Noticed something odd yesterday

I've been tracking my food for about 2 months, eating very clean and eliminating bad carbs from my diet. We have a goodbye lunch of pizza and wings today for one of our teammates at work who is going back home to India. I accepted the invitation, but have no desire for pizza and wings. I brought a salad with goat cheese for lunch. At my piano teacher's last night, I had one Hershey kiss and didn't want a second. That was the first chocolate I've had in 2 months. Oh wait.... I had one of my daughter's chocolate raspberry parfait yogurts a few weeks ago when I ran out of my Chobani pomegranate yogurt.

This morning I found myself almost licking the tub of the same plain Greek yogurt I was complaining about the other day (same type, not same tub of yogurt).

I really didn't expect to enjoy the healthy food better than the crap I used to eat. I can actually sit in the car with someone who is eating McDonald's, smell the fries, and not want any. It's very liberating.

That is great! When you are used to eating and feeling healthier, the junk doesn't satisfy nearly as much as it used to. Unfortunately I pigged out on some brownies this past weekend and I felt so sluggish and lethargic after eating them. I don't even know why I ate as many as I did, because they definitely didn't taste as good as they used to and they did NOT make me feel good. Once I got back into my healthy eating though, I felt a million times better and I didn't even want to think about brownies or sweets. Food that's good for you makes you feel good and the crappy junk makes you feel good for 5 seconds and then like crap for the rest of the day. Once you realize this, eating healthier becomes more of a lifestyle and you'll not even want that junk food as much as you used to.

Congrats on your success!!!

I know EXACTLY what you mean :)
I used to really feel jealous watching other people eat 'nice' food, cakes, biscuits, burgers, creamy things, cheesy things... now I just think 'thank goodness I have my fat free greek yoghurt, peanut butter, bell peppers and oats. You could offer me 'nice' food, and I'd still prefer a nice plate full of peppers with yoghurt! Same with salads, people say 'don't you get bored of salad?'.. and I really don't!

You're right. It IS liberating. Shame nobody offers vegetables as snacks at office parties and things though!
:D

I was thinking how people on those Nutrasystem ads say things like "I can eat whatever I want".... and then I was like - yeah, so can I. I just want to eat healthier foods.

Though, a brownie sounds tastey. Just noticed I forgot to pack my Kashi TLC Chewy Trail Mix bar too. :( Will be a challenge to find a substitute afternoon snack.

You got it!

I was a real junk fooder when I was a teen, and it's amazing to look back and think of what I used to eat. Most of my favorite things back then, I find rather disgusting now: Pepsi, smooshy white bread (I wouldn't be caught dead eating the 'darker' breads), soft sugar-loaded pastries.

I'm still a big fan of Diet Coke. Don't drink AS much of it as I used to, but I still have at least a 20 oz bottle everyday.

Midgetdogg,

When I read this I had to post because I can totally relate. It IS very liberating, but what's even more cool is the fact that your body does get used to the healthier foods you feed it, and after a while you actually start to crave the healthier stuff. Over this last weekend, I did veer off track ( had a burger w/ cheese, potato salad , chips w/ chip dip and also a really sweet bar for dessert ) I should have known better because it wasn't too long after that, I felt SO bloated and run down it was crazy. I literally didn't feel well the rest of the day and it totally reminded me that , it was my body telling me "See, you should have made your salad like always" It took me two days to get over the bloating and draggy feeling. I learned my lesson. I honestly can't see how people who eat fast food on a daily basis make it through thier day. ish ! I too am at the point where I crave my organic yogurt with homemade granola for breakfast instead a fast food breakfast burrito.
Every once and a while I'll enjoy a slice of pizza and still enjoy my wine, but I'll take my huge homemade salad ( or steamed fish with baked sweet potato ) over fries, burgers, and wings any day !!
