New Years Eve ideas

Hey all! I am looking for New Year’s Eve suggestions for something to do! BF and I have his daughter for the Eve holiday and I want to do something more fun than sitting there in our sweats, eating & drinking, and waiting for the ball to drop. We usually get Chinese food, hang out (put her to bed for a while until 11:00) and then celebrate.

Truth is that I feel very “old married couple– ish” this year and I don’t want to do the same ol’ thing. NO offense to married couples here. I think that being an old married couple is a GREAT thing in one sense but I shouldn’t feel like I’ve been married for 50 years when I am thirty and unmarried! I don’t want to go out to a club (b/c Bf’s daughter is only 11 and I do want to spend time with her too), but I want something a little off the beat and path and fun.

Do you have any traditions or suggestions to help with this situation!? Our friends are not really around to hang out this year. I don’t mind being in the house at all (and in fact, I prefer it ), but there has to be something that we can do to make this year different and more exciting. Help!

Sometimes when we want to shake things up, we do something wacky like go bowling. You may not be able to get in after 8 PM, but going in the afternoon might be fun. They may even have some special deals.

We have a 5 and 4 yr old girls. We have been running and running this holiday and have decided to spend the night playing games with them. They are just learning Parcheesi and checkers. My 4 yr old plays for blood! We were invited to a party that includes kids, but we don't know a lot of the people going and have elected to enjoy each other.

I know games kind of sound boring, but my husband and I used to play backgammon and drink wine on our dates. What you choose to bet is your own business!!!!! We are whipping out the backgammon game this year as well.

New Year's is a hard holiday because everyone looks like they are having more fun than you are! We always save some of our fireworks and this year we bought some silly string.

I can always remember when I was in my 20's or even late teens (I'm 31 now)I always wanted to go out on New Year's Eve and party, party, party. Now I'm happy to just order in some food, stay home, and watch a movie. We've gone to a movie or to a local event previous years. I live about 30 mins from St Louis, MO and they have an event called "First Night". It is alcohol free family fun with plenty of great food plus games and things for the kids. We've also gone bowling with friends too. Good luck.

You cold bring out your sleeping bags in the living room and have a slumber party. Watch movies, and play cards or a board game?

This year we are staying home. I have an 8 and 9 year old. I told them they could have a slumber party. We have lots of board games from Christmas to play. The first one to fall asleep will get shaving cream in the face, or something else funny.

Happy New Year!

thank you ladies, for your input and ideas. I also put my BF up to the challenge of thinking of something new and different to do. when I told him, he said "well, I kind of liked the idea of sitting here in my pj's waiting for the ball to drop. Is that bad?" :)
