Nutritional Plans that Actually Worked for You?

I am considering starting a new nutrition plan to lose some body fat. I have some books, but nothing has really worked for me in terms of an actual plan created by someone else. I lost 110 pounds three years ago and have kept it off (maintaining), but I'd like to now lose that last bit of weight that's hanging around. I lost the weight just going low calorie, adding in snacks and concentrating on protein.

I seem to be having a hard time getting back to the lower calorie part and I thought I'd ask what nutritional plans some of you have followed that I could find in a book (not Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, Herbalife, etc.) that actually worked for you.

I want to hear about actual results, not just books we like or thought were interesting.

Note: I have BFFM and think Tom's a genius, but I really don't have the time to follow his program the way it should be followed for success. Also, I'm a vegetarian, so a meat-heavy nutrional plan isn't going to work for me.

Thanks for your help!

Quite a few years ago I lost about 20lbs with the help of a nutrionist. I have kept it off but every so often when 5 lbs or so comes back or I just start to feel like I need to be accountable and I need to tighten up my eating I go back and see him for a month or so. It works everytime. I've only been back to him like maybe 5 or 6 times in over the past 8 years. Sometimes we all just need an outsider who is educated to take a look at what were doing and give us a little direction. This is what always help me. Good luck!

Thanks; I've been to a nutritionist a few times and I always know more than they do. I'm really looking for information about books.

Atkins worked for me - lost 30 pounds, DH lost 150 pounds. We've kept it off for 7 years now.

Once we lost the weight, we shifted to a more balanced diet. I'm actually vegetarian now. DH still restricts a lot of carbs (sugar, bread, cereal, potatoes) but does eat healthy carbs (quinoa, beans, nuts).

Years ago, I contacted Atkins, who told me that you can't follow Atkins on a vegetarian diet. I tried South Beach a while ago for a couple of weeks, but didn't lose any weight.

Have you read Eat to Live by Joel Furhman? It focuses on whole foods, plant-based, high nutrition-to-calorie ratio eating.

The lastest book has Vegetarian options for following Atkins. I think it is called something like "New Atkins for a New You". But if South Beach didn't work for you, maybe this isn't a good option either.

Hi Morningstar,

Like you, I have lost over 100 pounds and am now looking to get that last 10-15 off. I haven't read it yet, but someone just recommended this book to me today, so I've put it on reserve at the library. If you want me to give you a report on it once I've had a chance to look through it, I'd be happy to. :)

The South Beach Diet really worked for my husband. He lost 35 pounds in 2 months and kept most of it off. He also said his stomach never felt better! The biggest thing about the diet is staying away from high GI foods (which are bad anyway). Take a look and see what you think. Good luck.
