numbness in toes

Hi everyone,
I am having a problem with numbness and pins and needles when I do step for an extended period of time.

My previous aerobics shoes were Rykas and loved them - and so a month ago I purchased the rhythm II - My regular shoe size is a 10 - but given that these are known to fit a bit small - I bought the 10.5.

I find them quite comfortable - until I get to the 3rd combo of Step Blast - and my toes and centre/top of foot gets pins and needles.

Is it just that I haven't mastered doing aerobics for that long a period - or do you think it could be that these are not the shoes for me. My feet have bunions. The shoes don't feel small -

Could it be that it is because they are new ( a month old) and I haven't broken them in yet?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Yve,

I think it could be your shoes. I've dealt with the same problem in the past--my feet would go numb while powerwalking or using the elliptical trainer. I found a really great athletic shoe store where they are experts at helping customers achieve the perfect fit. See if you have one in your area. The one I go to is privately owned and not a chain, and they have a podiatrist on staff who is so helpful. I always try to go when he is working. Good luck to you. I know it's a frutrating problem and you may have to go through several pairs of shoes before you find one that fits properly. The store I go to will allow you to return shoes so long as you haven't worn them outside.

Yve,
I have had the same problem. I really love Reeboks and every time I have a new pair, the same thing happens for a month or so. How annoying. Then they stretch out and are OK.
Couple of hints....
Wear really thin socks when you first get them. Your sweat will soak through and help stretch them out. Also, it gives you a little more room.
Don't lace them very tight across the top of your foot. When I have them cinched down, I get that pins and needles. You may need to tie a knot midway through where they go through the eyes of the shoes to keep enough tension to keep them on without having them tight on the bridge. Hope that makes sense!
Mine took about 5 weeks to stop doing it. When it happens I just sit for a minute and it goes away.

If you can take them back, you may want to. But I have broken in about 5 pairs this way. It seems like for me the inside padding goes first because I don't wear mine outside. I don't really realize how worn out and stretched out the old pair is because they always look new. When I get a new pair they are really far off the fit of the old.

Good luck.
