WHOOO HOOOOO!!! We have ONE MORE DAY. How exciting is that? Although it seems like many of us have decided to continue with this challenge into July and beyond. It does seem to have become a good habit, although it will be nice not being so totally restricted. A cookie would have come in handy on Monday, during my rotten day!

I am proud of you ladies that took this challenge, you did a good job!! Now go have some cake to celebrate.:p Just joking! You all did very well!!

You know, I didn't do this challenge with you because I LOVE CHOCOLATE and brownies and can't give it up. Now that the month is pretty much over, I am disappointed because I it didn't seem like that long and I wish I would have done it. And it would be such a great test of character, I think, to do without something for a while that you love.

How do you guys feel without sugar? Have you noticed any difference in your energy levels/headaches/appetite etc? I feel like such a wuss for not doing it.;( ;( ;( Maybe that will be my July challenge while you guys do....salt is it????? Anyways, you guys are awesome!

Hi everyone,

Well made my kids some Banana nut muffins this morning, and I caved in and ate one. I actually had 2 and after the first I put the other one back. And I grabbed a handful of grapes. That I the only thing I feel good about in the situation. I also still want to continue this no sweets challenge also.

I'm determined to make the rest of this day SF.

Have a Good day everyone!!

Missy,

I didn't do the challenge either. Chocolate was not something I was willing to give up for a month. It is my friend!:D

Missy,

The first few days were the hardest, I think. After that, it got easier and easier to say no to sweets (well, except during TTOM!). Now, every time DH goes to Dairy Queen for a Blizzard, I just say "No Thanks, none for me!" and I don't even have to think about it or go through an internal debate. I used to get tension headaches every day, but I haven't had ANY this month, and I feel great. I was not perfect this month at all - I had a few treats from DQ, and a couple of pieces of chocolate here and there. But it was a huge improvement over the way I had been eating before. I feel better and have really reduced my sugary cravings. Now, when I crave sweet things, it's almost always for FRUIT, instead of cookies or brownies. Things that used to be daily treats for me now taste too sweet. I am the LAST person who ever thought they would beat those sugar cravings, but I really think this month was a breakthrough for me. I'm going to continue down the path of reduced-sugar righteousness. ;)

Yeah! I was so glad I signed up for this. It will be kind of sad not checking in with all of you anymore. I won't be doing the no salt in July and I already drink enough water.

This has made me more aware of all my little bites and tastes of my kids treats/desserts. I still had a few during the month of June. Also, made me realize how many cakes my dh's family orders. The owners of the place we go to recently told me that they have an order from our family once a week. i think we financed the purchase of their new store!

Anyway, I think we all did a great job. Thirty days did go by rather quickly.

Good luck with the next challenge.

Kim - banana nut muffins aren't so bad!

I only had one cheat day, my daughter's birthday party, where I allowed myself cake and ice cream and that was the only day of the month that I had a RAGING headache! UGH! SOOOOOO not worth it! And like Emily, I find that everything tastes too sweet anymore and I would rather have an apple or some pineapple than a cookie. Much more satisfying.

I've learned this month that I am tempted nearly EVERY DAY with something sweet and it's just not necessary for me to indulge every single time something is offered or is just THERE. I would much rather save that occasional treat for something truly special or unique.

I think it was Cher (of all people!) that said something that's stuck with me: "Remember, it's not the last cookie (or brownie, or whatever) in the world. There will always be another one!"

You know, I haven't cheated and now I'm really intrigued to see how that first taste of something sweet is going to be, whether it's gonna be TOO sweet! I can't even imagine that:p

I'm really tempted to make those peanut butter cupcakes that someone posted a recipe for.

Cher... the pinnacle of wisdom. ;)

Alright, one of my coworkers had the audacity to bring in COOKIES today. Why couldn't he have waited until friday???? That is just so rude! ;)

Seriously though, I don't even really want a cookie. I mean, I kinda do, but I don't feel like "I gotta have one now or I'll positively die!". I bet the cookies aren't even all that good - they look like grocery store ones. :p

I know exactly how you feel. So much cleaner and things that didn't taste so sweet before taste very sweet now and you can really savor them, find more subtlety in the tastes.
My FIL's b-day was this Sunday and there were two cakes, one a giant frosted chocolate chip cookie, a double chocolate glazed bundt cake, and then french vanilla icecream and strawberries. I didn't want any, not even the strawberries b/c my stupid MIL had sugared them (they were literally picked fresh from the field that morning and she SUGARED them! UGH!) But I couldn't wait to get home and have my salad for dinner. Corn on the cob is SO much sweeter, food just tastes better. And most stuff tastes too sweet, hard to believe but true.
I made double chocolate chunk cookies (vegan, whole wheat, soy flour, old fashioned oats, applesauce, 85% cocoa chunks, raisins, stevia) this weekend for my husband and there was only 1/2 cup of brown sugar split among 48 cookies. I had one and froze the rest, but they were so good I don't even consider them cheating b/c there was less added sugar in each than in my soy milk! LOL. ;)
This is definitely something I'll continue w/ just occasional sweets.

I am still doing well here. I have had 2 cheats this whole month. And I finally bought some of that Kashi cereal that everyone raves about! It is really good! You could just eat it out of the box. I might try some with a banana and peanut butter for a snack.

One more day! Go us!

Happy to oblige!
Double Chocolate Chunk Cookies (all the "C's" in the title stand for "Clean" LOL)
2 c. whole wheat flour
1/2 c. soy flour
1/2 c. old fashioned oats
salt
1 tsp. baking soda
3 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
2 tsp. powdered stevia
1/4 tsp. cinnamon

3/4 c. unsweetened applesauce
1/4 c. water
1/2 c. light soymilk (I used Silk Light Original, less sugar)
2 egg whites or enough Ener-G egg replacer to sub for 2 eggs
1 Tbsp. white vinegar
1 tsp. vanilla

1 large bar DARK chocolate chopped into chunks. I used the Lindt 85% cocoa kind, but use your fave
3/4 c. raisins
These would be good with nuts if you liked nuts in your cookies

In a large bowl combine all dry ingredients, in another bowl mix all the wet ingredients then pour into the dry and stir until JUST combined. Stir in chocolate, raisins, and/or nuts. Then drop by rounded teaspoonsfuls onto ungreased nonstick cookie sheets. Dampen your fingers and flatten any weird peaks b/c they don't spread much when baking. Put into a 350 degree oven for about 7 minutes. Makes approx. 48 cookies at about 54 calories apiece.

And of course, they're even better w/ milk and/or PEANUT BUTTER!
Yes, I know I have problem, you don't have to stare at me like that
:+

I'm being really good. My allergies have made me feel so sick that I'm not even hungry, so there's no temptation!

That cookie recipe does sound great, though...

Well, thank goodness this challenge is almost over. Between these and the Peanut Butter Cupcakes, I may be in trouble this weekend:p

Thanks Luna,
I kind of made it up by myself and just kept adding, measuring, mixing until they looked/felt right. And they are so clean, for a cookie LOL. I forget who mentioned this, but 85% cocoa is almost like taking a vitamin;-)

Good Afternoon Ladies!

Yep...one more day. I can honestly say that it wasn't horrible! There were a few days I really wanted something sweet, but I ate something healthy instead. Might I add that I did copy and paste the PB cupcake racipe and the cookie recipe....just in case there is a rainy day in my future....
