On 12/28 I ordered 2 pairs of clearance shoes from Newport News. They were $14.99/pr with $8 off if you got two pairs. I got 2 pairs, which brought them to $10.99 each, with tax and shipping the order came to $30.95, not bad for 2 pairs of shoes. That is what the confirmation email shows and what my acct was debited for on 12/29. Today I got the shipping confirmation email which shows the price for each pair at $14.99 and no tax, but with shipping bringing the total to $38.95. I checked my bank acct, the orig charge had been reversed and reposted for $38.95. I DID NOT authorize them to take $38.95. It won't overdraw the account or anything, but that's not cool! I sent them a very nice/nasty email, with copies of the 2 confirmation emails they send me and explained they were authorized to take $38.95 from my account, only $30.95. I simply stated that if the price had changed btwn the time I ordered and they time they shipped, I can't help that, and they need to honor the original price it was purchased at in the original confirmation. I also told them the money needs to be back in my account by 5pm 01/02 (today is a holiday) or I will call the bank, dispute the charge, and state they are commiting card fraud bc that is not what they were authorized to do. So far I have gotten an auto reply email that they will respond w/in 24 hrs to my inquiry. I've purchased a few things from them in the past, but I won't again. I wonder how often they do this to people? If enough people don't catch $8, that is a considerable amount of extra cash. I also think they are owned by the Speigel people, which alot of people shop at. Can you imagine the people who are potentially getting ripped off? I know its only $8 but if I had purchased alot of stuff, it could potenially be much more. Even if they fix it, should I call the bank and report it? They were not told to take that much money out of the account.
