O/T Best Upright Vacuum?

I need to gather input and I hope you all can help? I am looking into buying a new upright Vacuum and need sugggestions on what you all believe is the best out there. I currently have a Kirby vacuum that works perfectly fine but for $800 dollars it is the crapiest/most pain in the butt vacuum I have ever used. You have to completely change vacuum heads just to use the hand held hose and then switch back to continue using the carpet head x( Thank you for all suggestions!
 
I have an Electrolux and I love it. It has not failed me once and I have had it since 1996. It was the best $600.00 I have ever spent. I have dogs and men who refuse to remove their shoes so it is put to the test daily.

We own a Dyson and can't say enough good things about it. The suction is amazing, it pulls anything and everything out of the carpet. Even though its an expensive vacuum cleaner, it will last you forever.

A second for Electrolux. I've bought two of them used for about $200. I bought my second in 1998 & it's still going strong. It's also the most powerful vaccuum I've ever used--it sucks up just about everything!

Oh & the nifty little Sidekick gets sofas, stairs, you name it........

shopvacs are the best when they get clogged you just reverse the sucktion to blow out the clogged dirt regular vacuums get clogged too much i sweep my rug with a broom because i hated the vacuum i had till i got the shop vac
 
I did a bit of research recently and found out the Wind Tunnel by Hoover has the best suction of any upright vacum you can buy. It is a bagged cleaner with an allergy filter and cost about $279. I was very interested in the Dyson for a while, so I decided to find out if it was more hype than action.

I bought my Hoover last week at Linens and things. It was marked down to $229 and I had a coupon for 20% off at L&T so it came in at under $200.

It is the best value. The head soesn't need to be cahnged to go from floor to carpet. This is valuable if a home has hardwoods and area rugs as ours does. It has on board tools that are easy to use. Our home has central vacuming and I prefer this Hoover to the central vacuming system.

Well, I finally bought my Dyson and I love it. I bought the new DC15 "the ball" model.

I don't like the bagged vacuums because bags would be one more thing I would have to remember to purchase on a regular basis!
 
I have the DC15 Dyson and LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. It is so nice not having to buy bags and all that crap. I had a Hoover....but with that you have to buy bags and change filters (the Dyson you just remove the 1 filter every 6 months and run it under tap water and dry it) some of the new Dysons are coming out with some sort of computer chip where if something goes wrong you can call an 800# and put the vacuum up to the reciever and it'll tell the computer what is wrong with it??? Saw it on the Science channel. Also had an Oreck and it was o.k. but with them there are no attatchments...but they are light if you have multi floors. My Dyson cost me $400, I think??
 
I like my Hoover Wind Tunnel. Works better that my Kirby. I have heard good things about the Dyson, but didn't want to spend that much since I spent way too much on the Kirby(twenty years ago).

I have had a Dyson for a couple of years and really am impressed with the great job it does on dog hair and dirt, but it doesn't have good edge cleaning and I don't think the suction is very good when using the on board tools. But for daily cleaning, it's easy to use and quite effective. In the March 2006 issue of Consumer Reports,
2 Kenmore uprights topped the ratings: The Progressive with direct drive-model #35922 (or model #35293) was rated #1, and the #2 vacuum was the Progressive with direct drive model #36932 (or model #36933) The #2 rated machine does not use a bag. Both these machines retail for $300.00 and are Consumer Reports Best Buys. The Hoover Windtunnel Self Propelled Ultra, model #U6439-900 (or #U6436-900 or #U6454-900) is rated #3. The retail price is $280.00. The third C. R. Best Buy is the Eureka Boss Smart Vac Ultra 4870 at $140.00. It also uses a bag.
