Not eating at night?

Have you ever noticed that when you go to bed hungry, you wake up NOT hungry? And the opposite is true for me.If I eat before I go to bed,I wake up in the morning, ready to eat anything that is in site.
Would this be a easier way of trimming the wasitline? I went to bed last night hungry,I wake up today, not hungry, its 9:00 now and I am still not hungry.SO, does not eating before you go to bed, help you to control your appetite more the next day?
Just a thought.

Hi Lori :)

I noticed the same thing. Someone on a WW thread recommended I try to stop eating 3 hours before bed. I tried this and went to bed hungry but woke up energized and slept better. I also wasn't as hungry the next morning. Also, the scale rewarded me with a 2.5 lb. drop that week. I'm convinced!

I haven't noticed the part where you say you go to bed hungry and wake up not hungry but...

If I eat a big fun meal and get WAY full then I always wake up starving. I have a theory: when I eat so much and get so full my stomach expands a little. When the food is digested, my stomach is still a little stretched out so there is a more "empty" feeling. I'm sure that has no scientific basis but it satisfies my curiosity!

Also, my body is working so hard to digest all that food that it is burning calories and I wake up needing to refuel.

Hey - whatever floats my boat, right!

My non-scientific theory is similar to yours, Mikie.

I think part of the feeling I call "hunger" is from my stomach shrinking. When I eat a huge Thanksgiving dinner I stretch my stomach and in a few hours, when it is shrinking from huge to normal, I get hungry. If I skip 2 meals in a row, my stomach is holding at very small, and I'm not hungry.

I like going to be a little hungry, it definitely helps me to sleep better. However, I always wake up ravenous for breakfast regardless. I'm one of those people who like to eat earlier in the day and not as much in the evening.

My theory on eating is that your body gets used to eating more or less food. If you eat more for a few days, then your body starts asking for more - the same holds for eating less food. I don't diet, I just eat when I'm hungry and try not to overeat. But I have noticed that if I have a few really big meals (family gatherings etc) it is hard to get back on track for a few days (and I have to pay attention).

I don't know... I went to bed with a full tummy last night and woke up at 3 a.m. with hunger pangs. This usually happens when I hit the weights hard, which I've been doing the last week and a half, whether or not I go to bed on empty.

I only noticed that when I stuff myself all the time, my stomach somehow gets used to that stuffed feeling and clamors for food sooner and often. But when I clean up my eating with smaller meals spread out evenly through the day, my stomach doesn't bother me at all. Hunger has a lot to do with blood sugar levels, and it's important to keep it level throughout the day. As for cravings... well, mine are mostly hormonal. I don't have a sweet tooth but at a specific time during some months, I crave for all things sweet and unhealthy.:) Just my thoughts and observations.

If I go to bed hungry, it keeps me awake. I wind up getting back up and drinkinf a glass of milk or something. I haven't really seen a correlation between going to bed hungry or not, and waking up hungry or not.

I usually have some kind of snack a little while before bed, either milk or fruit.

I don't know, I must not be a morning eater. Because if I got to bed on a full stomach I'm not hungry in the morning, but I won't be hungry for all the morning. Where if I go to bed a little hungry I wake up not hungry, but I do get hungry after about an hour if I haven't eaten anything by then. Which sometimes happens because I get buisy taking care of other things and forget. Now here's a good question, why can't I get that buisy at night and forget to eat? I'm obviously the type of person that likes to eat at night. I'm trying to change that now.

Well my last meal of the day is usually around 6 pm, thats about when I finish eating. I don't eat the rest of the night and I am usually not hungry till about 9:30 or 10 am, I get up about 7:30 and have my cappuccino and orange juice, I usually start my exercises about 8:30 am and finish at 10:45 am, then I eat my lunch about 11 am or 11:30am.........
