them. All my walls are plain white, no curtains on the windows. People think I'm nuts, but I need to feel "open."

Shannon,

You sound like my mom!;-) I do love the color, but I hope I can make it thru the winter in that room. Maybe I will just hang out in the sunroom with the heat turned on full blast instead!:D

Charlotte -
Glad to know there's someone else out there with my strange taste in decor. :)

What sort of windows do you have in that room? Maybe you could arrange some furniture near them and pull back the curtains during the day so you won't get the winter blahs.

The sunroom sounds like an excellent option, though!

Charlotte,
I love it. I can't tell from the picture if it feels too dark, though. A friend of mine used a rich brown in her living room. She only used the brown on one wall and a white on the others and it had a really nice effect. If the room is large with some nice windows and you break up the color with curtains, paintings, decoration, etc. I think it will be fine.

Hi, Charlotte! My living room is a deep, deep taupy brown, and I just love it! And from the picture, I think yours looks great. I can remember when we started painting, the first few strokes, I was horrified, and thought it was way too dark...but we kept going, and the farther we went, the more I loved it. It's warm and comfortable, and our decorating style is very traditional. It's been 8 years, and I can't bear the thought of "updating" or changing it! Ultimately, it's a personal choice...but it sounds like you've made a good one!

RE: O/T: Opinion of Living room Color

I like it, it looks really warm. I think it's a good choice. Sometimes people go too light in my opinion.

In the summer months if you are feeling it is too dark you can always put a light colored slipcover on the couch or light colored throw pillows to brighten in up.

Thanks Gayle! We are not going to add any crown molding just a wall border. Boy, that was a pretty picture of that room, thanks again for sharing it!
