New pack member announcements

Cathlete
Since everyone seems to be adding to their pack, I figured I'd share the newest members of ours. Eddie is a kitten we got a couple months ago and Buster is the puggle I got for my daughter for Christmas. This makes our pack 9....4 cats, 3 dogs, 2 humans....and tons of fun!

He's actually pretty quiet. I didn't hear him bark until maybe the 2nd week he was with us. He's got a beagle bark, but hasn't howled yet. He really only barks when he's trying to get the cats and when he and Cricket are wrestling. Much different personality than the other 2 dogs.

Very cute ! Does anyone have any good dog training site links? My last dog was so very easy to train and my new dog is a pistol. Any good adice is needed.

Cute pets! Let me know what you think of the puggle. Is it a male? We got a male puggle last year for early Christmas, and after 8 months, we just had to find him a better home this fall. I promise that I tried so very much to take care of him, but he just wasn't a good indoor pet for us. I think we are more cat and kid people. He was so cute and loving. But he was a handful always running around like turbo-dog, knocking everything over, chewing up our entire house, toys and shoes, wallpaper, couches, foot of my piano, and peeing everywhere. He did get house trained eventually, but if you would pat him, he would just pee everywhere, even if he just went potty outside. I guess he was just excited. He made people nervous when they saw him b/c he was so super hyper. He howled like a beagle BTW.
WIth my clients coming in and out all day, he just wasn't working out for us and we felt as though someone else who could spend more time with him could give him a better home. We did the right thing for sure, for him.

Well, sorry hijack your thread, but I am curious to see how your puggle reacts to his/her new environment. I think about ours all the time since he has been gone. Good luck! Clarissa

Donna! OMG! You got a puggle! Mine's been around since October 2007. Maximus was very stand-offish w/Penny for the first few months, but now they adore each other. :)

Clarissa, my puggle has cost me approximately $3000 in the last year (furniture, rugs, pillows, the list goes on & on). I don't care though. I love my little girl & no matter what she destroys she's my family & she's here to stay.

Here's a Merry Xmas from Penny & her family. ;)

Yes they are cute and Expensive! It was more about finding him a home with attention - that was something he really needed. With my crazy client schedule, he was not getting much at all. And my kids were actually afraid of him unfortunately, because of his hyperness. Especially my then 3 year old girl. She would hide from him :(

We found him a little 10 year old girl who just fell in love with him. It was more about him and getting him a great home.

Clarissa....your baby sounds like a typical puppy. Most of them are pretty crazy. If you want a mellower dog, you should adopt an adult. Maybe 4 years old or more - you'll be happier. Laura - yours looks like what I expect from Buster. He cracks me up the way he climbs around on things like a cat.

Attention is definitely not a problem in our house. He's only been with us for 3 weeks, but so far he's a breath of fresh air, as far as puppies go. He's very affectionate, but a tiny shy at first, playful but not too destructive - not any more than either of the others were when they were puppies. Duke, in fact, chewed a hole in our sofa cushion, ate the stairs in the kitchen and destroyed more shoes than I can remember, when he was a puppy. He eventually learned what was his and what was ours. Cricket is definitely getting better there too, though I will find teeth marks in my shoes on occasion.

Buster has a multitude of acceptable things to chew. Lots of Nylabones, puppy plush toys, ropes, kittens...oops...did I say that? His favorite thing it seems, though, is my piggy slippers. He pulls them right off my feet - while I'm standing! He hasn't gone after any furniture, so I guess that's a good sign he's not bored.

He is never alone - while we're gone, he and Cricket are gated in the kitchen area. Which is actually 2 decent sized rooms with laminate flooring, so I don't worry about accidents. Housebreaking is usually a challenge when you work outside of the home. I don't want to crate him for the whole day. It took Cricket until she was about 9 months old to be housebroken, and she still has accidents once in awhile. She's 2 1/2 now. I need to give him a break too, because he got a case of diarrhea about 10 days after moving in. I wasn't sure what caused it...could be stress, new food (even though I transitioned), the cat poop he ate, the compressed rawhides, the dog poop he ate... anyway, he made many disgusting messes on my carpet. I eliminated all the possible causes, then gave him some medicine I got from Petsmart and added some butternut squash to his food. His stools were solid again....so hopefully housebreaking can progress now.

Two walks a day (weather permitting) and lots of affection and playtime. I need to throw training in there too, but it's such a buzz kill. I taught him "sit" so far.

Oh...FWIW...I found the BEST stuff at getting poop out of the rug. It's called Kids & Pets. Non-toxic and works great, better than any other thing I've tried.

Congrats on your new members - like Laura - I am the other Puggle owner here. He is 3 years old now. I LOVE my Snoop Dogg - he is incredibly affectionate, cute and just fun. He is a great companion for my Lab. Fortunately he didnt cost me as much as Laura in the destruction - but it did take a while to house break him.

My puggle doesnt have the beagle bark or howl - it is more like the Pug in him. Although it can get annoying when he is barking at the Lab when she steals his rawhide or any toy he wants (well usually his perceived stealing... lol... he is a silly boy)

I hope you get as much enjoyment out of yours as we do ours!!! :)
