Nike signs Michael Vick

I am so bummed. I really loved Nike's stuff. Not usually a boycotter, but I have to make an exception in this case.

OK, off to email Nike..........

I am shocked. Without going into any of my opinions about Michael Vick, I am just surprised Nike would want him for endorsements. A lot of people feel very strongly about what he did. I think it's just bad business.

This isn't accurate. Nike hasn't signed Vick for endorsements or any contractual agreement. They have agreed to supply him with product...basically sell shirts (or whatever) to him.

Vick's agent is the one spouting off about a "relationship" with Nike.

FWIW, I'll never root for the Eagles again. I'm still holding out hope that they'll trade McNabb...so I can still root for him.

ETA: They are giving him product, not selling. http://content.usatoday.com/communi...s-no-new-endorsement-deal-with-michael-vick/1

Looks like Michael Vick's "representative" jumped the gun a bit. Signed a deal and just wearing the product are two totally different things.

What was the guy thinking?

Yes, but wearing Nike's product in public (esp if bc he is a celeb figure) he is promoting it. They may not be contracting w/ him, but they ARE using him to promote/advertise their product. I don't own any Nike clothing, and their shoes hurt my feet, but if I did, I'd be ditching them and certainly not buying any more. Mr. Vick deserves a special place in Hell.

ITA. If I owned a sports-oriented business like Nike, I think I'd be asking him to please NOT wear my stuff, just so my company wouldn't be associated with him in any way. I wouldn't want to contribute to his career or potential NFL success in any way.

Obviously companies can't really refuse to sell to him, but they don't have to seek out connections with him either. Bad call by Nike.

CYNTHIA!!! I was thinking about you the other day, wondering where you had been. I haven't been on much though myself, so figured I had just missed you. How are you doing?

I sure hope Nike would not be wanting this jacka$$ to wear their items, or to promote through wearing, or whatever. They, and every other company, should be trying to stay far and away from him.

You are so sweet! I'm doing OK. I've been busy with my boxer girl. She just turned 9 and we discovered she has Cushing's disease along with some other problems.:( DH and I have been driving(2 hours one way) her to see a specialist for treatments. I check in here off an on.:)

I hope the treatments are helping her feel better. Rascal and I are sending her lots and lots of healing vibes.

{{{{{Cynthia}}}}} I, too, was wondering where you've been. I'm so sorry about your baby and all that you're going through with it. You have my thoughts and prayers.

Cynthia - oh, how stressful. Prayers and hugs your way! I am glad that you were able to find a specialist - for the right one, the drive is well worth it! Keep us posted. More hugs...Shana

Thanks Michele and Shana!

We feel very fortunate to have a University vet school in driving distance. They have the most up to date equipment and specialist in every area of veterinary medicine. Once the internal specialist has her medication and disease under control (about 3 months) we have to address a mass on her spleen. Normally they remove the spleen but since Mercedes has Cushing's they cannot do surgery until it's under control. Cushing's slows the healing.:( She is in the best hands and the medication seems to be restoring her energy.
