Nurture the good, kill the bad?

I was reading Deepak Chopra's Jesus recently, and he had some interesting thoughts at the end of the book. One of the things he mentioned was to nurture good seeds in our life and ignore bad seeds. In other words, place our attention, time and energy nurturing the things that are good in our life, while deliberately not focusing on the negative. Thus, the good will flourish and the bad will die out.

I'm curious as to what people think about this approach to life and accomplishing your goals.

As an aside, the book's not bad, but I preferred Anne Rice's Jesus series.

Yes, I believe this to be true. And it fits the age old truism - "You become what you meditate on." And "breathe in the good stuff - exhale the bad stuff."

here is a youtube link to my all time favorite cartoon.

Sunshine Sunshine, it makes all the world feel fine.:D

I agree with Deepak's statement. Although it's often easy to fall into the trap of negativity, having a positive mental attitude and outlook is essential for being happier and healthier. You feel better when you look on the positive side of things and you are more calm and peaceful.

This is the same idea promoted in the book "The Strong Willed Child." The theory is that it is supposed to increase good behavior while decreasing negative behavior. So far it is working, albeit slowly, with my daughter.

I agree with that philosophy, but it's sometimes hard to put into action. Those negative things seem to like attention, don't they?

This sounds a bit like "the secret," or at least part of it. But I think it's an approach to life that's been around for much longer than Chopra or the people who promote 'the secret.'
