No Sweets Week of Sept. 2

Affirm

Cathlete
Hello Ladies. Can you believe that we have been hanging in here since January. I know each of us has had ups and downs, but it feels great to think about what we have accomplished during this time. We have made the commitment to eat less sweets this year and focus on small cheat treats or cheat days and we are experiencing some success. As I think about the holidays and plenty of food nearing us, I realize the importance of continuing our challenge. Let's keep it going ladies.

Rose, I hope the trouble with your friends will resolve itself without you having to get involved. I am sure that is tough for you. Hang in there.

Fitfairy, I hope your calf is feeling better.

This morning was IMAX 2 intervals 1 - 5 followed by my own 15 minute leg workout using my husbands equipment. I did some leg lifts and hamstring curls. Then I used my barbell to do some squats. Just a spur of the moment add on to my cardio.

Hello Ladies!! Affirm, you are so right!! We have been at this for 8 months now. With ups and downs, but we have learned to eat better and to control our portions!! Let's definitely keep it up.

Speaking of eating x( Today is absolutely my cheat day. And I didn't even really have a choice. That's what is so bad. If I am gonna cheat, I want it to be something I enjoy thoroughly. But we had a get together with in-laws. SIL's birthday was earlier in the week. So we go to this huge buffet=YUK!! I hate buffets x( So I had breakfast-scrambled eggs, hashbrowns and 3 slices of bacon. I guess it could've been worse. But I can think of a ton of other things I would've rather ate. OK, I'll stop whining now :7

Affirm, I like your spur of the moment w/o after your cardio ;)

My calf is better. I did upper body today. I think I upped my bench too quickly because I couldn't get my reps in. I did 80# 1 set of 4 3 sets of 3 1 set of 2 and 1 set of 1. Oh well, I think I'll leave the wt there and work on it. My goal is to do 4 sets of 6. The rest of the workout was ok. Some areas improved and some stayed the same.

Rose, I hope you got some sleep last night!!

Hey there! I was out of town for the weekend, but I managed to do GS Legs yesterday before I left home and today when I got here I did KPC: Intermediate drills + combos 1 and 2 premix followed by GS: C&T and abs. Besides all the BBQs and sweets around me I managed to stay on my diet. I had some chocolate though, but in moderation. I'm taking my journal and calculator with me now and I secretly write down everything lol! I mean, it's working so I need to keep it up.

It's unbelievable that we're still here. I'm pretty sure that without this check-in I would've never maintained my weight loss. I still have a couple to lose, but I haven't gained a significant amount of weight (just the normal 1-2lbs during TTOM and I always lose them). And I need new clothes and new jewelry! It was January 06 when a humiliating weigh in was my motivation to lose weight for good. It was humiliating because I've always been active and 178 is not a number you want to hear, you think you need to lose about 15-20 and all of a sudden is waaaay more than that. I said *the* number for the first time since it happened. Not even my mom knows it. I just wasn't keeping track of the amount of calories I was eating and I was also very depressed. Before that I hated scales and because of that I never kept track of my ups and downs with weight. I bought a scale and learned to embrace the number that it gave me twice a week. I also changed my diet for good, and added short cardios to most of my weight training sessions.

I managed to lose tons of weight with minimal sagging. I have a little bit on my inner thighs and around the upper thigh area, but it's not something that can't be fixed in the future. I'm pretty sure that it would've been worse had I lost the weight with dieting and cardio only. I definitely believe that losing a little bit of weight at the time and strength training helped me avoid sagging skin all over my body. I also learned not to be really bothered by the physical remnants of weight loss. Those can be fixed by a good doctor. The biggest lesson is that we need to lose weight and maintain it by following a healthy diet and exercise plan and keep doing it for life for our health, not because swimsuit season is coming. When I got back the results of my blood tests I got teary eyed. Every single thing was normal and I also had the blood pressure and oxygenation of an athlete! I had a sonogram done and the lady that did it was so impressed because she could see valves and arteries and all sorts of stuff she never sees on a normal sonogram and she said: "You must exercise a lot! I only see these on books!" and I didn't know what to say. I also went from never doing a push-up on my toes to doing GS: C&T's drop sets all on my toes (of course hitting the pause button after every set and resting for 10 seconds or so after every set, but still I can complete the drop sets :7). I really don't think about my sagging that much, the fact that I'm healthy and that I can do push ups on my toes is something that makes me happy. I can't wear a swimsuit now, but I can go to the beach and challenge a beach babe and she probably won't do as many push ups as I can. :p

So that's my little story and I wanted to thank you for being my check-in buddies. I've maintained my weight loss for 8 months now and I have less than 10 pounds left. Last weigh in was around 131-132 and it's supposed to be 125. I know I'll get there eventually, but there's no rush.

Have a nice week ladies and thanks for reading. :)

Rose, what an inspiring story!! I totally agree with everything you said about maintaining this for our health and not the looks. Of course looking good is a nice side effect ;) I am so proud of you for your wt loss and keeping it off. You are doing what many in this country (well, most) have not done!!! Lets all keep up the good work!!!

