Nike + running shoes

Has anyone else tried the Nike + running shoes that have the sensor that you use with an adaptor for your nano? I just got mine this week and love the nano feed back. It talks to me along my journey. Hopefully they will make me want to get out there and jog longer & farther.

I haven't heard of these! So I'm sure this sounds like a silly question, but what does it say to you? :)

If I set my ipod nano for distance it will tell me "You've reached your half way point." As you get close to your set distance, it will say ,"300 meters remaining, "200 meters remaining", etc. At the end it will say something like "you have completed your set course" You can set it for time, distance, or manual. It keeps track of your time, distance, average mph and you can upload it onto the Nike+ website. I've heard you can use the sensor with shoes other than Nike if you attach it right. I saw a couple of websites that tell you how to use others shoes. For me, I love Nike shoes and needed a new pair so I bought the Nike + which has a little slot under the insole where the sensor sits and then I bought the adaptor/sensor to use with it.

go to www.nikeplus.com and play the Tune your run video commercial and it gives you a sample of what you hear. You still play whatever songs you have on your ipod nano and the voice just breaks in for a few seconds. The coolest thing for me so far is each time I go farther, an athlete celbrity's voice comes on and congratulates me. The first was Lance Armstrong.

I've seen the little chips and I have an IPod Nano. The chips are only $29.00 - so they are a great deal. Do you know how it calculates distance? I swear by my Ryka's, but if I can attach the little chip to my Ryka's I might be interested in this.

oookay! Thank you! I am a Nike wearer also. I love my Ryka's for stepping and hi/lo but nothing beats my Nikes for running! Thanks for this info - I'll have to check them out!

Here is a web site that shows one way to attached sensor to non-Nike Plus shoes.

The way it calculates miles is 2 ways. First it comes preset which is probably based on an average stride length(but one size does not fit all, LOL). I tested it and it said I went .65 miles when I only went .5. So I had to use the calibrate option. You program in a specific distance that you know, (for me it was from my house to the bridge = .5 miles). Then you run that distance at your normal steady pace. Stop the nano at the end of that distance and it now knows your stride length. You can also calibrate for walking. The next time I used it, the nano was right on at my 1 mile mark. There will be slight variances due to the user running different paces and changing up their stride, but I think it is way better than having to get in the car and drive the path you just ran since I don't alway run along the road. Also I have read that when used on the treadmill, it may vary from the what the TM says, probably because your stride is different on a TM since it is moving and you are not.

FYI, The sensor only works with a nano and you have to make sure you have the current version, which you can download from Itunes and Apple. The sensor comes with all the instructions.
