Now I am just beside myself! (cat again)

HoneyBunch I'm with you. That's why I hate to even venture to these threads.

My cats are NOT ALLOWED OUTSIDE. Too much heartache and grief have resulted from my poor excuse as a caregiver.

Honeybunch and Marla.......

Why are you guys being so judgemental? I really don't appreciate it. If I told you how much money I just spent fixing and getting medical care for two cats that aren't even mine, you would be floored. I am trying to make things better for these animals. I am trying to neuter and spay them so they don't create MORE unwanted animals.

I have personally paid out of my pocket THOUSANDS of dollars to neuter and spay cats that were not mine. I, personally, am NOT contributing to the cat population problem, rather I am improving it.

I guess it is alot easier to say that when you have two or three indoor kitties that get along and you aren't out trying to save every stray on the street. And it IS HARD to keep stray cats that have been outside all their lives indoors. Plus, I have an indoor cat that has to get accustomed to them!! It's not like you bring them indoors and everyone lives happily ever after!

Well, I guess that is it. I suppose this will be the last time I post about things like this on this forum.;(

Janice, I didn't mean to offend you. I guess it did sound like that. Actually, I have learned the hard way not to let my cats out. Two of my favorite cats disappeared & I still haven't forgiven myself. These cat's had the best personalities. I still miss them so much.

A lot of things can happen to cats outside. Traffic, coyotes (around my area) mean people.

I think you do an awesome thing neutering/spaying your cats & strays. You should be commended. Please accept my apology, Janice, I really didn't intend for it to sound judgemental.

I'm sorry too. Guess I am PMS'ing a bit today. It is just a very sensitive topic for me. I have given up a lot in terms of time, heartache, and money for animals that were not mine. Honestly, I wish I could save them all, but I am only one person.

;-) :) :) :)

Honeybunch and Smoogy:
I'm in complete agreement with you that cats should be kept indoors, and all 5 of mine are (unless they go out under my supervision, and leashed as needed--Scooter just hangs around, so he doesn't need to be). Whenever people say they let their cats out, it really annoys me (even my stepmother does, and she's had cats hit by cars). (Not as much as when people declaw, but almost as much.)

On the other hand, I've been in the situation Janice is in, dealing with cats who start out as strays and are perhaps cared for by noone. While it would be ideal to make them housecats, they grew up outside and sometimes it's a choice between fixing and taking care of them and keeping them outside, and taking them to a shelter where they will most likely be euthanized because they are "too old," or the males are so used to spraying that they don't stop it once neutered.