Rose, thanks so much for sharing your story. It is truly inspirational for others. Congratulations on your success. I have enjoyed being one of your check in buddies. I am sure it was therapeutic to be able to truly "say" the old weigh in number. Just know it is a number of the past. You are doing great. Keep it up.

It is TTOM for me...AARGH!

Affirm, I hope you are feeling better TTOM YUK!!

Rose, how's your hunt for a new job going? I hope you find something soon!

Eating is still on track. Had a bit more carbs today (not sweets- but pasta), but needed them for w/o tonight!! I did P90X legs and back. And I did a set of 7 chinups!!!!!! I've been working to get there forever!!! I did 5,7,5,5,5,5,4&4. I was disappointed in my first set since I normally do 6 on the first and second set. So when I got to the second set I was determined to at least do 6. I did the 6th rep and said go for 7. So I did. I was shaking and it was hard, but I did it! I really have to push myself past my comfort zone on these. And a little praying doesn't hurt either ;)

Wow, tomorrow is Thursday!! We should have a holiday every week :+

Hey ladies. I didn't exercise yesterday because I had a headache, but today I did LIC's step only premix. That is probably my favorite step premix from Cathe. I truly enjoy that one. Yesterday I cheated on my diet ugh...stress, but I've been doing better today.

Affirm - TTOM always sucks so hang in there.

Catherine - What kind of pasta do you eat? I eat the one that's made with whole grains. Job hunting is a pain in the butt I have to say. Nowadays every application has to be sent online so I'm pretty much obsessively checking out my email twice a day to see if I get a response from a couple of places. I'm hanging on to my current job though because I don't know if I'll find what I'm looking for and I don't want to quit my job if I don't find anything first. One of the applications I sent seems to be the perfect job for me, but they're processing the applications this week so I'll have to wait and see if I'm getting a call for an interview or not. Oh but I want that job soooo bad... we'll see.

Rose, I ate the worst kind of pasta- egg noodles LOL!! But it wasn't a huge serving. I do usually eat whole pasta.

As far as the job hunt goes, be patient. The right thing will come along. I find that life is like that. Even if I think I want something and know what's best, it isn't always!! Before I found my current job I was pursing another and really thought I wanted it. It didn't work out for various reasons. Six months later the job I have now came open and 2 years later I am so happy with the way things happened. So hang in there!!

I have only exercised once this week. Eating hasn't been bad though. TTOM just hasn't left me with much energy this week.

Rose, I didn't realize you were job hunting. I guess I missed that somewhere in our chatting. Good Luck. Keep us posted.

Fitfairy, I just recently looked at your pictures from the retreat. I couldn't open it when you first posted them and then I forgot all about them. You look great!

Affirm, hate TTOM draining energy x( It totally stinks!! At least you are eating well. I hope you recover soon. BTW thanks for the compliment on my pics!!

I am still eating good. Did upper body and abs tonight. My strength totally sucked though. I was tired and maybe should have taken a rest day. Oh well, will do better next time.

Hey ladies. I did Muscle Max (no abs) today. I had pasta for dinner and I went over my allowed amount of calories lol! I mean they were whole grains, but along with the sauce, chicken breast and everything else I ate 100 calories or so more than what I usually eat. It's okay though. At least I had light breakfast, lunch, and snacks today.

Affirm - Don't worry you'll get back on track with your workouts. I normally workout harder during the weekends because I have more time. I'm job hunting because my current job is not doing it for me anymore. I like it (don't love it; like it) and they don't pay me enough to make ends meet. It seems that everything out there has gotten really expensive and my salary stays the same. I want to buy a place because I'm tired of renting and do a couple of things that I just can't do as a single woman with my salary. I've sent several applications online and I'm just waiting for a call or an email. We'll see.

Catherine - Some days are better than others. If I feel tired, but still have a little bit of energy I usually test my body and do the first 10 mins or so of the workout I have planned for that day. After that time I know if my body will handle the rest of the workout or if I need to stop and rest. I never do those tests if I have a migraine or if I'm tired because it's TTOM, in those situations I just rest.

Today I had a really tough day, actually a horrible day, and I *just* found out I didn't get the job I wanted (and needed). So I'm back to square 1 again. It's just so hard. I need to let this sink in a bit. I don't know if I'll be back to post during the weekend (I'm trying to stay away from the computer so I don't have to think about that email), but I will post on Monday for sure. My mind is very fuzzy right now and I need a plan B. Hopefully I can come up with something reasonable.

I don't feel like exercising today, but I promise I will drag myself to a yoga class tomorrow. Take care ladies.

Today was a rest day for me. But I just finished a nice upper body stretch on my Yoga for stress relief DVD. I really need to do this more often. LOL I say that everytime I do it and then a few weeks go by and I pop it in again,....

Went to my favorite local restaurant for lunch and they had tirimisu in the dessert display :p But I didn't have any!! It's been maybe a month or so since I've had any  Don't worry, I'll indulge but while I've got the will to say no, I'm gonna. I did have a small square of dark chocolate instead.
