Hi Cathe. I just started working out with you about 6 months ago with you on FitTv. I love your workouts and wish I had known about you when I lived 10 minutes from your gym, now I'm in Florida so I have to rely on TV. I just bought the LoMax, CoreMax and StretchMax. I want to get a total body weight training DVD to really tone my muscles. I'm trying to get back into shape after having my kids(wake-up call, my baby is now 4!!!). Can you suggest one of your workouts to get me started? I also wanted to say thanks for having these forums. As a stay-at-home mom and being on a budget, I can't afford a gym much less a personal trainer. I really appreciate everyone's advice!!!

Hi, 3kids! (That's 3 more than I could ever handle!)

If you're totally new to resistance / strength training, I'd suggest your next purchase be "Low Impact Step + Body Sculpting", a real bargain at about $22.00 and change. The Body Sculpting workout will be a good introduction into traditional strength training.

The next step up for resistance training, I think, would be a DVD with one or more total-body workouts. Muscle Max, The Power Hour / Maximum Intensity Strength / Body Max 3-workout DVD, or the Supersets / Push-Pull DVD. You might also consider, as a next step, the Boot Camp / Muscle Endurance DVD; Boot Camp contains some nosebleed cardio (a subject near and dear to my heart{rate}) and some good short resistance cycles for all muscle groups, and Muscle Endurance is a good . . . well, muscle endurance workout (and what was your first clue, A-Jock?!). Great premixes on that one too.

When you've build your way up from those, consider investing in some split-set serieses such as the Pure Strength Series, the Slow and Heavy Series (a really focused, intense series designed for premium strength and mass-building) and the latest Gym Styles.

HTH - welcome aboard!

Thanks for all the great advice. I was actually thinking of the Muscle Endurance DVD. I love the DVD's I have now, even my little guys get into them. My 6 year old can do the levitation holds in CoreMax which really kills me(she is only 40 lbs though!) I found out though that my DH ordered PUB/PLB for me as a surprise. He can't keep a secret. Really looking forward to them kicking my butt!!! Did I just say that? Thanks again for you're help!
