No longer a Mindy virgin

I did my first Mindy tape today, CIA 2101 -with a step and hi/lo interval workouts and body pump party, though I only did the step and watched the hi/lo and pump party. I must say, this tape's pretty good!

Folks were right about her cuing - you had to watch the tv to see what leg she's on, but it's easy enough that after a couple times through it should be automatic. It was different from yet complimentary to IMAX - her step intervals were all on the step, whereas a lot of Cathe's intervals were plyos. Mindy saves the plyos for her hi/lo interval workout. It was also challenging in that some of Mindy's intervals were "as fast as you can go."

All in all, I felt this was a harder alternative to IMAX than Intense Moves, my previous alternate.

The other tape I got, "Step This Way," I took out after about 15 minutes. More than once I stood there wondering what the heck she was doing. In fairness, though, I will give it another chance since it looked like a lot of fun. Maybe I'm just a klutz.

Hi Rose,

Like you, I find Mindy's interval video a nice compliment to Imax and I save Intense Moves for interval days I'm not really feeling "up to" a full interval workout.

Be careful and forewarned about the interval where you "speed peg leg" and the one where you do the "blocker" segment, stepping up and turning all 4 ways on and over the step, then come down and do the blocking move side to side. YOU CAN KILL YOURSELF with those! I have tripped over my step so many times doing those 2 intervals I have lost count! You get use to the speed (eventually) but I'm not the most coordinated person to begin with so I found Mindy a little hard to keep up with initially. It's gotten easier with time and repetition, but I shelved her for weeks when I first got it, she frustrated the heck out of me! But I like her interval hi/lo a lot! Probably because there's nothing for me to trip over! :)

Rose:

I think Step this Way is Kristen Kagen. Right?

I tried this once and never again. Waste of money. I don't find Rhythmic step difficult at all, I am not that choreo challenged, but this Kagen tape frustrated me totally because she makes too many little changes, she hardly ever repeats anything and the heart rate barely moves, that's why she has to throw the intensity blasts in there, so the heart rate will do something!

I offered my copy of the tape here several months ago and no-obe took me up on the offer! Wonder why!

I have that Mindy Mylrea tape and I also have a problem with that "blocker" interval. I don't like it at all. The move feels too fast, and after doing it a couple of times you're pretty fatigued, which means a good chance of tripping on the step!! I was thinking about trying some sort of modification but haven't really thought of a good one. Any suggestions???

Stepqueen.................

Here's my modification for that interval:

I just do 4 sets of "double time" steps (up,up,down, down) on the step while she's turning and doing hers. That way I'm keeping the same foot pace, but not taking a chance on injuring myself or tripping over the step, because I'm stationary behind the step in the same place.

Mindy's Great!

I was surprised to read on another site that some people think Mindy is obnoxious and irritating. I love her personality. The tapes don't seem endless, and she's fun and motviating. I hate tapes where it seems like they're just giving a memorized speech.

The cuing can be poor, but since the moves are usually simple, it's ok. Some other CIA tapes, like one I have with Helen van der Berg have awful cuing and production. None of the people in the video are on the same foot- they always seem confused. But they're good workouts!

If you want to buy more CIA videos, I'd try to see if there's a preview on collagevideo.com since some of the tapes are great, while others aren't as fun.

RE: Stepqueen.................

That's a GREAT idea!!!! :)

Will definitely do that the next time I do that tape!!!
