No Sweets Check-In - June 22, 2005

NINE DAYS LEFT (including today)!!!

How awesome is that? You know, I can't see myself going back to my old ways. I'll have sweet stuff on special occasions, but I'm certainly not going to be hitting the cookies five times a day anymore.

I'm not sure I've seen any physical changes from this, but mentally, yes. For one thing, I've had to learn to snack more healthfully.

Thanks to all of you for joining me and offering moral support!

Hi Wendy,

Well ofcourse I had a hedgehog today. But have you noticed that without any sugary foods, sweet stuff just tastes so sweet it's not so good? I made one of my kids favourite desserts last week: self-saucing chocolate pudding and I really like it so I had one too (when I failed at not eating any sugar) and it just didn't taste so good. Just like the ice cream I had that same day. Wasn't very good. Same thing with the hedge hog today.

Son no. 1 said I didn't eat enough cookies and shoved the cookie jar in my face: "have some" he said, "you know you'll love it". Darn kids, never supportive :(

Hey shelley,

I don't think none of us will eat sweets the same way again. I think in moderation is good. this challenge has definitely been rewarding. I made it through yesterday and hopefully today.

Hey come up with something else so I can particpate when I get back from the beach.

Yeah Shelley I agree that most of us will hink twice before eating a sugary treat. However July 1st is a day I look forward to :) I may wait until July 4th though. A better selection and occasion to eat something yummy! SO what have we decided on for July challenge?

Terri

Off work today (comp day for working this weekendx( ), so this like my Saturday.

DD and I are going to run errands, etc. Going to Carrabba's for supper tonight. YAY. Chicken Bryan with Caprino cheese.... OMG... can't wait. No chocolaty, googy dessert though, you know those with the brownie, topped with a ton of premium ice cream, topped with chocolate sauce, topped with crumbled cookies.... oh... sorry.. I got carried away.... Nope, I'm feeling strong today... "I think"..

You guys are doing so good! I'm so proud of ya's :+ you have more willpower then I will ever have. Wil there be a challenge every month? is that how it will work?

I do believe we're going to try for a challenge each month. Next month is going to be the "drink enough water" challenge, aiming for 64 oz a day. And we'll add something else to that. Just have to decide what:)

Something has definitely changed when I crave a fruit smoothie so badly that nothing else sounds good. And juices are tasting way too sweet anymore. I look at sugary sweets and immediately see a massive migraine and I back away quickly.

HELP!!! Our secretary is pulling a big cart around the office and it's filled with big, moist pieces of CARROT CAKE! Help me! I don't know if I can resist - they look so good!

Had a little nibble of a very large cookie at yet another b-day party yesterday. My dd went to a party at Libby Lu. What a cute party place for little girls!

Wow, nine days left! Where did that time go!

As far as changes, I know TTOM wasn't bad at all. I don't know if it was a result of this challenge. I tried to watch sugar as much as possible, however. More than baked goods. I cut down on my daily trail mix bar (12g of sugar), too.

Way to go everybody.

I was wondering if I make my challenge something different besides the water can I check in with you all still. I drink plenty of water. I was thinking o my challenge as being no more fat free chips and crackers. Just curious! Unless you all want to do that as a challenge sometime. I mean I can wait...lol.

Terri

Terri - I will gladly do the chips/crackers thing with you. I eat WAY too many crackers. As crackers go, I think they're not bad, but they're still crackers. I'm doing the water too, but I'm up for a chips/crackers thing:) Maybe I'll include "salty snacks" in there. Tortilla chips, crackers, regular chips, popcorn, etc. Whaddya think?

Ok that sounds great Shelley! So no more salty snacks for us in July then! Now excuse me while I go polish off some fat free pringles:)

Thanks Shelley!

Terri

Don't make me get out my wooden spoons, Lunacat! :p

You know what, I don't consider sweet potato pie to be a sweet because sweet potatoes are so darn good for you! I mean, SURE there's a buttery crust and probably loads of marshmallows, but MOST of it is sweet potatoes, right? So it's totally healthy! :D

No marshmallows, but there was honey and cinnamon and brown sugar in there. And, the crust was buttery to bejeezus and back! :9

Oh, man....sweet potato pie is better than sex in my book. Luna, you should be hailed as a hero, not shunned as a failure.

Angie

Terri and Shelley - I avoid salt during TTOM because of bloating but I don't think I could do it for the entire month! I bow down to your unwavering resolve! I'll stick to drinking more water.
