Night sweats

Snazzy

Cathlete
I just turned 37, and I'm still on the pill. But I'm starting to have night sweats. They show up intermittently. Haven't had them in a LOOOONNNNGGG time, but each of the past two nights I've had them. Nothing like freezing to death from all the sweat on your body, LOL.

So....could this be the beginning of menopause, or pre-menopause, or whatever comes first? I guess I've been denial...I'm really not up on this phase of life. I still think I'm 21 in my head. Who the heck is that woman in the mirror with so little collagen left?

From what I've read, the changes of perimenopause (pre-menopause) often start as early as 35, though the symptoms are so slight most women don't notice. Could there be another reason for the sweats? I use a heated mattress pad (not a blanket: heat rises, so that makes no sense to me), and when I go to bed, I often am a bit chilly, but I'll wake up later, and find out that I turned the pad up too high! Maybe you've got enough blankets on for how cool you are when you first go to bed, then as your body heat warms the bed, you get too hot?

I'm 47, and I swear the woman in the mirror sometimes looks like someone I don't feel like! I once decided to remain "ever 25," and I think that mentally it's working, but the *#&@! mirror (and gravity--whoever invented THAT should be sued!) shows differently.

Snazzy,

I am right there with you. Just turned 37 in November and since last year I have been feeling warmer than usual at night. My husband notices it more than I do and complains that I cause him to sweat at night just by being beside me.
We have a toy fox terrier who loves to go under the blankets with me when I am watching the news or something in the evening. She doesn't stay under the blankets very long now and gets out panting from the heat I now produce. LOL. I use to get cold so easily so I actually am enjoying the warm up, but I don't wake up feeling sweaty..sometimes just kick the blankets off, if that. This time of the year, I think feeling alittle warmer is a blessing because I hate the cold January brings anyways.

The very fact you are on the pill says you SHOULD NOT be having night sweats or hot flashes. The reason your body heats up is your brain signaling it's looking for estrogen. You're getting estrogen in your BC pill unless it's the kind that does not contain estrogen.

See, that's the part I find odd, I guess. And yes, even during the day I've been warmer than usual. I normally freeze to death year round.

As for the too many blankets, etc....it's not that kind of sweat, as crazy as I probably sound. I can workout till I haven't a dry spot on me (I'm a natural sweater anyway...pours out of me when I'm hot), and it doesn't smell bad...even if I clean the house before I jump into the shower.

This night sweat stuff is foul. My shirt will be soaked through, as well as the sheets. And it wreaks!!!

OK I find this thread fascinating. I'm 37 & I've had night sweats for years. It could be 40 degrees in my bedroom & I'll still wake up drenched. I run my window a/c all year round, even when it's below zero outside.

So it can't be perimenopause (for me anyway)--maybe it has something to do w/exercise? Metabolism perhaps? I'm very interested in this b/c I didn't even realize it happened to others.

Not to scare anyone, but night sweats can be a symptom of many things such as a systemic infection, hematological cancers, hormonal imbalance, metabolical disturbances, etc. Since yours only started a couple of days ago, I'd watch it for the next few days, but if it continues, mention it to a doctor.

I'm 51 and going through menopause. I put my heat on 62, and sleep with the window open and fan on and still sweat. By morning though, I'm chilled and pull the covers up. Unfortunately, then it's time to get up!!!

I don't think it is a menopause thing because I just turned 32 years old and have them pretty much every night. Some nights worse than others and it is yucky and stinkyx( . I noticed the change once I started eating cleaner, less bad carbs, lean protein, good fats. I think it may be a metabolism thing, however, I have been known to be wrong and I skipped med school in college.;) . I often ask DH if he was hot the night before and usually it is just me (he doesn't workout or eat clean to the same tune as I)

When I first got them a couple of years ago, I freaked out, because I looked it up as a symptom on the Internet! LOL But they went away. Are just back now. Doctor just chalked it up to hormones. When I went for my physical a couple of months ago, I was pronounced their healthiest patient, with the best blood in the Valley! LOL I know they didn't check specifically for those types of problems, but otherwise I feel FANTASTIC!

It's taken me 5 years of diet and exercise to be able to say I feel FANTASTIC! LOL

I am also 37 and have had them on and off, I take a good B-complex along with my multi-vitiman and also use Progestrone cream. I have not had them for the longest time, but I am sure they will be back in the near future. It's a hormonal thing. Lori D.

I'm 35 and get them occasionally.

I'm blaming it completely on the two dogs, the cat, and the husband that I'm sharing the bed with! :D

It could be metabolizm. Men usually don't feel as cold in bed because they have more muscle, which is more metabolically active.

I get them occasionally when I eat badly. I'm diabetic, although my diabetes is controlled by diet and exercise. When I eat too many sugary carbs, my sugar shoots up, and I sweat all night. I wake up with a wet nightie and wet sheets. It's a great incentive to eat clean. :)

OH MY GOSH!!! I have the same set up going on....except we have a dog door, so the normally outdoor kitties come in to sleep on us in the winter. We have FOUR crawl up there with the 2 dogs!! (we live in the country, so they are rodent control...got to be nice to them, LOL)

I used to get them quite frequently, but now we keep the bedroom at 58 at night. More than that, I think 2tbls high lignan flax oil per day, evening primrose and eating clean have helped keep them to a minimum.

I'm 25 and i have gotten night sweats, hot flashes, mood swings and belly pooch(never gained weight there before) ever since i started having to take bc continiously as a result of endo. i had (another) surgery 2 years ago in May and haven't had a period since, so all these symptoms are driving me nuts!!!! Night sweats are particularly annoying though! i used to be cold all the time and now i freeze everybody out! it's a hormone thing! i even had my thyroid tested....have you tried that yet??

Have you recently started any new medications? Night sweats can be a side effect with some meds.

I'm soon to be 36 and thats where mine come from, and they ARE really annoying! Not only do you wake up freezing, but the bed gets so soggy! EWWWW! That is the main reason I sleep in a t-shirt--to help soak it up! It's gross but part of life for me. :(

You might start with your pharmacist and ask about any of your medications. He can find out about any lesser known side effects AND he is easier/quicker to get a hold of than your doctor! I agree with the others though about asking your Doctor. Here's hoping there is a "simple" explaination for your sweats! Keep us posted!
