New to Cathe--Please Help--Fat Loss

Cathlete
I have been reading through the forums here and I must say that all of you are such a help and inspiration to each other, that I felt compelled to join and ask for some assistance!!!

I have been reading through some of the DVD Rotation threads and was looking specifically for a rotation that encourages weight loss. I am only 5'2", but I weight about 150lbs!!! AHHHHHH!!!!!x(

I am desperate to lose at LEAST 25lbs and would very much like to do a fat loss rotation. I know that there is one up (done in 2003), but I was wondering if there was a "newer" (is that a word?!) fat loss rotation that incorporated some of her "newer" material?

I am sure this topic has been posted to death, but I thought I would try again for some fresh perspective!

OH---I would consider myself an intermediate exerciser that tends to build muscle like crazy. Not kidding you!! When I was born, my mom said the first thing she noticed was my deltoids!!! For this reason, I tend not to lift heavy weights.

Thank you in advance for your advice and your expertise!!!!

:D

Ok, a couple of years back Cathe posted a rotation that was supposed to help a person lose 20-30 pounds as fast as they can and still being healthy. Here is the link to it:

I would have to look at it again to see what workouts she used to be able to help you substitute certain workouts. I know that some are slow and heavy and I would suggest maybe substituting the gym styles for those. The CTX workouts, they are hard to substitute. If IMAX 2 is suggested, obviously IMAX 3 could be used. And any hour long straight cardio could be subed with any other hour long straight cardio workout.
Same thing with any circuit style workouts.
Now, if you build muscle easily, as I do myself. Maybe use your own body weight instead of using weights during the lower body workouts. On the upper body workouts use light weight, like 10 lb or under.

Hopefully this will help. Of course you have to clean up your diet, this means eating foods as close to their natural state os possible and avoid anything white.

Thank you Kathy for your prompt help and response!!! I appreciate the link as well as the suggestions to use my own body weight instead of weights.

I guess I will just have to break down and purchase the CTX series, which I thought I could maybe substitute, but if they are hard to substitute, then I probably should just buy them!!

Also, do you have any suggestions as far as any websites or literature that has good suggestions for "clean eating", as you called it?

That would be helpful information!!!

Roses -

Welcome! Always good to "see" someone new! Where are you fitness-wise right now? I ask because in the rotations section of the forum, you can find the August '05 and the January '06 rotations which are designed to help you shed pounds, but I would not try either of these if you are not quite up to the advanced level yet. They both are basically 90 minutes a day of cardio and circuits designed to help you lose weight. But they are tough. If you are not up there yet, almost any blend of cardio and circuit will work well.

One thing that I've found - if you do plan to increase your workouts, be prepared with extra good clean food. A lot of people have done these and said that they were so hungry that any weight loss was tempered by the increased food intake. Be aware that that may happen, and make sure you have the proper food on hand to compensate a bit.

Clean eating is basically food as close to natural as possible - cut out the preservatives... Someone said - if it grows in the ground or eats something that grows in the ground - that's clean. I've also heard that if the food has any of the following five categories in the first 5 ingredients, run from it:

1. Enriched anything (like enriched flour...)
2. Partially Hydrogenated anything...
3. High Fructose...
4. Sugar
5. Saturated Fat

It's a very simple list, but you might be surprised when you start looking at ingredients...

But I honestly prefer to look at things I CAN do rather than those I can't, so make sure you do eat a lot of fruits and veggies. Salads with healthy toppings and light dressing before lunch and dinner help to fill you up so you eat less. 5-6 small meals a day works better for a lot of people than 3 big meals...

Good luck...

Hi Rose! I see you've already gotten some great advice but just wanted to say Welcome to Cathe's place! Also, GOOD LUCK with your new goals. I recommend getting the CTX Series. You won't be sorry. They are excellent! Nice to "see" you here!

Thank you Debbie for the response!!! Just as I suspected, everyone here as so far been so responsive and kind!! I think that I will try the cross train series since it seems to be so popular. I just wonder if any of her new workouts compare to this particular series.

Also, is this series more for toning/firming as opposed to building muscle?

Hi Rose~I would say they are more endurance-based weight work which works better for toning/firming as opposed to muscle building workouts. Also, the cardio is intense so you get some good fat-burning. Not having the new workouts yet, I can't compare but believe me....you will want each & every Cathe there is once you give her a whirl! Let me know when you receive them and have FUN!
