No Wheat, Feeling Great!

Good Morning All:

Last week I experimented with not eating wheat, after my dad, a food scientist, told me that my physical complaints (bloating, nausea, stomach problems in general, fatigue) sounded like a wheat allergy. I have been off since Thursday, and, except for forgetting and eating two small stuffed mushrooms at a party, I have not had a drop o' wheat, to my knowledge. And I tell you, I feel like a whole new woman!! The bloating is gone. No nausea and I don't feel so run down (I *cranked* through BC yesterday!). I wonder though if this might be the power of suggestion? Is five days too soon to see the kind of difference I am seeing? It's hard because wheat seems to be in everything, and I *love* my whole wheat english muffins, but I will stick with it if it means I can feel like this for the long run.

Also, the health food store has gluten-free, wheat-free and yeast-free in different combinations. I went with the gluten AND wheat free. Any thoughts?

thanks! Sparrow

Sparrow,

This is interesting because there has been an increase in the diagnosing of celiac disease recently. diabetics are more likely to have eliac and there is an increase in that too. I think people with celiec must avoid all gluten. You may want to talk to a physician about this because I suppose it's possible that you would see dramatic results like this. I don't don't the difference between celiac and a allergy.

Do you eat cereals? This would take a total change of diet if you do and you cannot tolerate any gluten, but it is certainly worth it!

It must be great to have an expert (food scientist) in the family! You certainly have given food for thought. Sorry about the terrible pun...
