I'm 39 5'5 and 187lbs. I'd like to loose 60lbs but am focused on 40.
I've lifted weights in my 20's as well as step. Just wanted some in put on what Cathe tape I should start out with?

I've started walking 40min 2x a week. My weakness is sweets so any suggestion on curbing that would help too.

Thanks!

Hey there. Congrats on beginning your weight loss journey!:)

If you feel that you would be able to catch on to more intricate step choreography then you could start out with the body blast series. You can always adjust the intensity to suit your needs. It's not one of Cathe's tougher series though it is considered advanced.

If you need to start at the very beginning for choreo purposes or conditioning purposes then go with either basic step/body fusion and/or low impact step. They are much easier choreo that focuses on the beginner to intermediate exerciser.

When I began with Cathe I had been exercising for some time with the Firm and with other work outs as well. I had to start at the beginning with Cathe though because I was not familiar with her step choreography. I bought basic step/body fusion and my obsession quickly took off from there!

Have fun!:)

Hallo and welcome!

I drink lots of water. Eat fruit and salad. Stay busy!
I have a sweet tooth too!:p

Keep up the good work and good luck!

Oh the sweet tooth is a KILLER! Funny...I never had much of a sweet tooth until I started seriously watching what I ate and exercising about 5 years ago. Before that I could care less about chocolate and all that garbage but now? OMG, I'd KILL for it at times! I am hard pressed to turn down dessert these days when it's offered. ACK! LOL :9 }( :9

When I started Cathe I had about 50 lbs. to lose...my first DVDs were Muscle Max and the Gym Styles, and then I quickly kept adding more. I had been doing the Firm (plus other cardio) for about 3 months prior...still, it was a leap - Cathe is tough - so in the beginning, I had to just do what I could and work up to it.

For weight loss, I would recommend circuits - like Boot Camp or LIC.

As far as sweets, I like Riesen candies because they give me a small chocolate fix, but they are so chewy that I can't eat that many.

Good luck!

Congratulations on finding Cathe, and good luck with your weight loss!!

I agree with the above poster -- you may want to buy Basic Step / Body Fusion / Low Impact Step. I found Cathe only about 6 weeks ago, and I have already mastered those 3 and moved on to more advanced choreography.

As for the sweet tooth -- in my experience, you are just going to have to suffer for a couple weeks. It's hard, but you have to tell yourself no. After awhile, you will stop craving them.

Welcome and congrats on discovering Cathe!

I agree with the above posters-start out with Basic step/body fuiosn/low impact step!

I still kinda new to cathe, and I've mastered all the beginner WO and love them! I had to do what I could at the begining and evenutally I could do the whole workout!(now Im getting ready for some more purchases, poor credit cardx()

And the way I handle a sweet tooth is ...I don't buy any! If theres not in the house,I can't eat them! I eat the smart ones desserts(if I have to have chocolate for that time of the month) or fruit I do however treat myself every now and then!

Good luck!

Body Blast is good. My personal favorite series to do when I've been away from exercise for awhile and need to get back into it, though, is Cross Train Express. The cardio segments are only half an hour and the weight segments are just 10 - 15 minutes. I would work up to something more challenging then.

Cathe has some beginner and intermediate workouts too, thought I've never done them. I'm sure they're great. All of her workouts are the bomb.

Welcome!

My first Cathe workout was the CTX series, and three years later, I still use it. It is good too because the moves are found in other workouts. I have to say, I did not really see any changes in body, weight until I changed my eating habits. Good luck and have fun with it. Melissa

Thanks so much for all the info and encouragement!!!!

I'll soon be posting before & after pics to get me motivated.

Good luck to everyone on your own fitness journey.

Peace

Don't we all love food... LOL...
JUST SAY NO!! It is really hard. Fat free dressing verses ranch... AARGH.. It is tough, but gets easier...
I started out with the gs series. LO- max is a fav of mine. I will have to say after the GS series, the new ones then pyramids..

My advice is do a little , even 1/2 a dvd a day or everyother to recover better till you build up. Don't over do it or you will quit.
Start with 3-5-8 weights. Do not try to do what Cathe does at 1st..It will come trust me. Ask most of these girls. Alot use 30-40# for 1 arm rows now and started with 8... It takes time. You didn't get out of shape in a month, it is going to take longer than a month to get back..

Don't try to do 2 hrs a day.... 1/2 hr-1 is enough at 1st. Build up... Before long you will be rolling and wanting more. It becomes addicting.
I listen to me. if i feel like i can tacke alot i do, some days i don't.
Strong days and weak days.. Tired, strong, that ttom, what ever. Lots of sleep, no sleep.. Makes a difference..

Good luck.
Oh, write down everything you eat. Don't cheat. You will eat less when you look at that trust me..Write evey little crumb.
Like Dr. Oz says. Cut 50 cal a day and you will loose weight..
I don't want to write more , so i don't eat it..

Good luck and keep posting.Help is here..
